9 Days Post Op, question on Exercise
BBdoodle replied to cathyh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Start out light and if something does not feel right stop. I was cleared for exercise 4 wks. post op. Look on line there are tons of arm exercises you can do. I always lifted with dumb bell weights, but since I have a bad neck I switched to the band and they work great on resistance. -
My weight loss haulted at five months with RNY. CONFUSED
BBdoodle replied to Breakingtheshell's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had a stall at 5 months post op that lasted for 3 months. I did everything by the book as well. The key to success with RNY is the diet and exercise. I would ask your back surgeon what type of exercise you can do. As Mamiof3kids said above, there are many types of exercise that you can do sitting down and not involving you back. You have lost a great deal of weight and be very proud of that !!!! Stalls happen you just need to change things up a bit. To break my stall I started jogging/running rather than walking and I creased my exercise time from 45 minutes to 60-75 minutes daily. Once I started losing again I never lost the 3-4 lbs. a week I did when I first had surgery I think those days are gone for good. I stick to my meal plan and keep active and exercise daily and bring my heart rate up for minimum 1 hr. Please speak to your back surgeon, I am sure he can help and as far as your RNY doctor I would say " please don't walk out you have not answered my questions". Try not to cry and get upset, remain calm and keep your composure and be very frank with him and don't let him leave until he answers your questions. -
Yes but it taste like all chemicals now. My taste buds totally changed after surgery. I have a few sips of soda every now and then but NOTHING like I use to drink.

My surgeon told me that when you get to the point of getting 64 grams of protein a day from food then you don't have to do the shakes. The shakes are just a "helper" until you can eat regular food. The margarita question... hmmmm.... I had my first wine about 3 months out. Be careful because alcohol is empty calories and they can add up mighty quick. Also when you try your first drink make sure you are home, some people get drunk really quick some don't. I would also ask these two questions to your surgeon as well.

With weight training when you gain muscle mass ... muscle is heavier than fat. When you start to firm up and get your muscles toned you may gain. This happened to me BUT at the same time I went down a size !!! The fat is melting off but your muscles are getting in shape and that is a good thing. If you stick to your exercise, eat the good stuff, watch your portion sizes you will do fine. What works for me is doing cardio and a couple of days a week I do strength. Having a well diversified work out schedule where you are constantly challenging your muscles is the best.

what is the name of the flavoring - sounds delish!

Don't get discouraged, I stalled 5 months post op for 3 months. I too am a scale-a-holic, just stick to your plan with diet and exercise and it WILL come off. We all lose in different ways and time... hang in there it will move !

You are young so at 33 you will get some "snap" back (LOL). Plus your skin has not been stretched that far where no matter how young you are it will not get its "snap" back. I'm 54 so my skin on my arms are are "flappin" a bit. I can't afford surgery either, I just have to deal with it Its nice that your hubby is helping you being sore is a good thing = no pain no gain

Take the time to rest and heal, walking and moving around helps with the gas.

Sounds great.... its nice when you find something that is low calorie/fat and has high protein enjoy !

I use to guzzle diet pepsi before surgery, I drank like 6-7 diet pepsi's a day. After surgery it was a BIG change for me but I did it. I am 1 yr post op and I started drinking normally about 7-8 monts post op. My surgeon required 64 oz. of water daily, I had no problem getting that in as long as is sip, sip, sip, sip,sip all day & evening. I ate lots of ice pops too and still do You will do ok further down the road, just sip consantly and you will get your water in.

7 wks post op and 30 lbs... you are doing GREAT !!! I am 1 year post op and only have lost 53 lbs total. Pre surgery weight was 216... I think the people that have less than 100 lbs to lose lose at a slower rate. You will have stalls... we all do. To address the weight lifting thing and not losing, you have only be lifting a week and there is no way that weight lifting can affect anything in that short period of time. When you do lift, your muscle gets toned, muscle has nothing to do with your skin, they are two completely different things. I think what your husband means is that if you lift weights your muscles will get bigger and your skin will not sag. In women our muscles will NEVER get as big as mens unless you are taking inhancement drugs. Unfortunately the only thing to fix sagging skin is surgery. Don't believe all those gimmics out there. Or if you are young your skin "might" shrink back. Keep up the great work, continue to weight train it has nothing to do with your stall.

How long Did it take to lose the weight?
BBdoodle replied to RTonyanJr's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are doing great, everyone loses the weight in their own time, some people really fast and others not so fast. -
Try a protein bar.... they fill me up !
-
After a while you will be able to eat regular food just in a healthy version and portion control. I am a year out and eat regular food now but I know my limits.
-
Yeah.... good luck

is it safe to take Diet supplements after Gastric bypass?
BBdoodle replied to changingme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would check with your surgeon before you do anything. Every time I go for a check-up I have to list all supplements, pills, meds I am taking. -
Any vegetarians out there?
BBdoodle replied to shawna29's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was a big meat eater before surgery, after surgery I have no interest in meat what so ever. I also don't process meat very well after surgery, so I just stick to beans, cheese, nuts, cottage cheese, yogurt, pizza (in moderation), eggs, veggie burgers, salmon or any kind of fish. There are tons of stuff out there for vegetarians - just be creative. I also drink my protein shake as well. -
Good luck !!!

Holy crap! I am approved!
BBdoodle replied to mishab's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Cheers ! -
My surgeon said chew 30 times. When I was first out of the hospital and started on semi-soft food I would forget to chew the 30 times and I would swallow and I knew that I would be getting sick and boy did I get sick quite a few times.... I learned real quick to chew, chew, chew and chew some more !!!

Whats everyone getting for protein?
BBdoodle replied to pookybear's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm supposed to get 64 grams of protein daily whether it be from food or shake. I am one year post op, I try to get the majority from food (cottage cheese, yogurt, nuts, etc. etc). There are days I know I don't get close but I do try like hell. I don't want to lose hair so I give it my best shot. -
Protein That Taste Good!
BBdoodle replied to Tcisme's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Protein shakes in general are gross, I have found that the Isopure Dutch Chocolate is tolerable, just my opinion. -
Surgery is May 6th.

Good luck and being nervous is a normal thing, before you know it you will be waking up and it will all be done!
