Numbness please help!
BBdoodle replied to Big Wojo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes I have... what my surgeon told me was they use the cautery machine which has to be grounded so they ground it to your leg. The cautery is used to cut and cauterize during surgery. My right thigh was numb from my hip to my knee for about 3-4 weeks. I also had nerve damage from having hernia surgery a small area in my groin is totally numb from being grounded and that was like 7 years ago !!! I am sure some physical therapy will help you regain the use of your leg faster, please check with him. -
Poor communication between family physician, surgeon and me!
BBdoodle replied to jetson's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know exactly what you are going thru !!! My general physician was totally on board with writing the letter it was like pulling teeth getting it from the staff !!!!! I even made a appointment to see him with letter in had where he could just sign. He wanted to put it in his words, etc. etc. after MANY calls they finally did it !!! Good luck ! -
Great Day today
BBdoodle replied to socialbutterfly's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was a diet pepsi addict .... I drank about 6-7 cans a day and that was the only thing I drank, no coffee, no tea just DP!! After surgery I did not crave it only once in a while. About 6 months post op I took a sip and OMG it tasted like drinking chemicals = yuck !!! After a while you will get use to not drinking so much, at least I did. I have a diet soda every once in a while, maybe about a 1/2 can. -
I have stalled several times, I change up my work outs by either increasing the time and/or intensity. When we exercise its good to keep on challenging your body because you get use to doing the same thing and you won't burn as many calories as when you first did. I also wear a heart rate monitor so I can keep my heart rate in the fat burning zone throughout my work out.

Congrats and good luck !

I always thought GBS was forever~
BBdoodle replied to vicki s's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Its up to YOU to keep it off for ever by portion control, exercise and healthy food choices. The "window" that you refer to is the period after surgery when you lose the most amount of weight...after that its maintenance. If you fall back into old eating habits you can regain !!! -
You are looking FANTASTIC

Nervous Nellie! Surgery on july 23
BBdoodle replied to mitzie46's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will be just fine.... I have had many surgeries in my life time and lived to tell about each one. Its totally normal to be nervous, when they are preping your for surgery ask them for Demarol or something to calm you down. -
Need help and pointers please!
BBdoodle replied to Big Wojo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My right thigh was tingly and numb after surgery... I asked my surgeon about this and he said that they have to ground the cautery (the instrument that cuts thru the skin etc.) and some people get numb. It went away in about 3 weeks. When I had hernia surgery a few years back I had the same thing happen but my right side groin area is still numb which was due to nerve damage. I signed a consent form saying that the type of hernia surgery I had there would be a chance of nerve damage. What helped me with the gas was walking and the more I walked the better I felt. I hope you feel better soon !!! -
Screw this hair shedding- Saying bye bye to 10+ inches
BBdoodle replied to LeticiaHuggins's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Are you taking Biotin? I have very thin hair and was soooo worried about losing hair, I do not miss a day of taking my biotin. I am 15 months post op and have not lost any hair !!! I am very lucky !! -
When I am in a stall I switch up what I am eating, maybe replace a meal with a protein shake, and increase my exercise for sure. You may want to exercise longer or with more intensity. When you exercise are you increasing your heart rate enough to get into the fat burning zone??

What to do when you hit a stall?
BBdoodle replied to katieannes's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I hit a few stalls along the way plus being a very slow loser, I mix my exercise up and increased the intensity and duration of my workouts and that got me out of my stall. -
Awesome job ... keep up the good work
