Delays, delays, frustration, depression
BBdoodle replied to Sallyawbc's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would be persistant as hell !!! The squeaky wheel gets oiled. I was lucky where my surgeons office had coordinators that handled all your questions, submissions, insurance etc etc. Anytime I called I either got an answer right away or someone got back to me within a couple of hours. It would make me a bit nervous if my surgeons office did not respond to my requests, I would probably go some place else. I need a surgeon that is TOTALLY in tune with their patients !!!! -
I'm 20 months post op and it took me a while to start swallowing whole pills. I started with the tiny pills first and when they were OK I went to the medium pills, etc. etc. No I take very large pills and have no problems what so ever. Everyone is different and can tolerate different things and different times. Start small first....... good luck.

Congrats on your weight loss and to discover just how wonderful we all are keep up the good work and stay focused !! -
I used what my surgeon suggested at first then the taste and smell almost made me puke !!!! I switched around a bit but always purchased a brand that was dense in Protein.

My Time has started - I AM SCARED
BBdoodle replied to spainter2009's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was scared but so ready for surgery. You will do fine, keep a POSITIVE attitude, do what the surgeon tells you to do and you will be OK. Good luck and Happy New Year ! -
I can't do beef anymore and after surgery I really don't do any type of meat well. It is strange because I can't do beef well but when I have corned beef I have no problem !! but steak, chicken, pork etc. all do not sit well with me. I have tried the ground chicken and I can eat that is small amounts but it has to be very moist. I am 20 months post op.

I stalled quite a few times, yes its frustrating but part of the whole process. To get out of my stalls I would switch things up, like try different foods, exercise more or at a higher intensity and that is what got me moving again. What works for me is the exercise thing

I am on loser side now
BBdoodle replied to Bobby Smith's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great....keep on walking it helps you recover faster and will help with the gas !! -
WOW....very scary story. The surgical technology has come a far way since 2007 and there is so much more knowledge and better procedures now where I believe it is way more safer now then it was then. Did they do all the health screenings before you had surgery? I know now you have to be in perfect health before they touch you. I'm glad you are still around to tell your story

Sooo Tired Of Meat
BBdoodle replied to patticake1448's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I happen to love eggs and cottage cheese so I don't have a problem getting my Protein in. However, after surgery I lost my taste for meat !!! Its so strange but I'm not complaining I am just going with the flow. I do drink shakes when I know I am not getting my protein and only use the shakes as a supplement. My taste buds really changed after surgery. Try different recipes there is so much out there to get your protein in. -
good luck !

WOW you look great

Scared! Here's My Story...
BBdoodle replied to nervous&happy's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Something is not right.... either go to a different doctor or go to the ER. If your doctor did not address your bloody bowel movement then he is not a good doctor !!! Find someone else !! Don't wait do it now. -
6 wks after RNY surgery I had my gallbladder removed. I had one really bad attack, I called my surgeon, had a ultrasound and found lots of tiny stones. They were there way before surgery, I wish I would have know about this because I would have had him take out the ol' gallbladder while he was in there doing the RNY. My advise to pre-op people !!! if your insurance pays, get a ultrasound done BEFORE surgery. Or to make the insurance pay...just say you had a really bad attack.

Any help you need the nurses are there for you. The first night you will be in and out of it, have your wife stay home with the kids.

I'm 19 months post op and did not lose any hair until recently I have noticed a bit more in the drain. I was very careful to make sure I took all my supplements etc. and I guess was lucky. Even before surgery I would go thru periods of losing hair so this was nothing new or out of the ordinary. I have had thyroid issues for many years and hair loss is one of the issues. I think at some point it will stop and start to regrow. Maybe take Rogaine ? I was thinking of trying it.

I had my GB removed 10 weeks after my RNY surgery. I had a bad attack one day just as you described it and called my surgeon. I had a ultra sound done and then scheduled surgery. He reopened the same incisions he used for the RNY. I never had any symptoms prior to surgery but there were tons of little stones so it was going on for a while just never knew it. I wish I had the GB checked BEFORE RNY surgery because I would have had him do both at the same time.

Incision/surgery Performed In Gastric Bypass
BBdoodle replied to LindsJ83's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had laparoscopic GB with no complications, I was back to work in one week. The pain was minimal after about 3 days. I am a big baby when it comes to pain. I was on a morphine pump for the first 2.5 days then they took it away and I was OK with it. I moved around a lot, walked and rested when I needed to. I never heard of robotic ?? what is the difference between laparoscopic and robotic? -
Did exercising cause you weight gain?
BBdoodle replied to russianpenny's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I usually run about 20-25 miles a week... you are probably burning anywhere between 400-600 calories per hour so you will have to up your calorie intake. You also could be in a stall and sometimes they last a while. Your body goes into starvation mode if you don't get enough calories. -
let's talk about doubts, pre-ops!
BBdoodle replied to Tizzielish's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was a yo-yo dieter too, up then down, up then down which is rally not good for your system to gain, lose, gain then lose again. I NEVER had any doubts with this surgery.. ever !!! This surgery really does control your eating and keeps your weight down. Not that I don't have to watch what I eat and exercise but its just easier after surgery... you stomach is smaller so you get full way faster. -
A few worries for life after surgery
BBdoodle replied to scretens17's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
#1 is choosing a good surgeon, #2 is to follow their plan to the "t". I am 18 months post op had no complications what so ever. I went to one of the best surgeons in the RNY field. I did not lose my hair, I take my Vitamins daily, my blood work comes out perfect every time I go. Your MIL should see a different surgeon .. if she is still puking after all this time there is something wrong, that is not normal. Is she eating the right foods, staying away from fats and sugars?? Is she chewing her food properly? It sounds like she has stricture and/or a ulcer. Not everyone has issues, and it seems the like people who follow their surgeon's orders have the least amount of problems. -
Men see us (women) differently than we see ourselves !!! We are VERY critical and I know exactly what you are saying because I feel the same about my body !!!.
-
The reason why I chose the RNY is because you lose the most the most weight with RNY. If I was going to have ANY type of surgery I wanted to get the best bang for my buck. I had no complications what so ever and was back to work in 1 week
