When did you start your protein drinks
BBdoodle replied to copmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used my Protein shake as a 10 a.m. snack (64 gram) I could not gulp it..it took about 45 minutes to get the whole thing down. I siped, siped, siped all day and night. At the beginning of each day I would put crystal light or what ever powder flavor i was using into 4 16.9 oz bottles, all I had to do was make sure I drank all 4 bottles by the time i went to bed. My surgeon/nutritionist gave me all written instructions before the surgery and then sent me home from the hospital with more written instructions on exactly what I should be eating/drinking and when.. They game me the 3 day post op instuctions, 1 wk, 2 wk, 3 wk, 4 wk, etc. etc. I would contact your surgeon because each one is different in their post op instructions. -
Good luck with your recovery and get to sippin and walkin

how long until you can travel?
BBdoodle replied to erin0929's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You should be fine but everyone heals in their own time. I was back to work in 1 wk. but I have heard others took a very long time. I wanted to be up and moving ASAP..but that is just me. I feel that the quicker you get moving the better off you are. I would speak to your surgeon but 3 months post op should be OK baring you have no complicaitons. -
I get a UTI every once in a while, I don't think it has anything to do with surgery. Get to the doctor so you can start feeling better

I tried them, I orderd 2 cases on line, watermelon flavor thinking they would be good. They were 42 grams of protein. When I got my delivery I hurried up and opened them real and took a big sip and spit it out !!! OMG was it discusting, I thought something was spoiled so I opened the 2nd case and it had the same discusting taste. I sent them back. Everyone's taste is different, you may want to just try one first to see if you like it. I heard lots of comments about them and most people said they tasted really nasty.

I have that problem too but mine is from a bad fall down cement steps where I landed on my tail bone and fractured it. Now that I am down some weight and no more extra padding on the back side mine too hurts but only on certain seats.

BBdoodle replied to copmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
cheers and keep up with the sip, sip, sip, walk, walk, walk... feel better soon. -
My surgeon required I quit smoking as well... they wanted me to quit 2 wks before surgery and even made me sign a promise form. I signed it but I quit the night before surgery, there was no way in hell I would be able to quit before surgery. I am smoke free for almost 10 months now. I have quit and started for years, the longest I quite for was like 7 yrs. but went back, quit for like 4 yrs, went back, quit again, went back.. I made a promise to myself that if I had surgery to get healthy the smokes had to go too. I feel 1000% better. I do miss it but i can do without it !!! You have to really, really, really want to quit .. its difficult but if you put your mind to it you can do it !!!

LOL...when I first bought my elliptical it kicked my butt. I was use to doing a hour workout on my treadmill, I wanted to add something different so I bought a elliptical. My first workout I was sweating like a pig and it kicked my butt. I can now do a hour on it and get a awesome workout. You will get use to it and be able to go for longer periods of time... keep on challenging yourself to longer periods of time... that's what its all about. Keep up the good work

Random- itchy bumps after rny?
BBdoodle replied to Natasha K's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Its probably from the pain meds... I got itchy too ! -
Niki sweetie.... you are only 4 days post op. what you need to do right now is rest and walk/move around when you can and feel like it just to get rid of the darn gas. My surgery was 9+ months ago and I started running like in August so do push it, let your body heal first. How are you feeling?

I have to admit I am guilty in the fact that I always thought you had to be like 400-500 lbs to be elegible for WLS. When my sister who was 240 got approved and had surgery I went for it a year later. We both have the same insurance, I was worried because I was 214 with a BMI of 36 but I was approved with no pre surgery diet or anything. But you are right, even some of my doctors were like your not "that" big where you need WLS... go figure !!! I do educate as I see fit... some people are not worth waisting your time on if you know what I mean - LOL

Recovery supplement after working out?
BBdoodle replied to speedydvr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like to drink my protein shake (50 grams) after I run. I do a 4 mile run on the threadmill each morning and after I get our of the shower I like to sip my protein shake. This works for me so I get my daily protein in right in the beginning of the day plus it makes me recover faster from running when I sip the protein. Then about two hours later I have a 1/2 of low fat cottage cheese. This works for me ..... you may need more or something different. I would experiment and see what works best for you. -
Sending prayers and {{{{{ hugs }}}}} your way for a speedy recovery

Good luck with surgery

OMG you have done fantastic !! 120 lbs is awesome!! Unfortunately the fat flab is not going to go away unless you have surgery. Skin is not RNY friendly, the younger you are the more likely "some" skin will shrink back but as you get older your skin losses alasticty (sp?) and it will just hang also it depends on how big you were and for how long. Once skin gets streched beyond and you have stretch marks it difficult to get it back without surgery. I am 54 and have been heavy on and off, my arms are flabby and I have a bit of a fat flab of a stomach which will not go away, even if I was 110 lbs that stomach skin would still hand and just be all wrinkley. I wish I had $$$ for a tummy tuck !!!

Decaf coffee or herbal tea are they ok
BBdoodle replied to workingmotherofthree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my first caffeine was about 2-3 months after surgery... I had about a 1/2 cup of ice tea, I have gradualy added caffeine but I don't drink that much of it. I am 9 months post op and can have a glass or two of diet ice tea or a cup of hot tea and have no problems. I would just a little at a time and see how you handle it. My suregon was NO CAFFEINE at first but I asked him at my 3 month post op and he said a little is fine. -
Hunger dorsnt go away?
BBdoodle replied to lisaarellano's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel hunger at times then there are times that I have to remind myself to eat. I think it all has to do with when and what you eat as well. I feel full longer when I eat more dense foods but if I eat soup and a few crackers I feel hungry quicker that eating beans or tuna etc. etc. -
Life after Gastric Bypass surgery. How much does it change?
BBdoodle replied to Aimee's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
The only thing that has changed for me is that when I do go out to eat I can only order a appetizer ( i guess I am a cheap date now). I do cook differently now but there were not much change only in what you eat. I always exercised... I only exercise more and with greater intensity now since I am lighter now. -
I had sugery on a Monday and back to work the following Monday, I would have taken a bit longer but I could not afford to be on disability. I think since I went back to work qicker my recovery time was so much quicker. I worked 1/2 days in the office and 1/2 days at home. I think if you get back to your schedule as quick as possible you recover that much faster. Everyone is different, I had a very easy surgery and transition to a new life style and lots of support.

In laws dinner today
BBdoodle replied to michelecaples's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If they ask if you lost weight say "yes" and thank you. If the press on I would say that you are on a strict diet and exercise and then change the subject ... maybe ask them a personal question - LOL. -
Don't feel bad ladies, I had surgery April 9th and have lost 50 lbs. I thought I would lose much more that what I did !!! My starting weight was 214 (BMI 36) and my goal weight is 140. I had a stall for 2+ months and then went from walking to jogging which I lost another 10 lbs. The weight loss is very slow now. My surgeon says that people that have less than 100 lbs to lose will lose it slowly than people that have 100+ lbs to lose. I do everything exactly as I shoud, I follow all my dr's instructions etc. etc. I guess its just me
