Hair loss - called tellogen effluviam
BBdoodle replied to colorado's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a year post op and I took 6000 mcg of biotin daily, I took 64 grams of protein daily and drank all my water on a daily basis. I never lost any hair. I did what my surgeon told me to do to prevent major hair loss and it worked. -

Hi Vanessa, I'm not a military wife but live alone with two large dogs I was in the hospital for 3 days, my boyfriend stayed at my house and took care of my dogs. He picked me up from the hospital and stayed with me for a couple of days. I must stay that my recovery was amazing. I was back to work in one week, I worked 1/2 day in the office and 1/2 day at home for 1 week then back to full day. I was up and moving around (walking) ASAP, I feel that was what helped me recover quick. I did rest and take it easy but I was very motivated to get back to normal. Do you have any family or friends to stay with you when you get home?

Pre-op testing today!

good luck -
Some people like my self sail right thru surgery and bounce back immediately. Other people run into complicaitons or their recouperation time is longer. Each day gets better and better, take your pain meds as directed because your body does not heal as fast when it is in pain. A pain free body heals much quicker and you will be back on your feet much faster. When you do get up move around and try walking that gets all the kinks out... well at least for me it did. I hope you are feeling better soon

It cold just be water retention, if you are doing exactly what your suregon instructed you to do then you will lose. I have seen sooooo many people say they have stalled then after a week will drop 8-9-10 lbs. You will be fine ... and begin to lose again.. we all do - I promise

Welcome and good luck on your journey. I have never once regretted this surgery, if I knew my insurance paid 100% I would have done this years ago.

I would do exactly what ARMYWife above said.... speak to your supervisor directly so there are no misunderstandings. You want to remain on good terms with your supervisor but you also want to tell her that YOU & YOUR DOCTOR feel that you are not ready to come back to work yet. Your "tentative" return date is 4 wks and you plan on returning then but you will have to get that clearance from your surgeon. Things can get out of hand if someone does not understand like your supervisor....call and clear the air, you will be respected for it. good luck and feel better.

We all have them... last summer I stalled in August, Sept, Oct. and started losing again in Nove. I did not gain but I just simply stalled. I did change up my exercise , I started jogging instead of walking and work out 1 hr. instead of 45 minutes. That got me out of my stall.

BBdoodle replied to LeticiaHuggins's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Is that the best feeling or what.... giving all your plus size clothes away. I to had from size 18 all the way down. There is a thrift store by my house so I have been bringing everything to them. I made $85.00 so far... of course that is going for more size 10-12 clothes You may want to donate to a shelter or find a 2nd hand store. -
Shar-pei Syndrome-AKA SAGGING SKIN!

I believe cycling builds the leg and butt muscles, I still have some extra padding that I would be happy to share My girlfriend has a flat butt ... she wears those fake butt pads -
Its tough the first 3-4 weeks, then you find what works best for you and your taste. I am almost a year out and I am still trying different things but my main goal is to get that protein in no matter what. After time you will find what works best for you.

Great question !! I wish I had this information before I had RNY, my gallbladder had to be removed 2 months post op. My surgeon puts all his patients on a certain med that will not let stones form after RNY. My gallbladder was packed with stones which was obvioulsy there before surgery. If I knew this I would of had a ultrasound and have him remove it all while in there. My advise to everyone is to get a ultrasound of your gallbladder BEFORE surgery. If you need insurance approval just say you had a gallbladder attack, its real bad pain right side and under breast which goes acorss your chest. It feels like a heart attack. The gallbladder surgery was worse then the RNY !!!

The only thing I brought was my cell phone + charger and chap stick. The hospital provides everything else for you, I made sure the clothes I wore into the hospital were soft, elastic waist, lose and comfy. When you leave you are not going to want anything constricting. I also wore slip on sneakers because it hurts to bend over and tie your shoes/sneakers. The surgeon may want you to keep the lovely hospital gown on because it is easier to access you with the gown on. The hopsital also givesyou the no slip socks that you can walk the halls with. They will also provide you with antigas meds if your surgeon OK's it, I felt it was just easier to walk it off. Good luck

Help - not feeling right
BBdoodle replied to music1618's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have my first cold since bypass (4/9/12) I have been taking alka seltzer cold and it has helped with the stuffy nose, headache, congestion. I would call you surgeon and see if they can recommend something for you. I would stop taking any cold meds. I hope you feel better -
I would not do nuts so soon after surgery. You don't want to cause any damage, stick to the soft protein ... maybe peanut butter??
-
Eggs have lots of protein so they are good for you. Different people expierece different things... I would give the eggs a break and then revisit it a few weeks. You body goes thru sooooo many changes after surgery.

. It took me one year to run a mile without stopping. At first I would run 10 steps, then 20, then 30. The park that I work out in marks every 1/4 mile so I set goals and eventually I was able to run the mile without stopping. Of course the weight just melted off me Keep up the good work, don't push too hard it all comes in time and set realalistic goals

Not getting enough Protein
BBdoodle replied to sapperwife26's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
There are plenty of foods that are high in protein but it all depends on what stage of food you are in. I am not fond of the shakes either but they are the easiest way to get my min. 64 grams/daily and not too many calori. es. There are the protein bars you could try, and of course the yogurt, cottage cheese, eggs, beans, nuts, etc. etc. I ALWAYS eat my protein FIRST. If you don't get your protein in you will lose hair and not get the proper nutrition. The protein shots are discusting (in my opinion). You just have to go by trial and error to find what works best for you. -
Day of Surgery stories
BBdoodle replied to crazedteacher's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was at 7 a.m. and of course I was scared, nervous and excited. Everything happed so quick, once I checked into the hospital and before I knew it I was standing on the scale outside of the OR and I walked in, hopped on the OR table, I spoke to the surgeon and the anestheologist (sp?) and he said "sweet dreams". I remember waking up in my room and being in pain, they had me on morphene so I kept on hitting that button. By the next morning (24 hrs) I was up walking laps around the floor that I was on. The more you move around the better you feel. I was discharged on the 3rd day, the muscles hurt in your abdomen when you are trying to sit up from a laying down position or getting up from the toilet but otherwise I was good. I am a very big baby when it comes to pain so I took my meds as directed and I was back to work that following Monday, 7 days after surgery. I worked 1/2 day in the a.m. and when home and worked the rest of the day from home for the first week back and after that I was back 40 hrs wk. The overall expierence for me was fantastic, I had no problems or issue, I followed my surgeon's directions exactly and now I will be 1 yr. post op on April 9th... I would do it again in a second !!!
