Backed out of surgery... twice :(
BBdoodle replied to indianarny765's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Please do not let outside people influence you... ITS YOUR DECISION and no one else !!! You owe your co-workers no explanation what so ever, ever hear of HIPA ? All you have to do is say your are out on medical leave if they ask for what or why I would say "why do you ask"?? or just change the subject. Your medical decisions are YOUR decisions, if YOU want surgery then go for it and please do not let other influence you. Surgery is NOT the easy way out, its a tool just like Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, a exercise bike etc. etc. and having MAJOR surgery is NOT the easy way out it is the most difficult !!! Its nice to have support and I was lucky that I only told a few people (family & close freinds) and I had 110% support from everyone. My co-workers that I told (3) are very good friends. Please listen to your own feelings and go with your gut decision. -
I had a 3 month stall when I was 5 months post op, I freaked as well and rightfully so !!! I got out of my stall by increasing the length of my workouts from 45 minutes to an hour and I went from walking to jogging.
-
I bought a expensive top before surgery and my goal was to fit into it by the end of the summer (last year) and I did !!! I think rewarding your self is such a good thing that keeps you on track and its nice to set goals for yourself. Good luck

My Mom had "drop foot" but that was from a botched surgery in her leg. She had to wear a special prosthetic so she could walk normal. Is yours permanent?

I too did not like food right after surgery, I had to set a alarm to remind myself to eat. That will pass... I love your craving Limes and hot sauce:) I probably would not use either one of them at this point but further down the road I'm sure you can. Lots of strange feelings, cravings etc. happen after surgery. I stuck to what my surgeon wanted me to eat and I got thru it. I got ALL my protein and water in daily that was my main goal until I was on regular food. Talk to your surgeon or nutritionist.

Are yellow lentils ok
BBdoodle replied to The long walk home's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You "should" be OK, everyone tolerates different things at different points in their recovery. At 3 wks out I was on very soft foods. -
I workout in the early a.m. before I go to work, its in the basement on my incline/treadmill. I usually don't eat anything before I work out but I do have a Protein shake after, that helps me recover quick. If I don't do a shake I will have a protein based Breakfast = cottage cheese, eggs, cheese etc. etc. When I use to run outside when the weather was really hot I would get light headed and my heart would pound like crazy in my chest. I never liked running in 80+ degree weather I do LOVE to run when its like 20 or 30 degrees. You may have pushed yourself too hard and probably got a bit dehydrated.

I take 2 melatoin (10mg) each at 8 pm and then I take another 2 at 11 pm and at that point I can sleep until about 3 or 4 am. and I'm ok with that. I also sleep like a baby at night if I do yoga when I get home from work, its the most relaxing thing for me so I try to do yoga daily. -
After a few months you will get back into a normal routine... everything evens itself out. Right after surgery I would cook for my BF all the normal foods he wanted, I had no desire to eat or even taste what I was cooking. Actually food repulsed me, that helped as well. When we sat down to eat I would eat what I had to eat and I served him his food. He was very supportive as well, he said the he would eat before he came over etc. but I told him I wanted to cook and that I could not run away from food my whole life. Once all the dust settles and everyone in your family gets back to normal you will be fine !!!! Good luck and I hope you have have speedy recovery.

All my friends and family who knew I was having surgery were 110% supportive. Two of my dear friends are overweight and I don't push healthy eating and exercise on them, they are adults and know how to make the right choices. I will love them no matter what size. My skinny friends were cheering me on as I lost and gave me 110% support. So I can say I am VERY lucky with the family and friends in that department. I think people do get jealous when you lose and will only have negative things to say just because the are jealous... I don't play into people like that and don't even get on the subject. Don't let people bring you down.. YOU are in control of that.

Junk food cravings and getting off track
BBdoodle replied to music1618's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 13 months post op and have cravings as well. When my sweet tooth acts up I feed it, I don't deprive myself but I do limit what I eat. I do not dump on sugar either so if I want chocolate I have it !!!! I buy a candy bar or some Resses or M&Ms .. of course they are the single serving size, I don't buy the 1 lb. bag or anything -LOL If I was two bars I eat them ... BUT... the next day I stay on my treadmill long enough to work off those calories I ate PLUS my regular work out !!! Its a pay off and that works for me. When I have a craving I feed it, I don't deny it because that only leads to overeating again for me. This little system works for me AND portion control !!!! BTW I love your picture with the puppy, I'm a HUGE animal lover -
Good luck and wishes for a speedy recovery !!!

BBdoodle replied to BBdoodle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Stricture + Ulcer has anyone had both at the same time?
BBdoodle posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My sister is 2 yrs. post op, has a VERY stressful home life. A few months ago she started with throwing up a few times a week, then it progressed to every other day, then to daily. She got scoped and the doctor found a ulcer and said the ulcer caused the stricture. She had to get the ulcer healed before he cleared up the stricture. If my sister weight 110 soaking we that is alot, she lives on Ensure because she cannot keep any food down. Has anyone here had both at the same time. I think she is suffering too much but she will not go to another doctor -
Help! Pain in my rightside abdominal area!
BBdoodle replied to Obeasta's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Could be gas too !!! In the day those pains would happen upon exertion were called "a stitch in my side". Well at least here in NJ I would call your surgeon !!! Feel better ! -
For some reason salads scared me... my concentration was getting my protein in FIRST. My surgeon was big on protein first. I tried salad about 4-5 months post op and it did not go down very well. I also loved my salads and now I'm just not into them, my taste buds have changed BIG TIME !!!

Stricture + Ulcer has anyone had both at the same time?
BBdoodle replied to BBdoodle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks Kristy.... who would of ever thought that 2 yrs. post op you would get a stricture and ulcer !!! From what her doctor is saying the ulcer caused the stricture and that is common in RNY patients. How a ulcer causes a stricture I have no idea... because stricture is the scar tissue. -
I drove to my surgeons office which is about 45 minutes away with no problem.

Is lap band a stepping stone to RNY?
BBdoodle replied to cfranklin526's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will have to discuss with your surgeon what is best for you medically. What made my decisions for me becauce I was cleared for all there it was just a matter of what one... the RNY surgery you will lose the most weight from, the second is the sleeve and third is the lap band. I felt if I was going under the knife I wanted the best bang for my buck. -
Mine was in my right hand and it was uncomfortable as hell too !!!
-
LOL you are so right Wait until winter....without that layer of fat you will be much colder !!! I even noticed when sitting on hard surfaces my butt bones hurt !

I wanna scream!
BBdoodle replied to Hereiamonmyown's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just remember.... "Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels" on this site wrote that and it is sooooo true. I know its difficult but be strong. If something is bothering you and someone is eating/drinking something you want...go for a walk or just try not to put yourself in that situation at this point. You will have to face all of this sooner or later anyway when you are able to eat normal food and your will power has to be really strong then. When I get weak, I just say to my self "you did not go thur that surgery for nothing" and that kind of helps me get past any hurdles.
