Biology & Sciene questions - Medical questions
BBdoodle replied to Cherry's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your surgeon should answer any and ALL of your questions and if he does not then I would switch doctors. A good physician/surgeon would NEVER not answer any questions a patient has. All your questions are good ones... your pouch (stomach) still serves you but its just smaller so you get full quicker. Your stomach should be empty because the night before surgery you take a laxative to empty your whole system out. I think once they start cutting the stomach if there is Fluid they just vacuum or sop it up with gauze pads. The surgeon (I think) cuts with a cautery which cuts and cauterizes at the same time so no chance of bleed out. Once they are done cutting and sewing they inflate your stomach to see if there are any leaks. There are no muscles that are cut during surgery. I hope this helps and PLEASE speak to your surgeon who can better answer your questions. -
My thighs were numb after surgery for about 6 wks. that is from the grounding of the cautery machine. The feeling does come back in due time.

BBdoodle replied to LeticiaHuggins's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It happens to all of use at some point. My stall was 5 months post op, I did not lose for 3 months !!!! I was freaking but then I increased my exercise from walking to running, also started working out 1 hr. instead of 45 minutes and that got me out of my slump. ALSO...... I went down a size in that period so thing were happening just not in the scale department. I just needed to work harder at exercising. You will be OK...stay on your plan, stay focused and all of a sudden you will drop again. -
I'm so sorry you are having all the problems due to RNY Do you regret having surgery? I am 1 yr. post op on the 9th with no complications "yet". I did have my gallbladder removed 10 wks. after RNY surgery, I with I would have know to have my GB checked PRIOR to RNY because I would have had him take it out. My GB was loaded with stones that were there prior to surgery. Other than that I feel fantastic. I work for a organ and tissue transplant foundation and totally with you on education about transplantation

I need to talk to some one
BBdoodle replied to Lovebone89's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I would speak to your surgeon it sounds like you either have a ulcer and/or stricture. My sister could not keep anything down for about 3-4 weeks and she is 2 yrs. post op. All of a sudden she kept on throwing everything up except for soft creamy stuff like soup, yogurt etc. etc. She had a scope last week and she has a ulcer and maybe stricture as well but they are dealing with the ulcer first, once that heals then they are going to deal with the stricture. Please see your doctor..... something is not right !!! -
Think positive thoughts and get out and start walking. ANY exercise will produced endorfins which is a natural high. We all went thru periods of sadness but I was not going to let it get the best of me. When I felt down and sad I just leashed up my dogs and went for a walk Don't keep on saying you hate this feeling because that will only make you feel worse. Just do things that make you happy and don't dwell on being sad, it will pass.

I had to take Prilosec up to 6 months post op as well.

We all go thru it, my surgeons office knew exactly what to do to get approved for my insurance company. And I did exactly as they said, my surgery was submitted on Tuesday and I was approved on Thursday. I had all my ducks in a row and sailed thru it. I was worried that I was not going to get approved because I had 80 lbs to lose and my BMI was 35.

I did not have one.

You can just use a regular blender as well. When I was on my puree portion of my post op diet, I just ate cottage cheese, yogurt, mashed potato, mashed sweet potato, mashed beans, etc. etc. So I really did not even have to puree anything. I also heard people eating baby food.

I'm overwhelmed by their response

I only told my VERY close work friends and they were 110% supportive. The rest of the work population when they ask "did you lose weight - you look great" I say thanks and they ask how, I say diet and exercise. I just feel my personal medical choices are really no ones business and the people I do chose to tell are very close to me and respect my decisions etc. -
What vitamins do you take?
BBdoodle replied to Kurstin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take quite a few... calcium citrate, b-12, biotin, multiple, dHEA, iron, b-complex. -
As some said on here a few weeks back... nothing tastes as good as skinny feels !!!! and that is so darn true

I did not have a "evaluation" it was just a nutritional class, one on one with a nutritionist. I told her what I ate and how much, how often. They really want to get a good idea on much you know or don't know about porition control, healthy eating, what foods are good and what foods are bad. They want to make sure you have a good handle on the fact that you have to work with the surgery buy eating normal poritions of good fresh healthy foods. At least that is what my 1 1/2 hour nutrition "class" was like. Good luck you will do fine.

I love my wine and had a very small glass about 3 months post op. I love to have a glass of wine with dinner and do most nights. I have also had a couple of screwdrivers when out, the alcohol effects me no different from pre op to post op, the only thing that is different is the slight buzz does not last as long. Pre surgery I drank 6-7 diet pepsi's a day, after surgery I stopped cold turkey. About 3-4 wks post op I was putting those flavor packets of lipton diet teas and have been using them ever since. I don't think they have much caffene in them at all. i do have a few sips of diet soda every once in a while but it all tastes like chemicals to me.

Everyone is different... you might have head hungry instead of general hunger pains. Please stick to your food portions that your surgeon recommends. I will be a year post op on April 9th, I still can only eat small amounts, at first food was discusting to me and as I healed I felt better and at only what my surgeon's directons said. You don't want to push it so early on and believe me when you have ate too much you will feel it for sure !!!!!!
-
I was told by my surgeon that you will lost 60-85 % of your weight thru RNY, the sleeve and band and much less. I figured if I was going to have surgery I want the best bang for my buck. Its the best thing I ever did !!! No regrets here !

For some strange reason I never had a problem getting my minimum required 64 oz. of water daily. I would fill (4) 16.90 oz of water with my crystal light each day, I would sip, sip, sip, sip all day and night. By the time I went to bed I had to have all of them finished. I am a year out and still cant chug water or any fluid but I can take bigger sips now. Just sip all day long.. you will get your fluids in.
