I was not allowed to shower at the hospital. I stayed in hospital gowns until discharge. Mostly I slept and walked, I didn't touch the books I brought. They told me to wear comfortable clothes to the hospital so I could wear them home. They gave me everything I needed including all the pillows and blankets I wanted. Pack light. When you guys are eating something, how long does it take for you to get sick if it does not agree with you? I am starting to try new things and I am afraid if the first time I find something that my pouch objects to. Sent from my VS920 4G using RNYTalk -

Introducing New Foods To The Pouch.

Thank you all! I have been taking a bite, making sure to chew the heck out of it and then waiting about five min to have any more just in case. So far so good. I have about 4 more weeks before I go back to work and I am hoping to have a good sense of what won't make me sick before then. Sent from my VS920 4G using RNYTalk -

Call your doctor right away, better to have them verify it is not infected than to let it sit and get worse. Sent from my VS920 4G using RNYTalk

Get up and walk after surgery, even just a few steps at first. It truly helps the pain along with the pain meds. Best wishes!! Sent from my VS920 4G using RNYTalk

I'm 30, will be 31 in October. Had my surgery 6/5/12 and down 24lbs so far. Already feeling better, sleeping better, can't wait for my energy to come back so I can squeeze in some summer fun with my 8 year old before I have to go back to work. Sent from my VS920 4G using RNYTalk -

I'm going to try and bump it up a little at a time and see how I do. I never felt thirsty prior to surgery so this is very new for me. Sent from my VS920 4G using RNYTalk

How much liquid are you able to drink at one time? I am there with you, always feeling thirsty, but I am scared to drink too much at once and get sick. I wake up in the morning feeling like I slept with a towel in my mouth. So gross. Sent from my VS920 4G using RNYTalk

I had percocet pills as well. My Dr. said pills are fine, I can take them one at a time if needed. They started giving me Vitamins and pain pills on the day after surgery. Sent from my VS920 4G using RNYTalk

I'm on day 7. No pain (I think mine hit me all at once in the hospital. Diloted, Percocet and Zofran only took the edge off the pain and nausea the first 2 days) I felt great Friday and yesterday, but today I think I am heading towards dehydration and 15 grams of protein and 100 Cal was all I could get in yesterday. So far water is the hardest thing to swallow, and I love water. How are you guys keeping hydrated?

Does the cold from the popsicle cause any discomfort? My surgeon said room temp or warm but no cold as it can cause pain under the breast bone.

Salt, not sally. Silly auto correct.

I was on clear liquids (stage one) while in the hospital. When my doctor came in to check on me and discuss discharge From the hospital he said I could start stage two the next day. Nothing I have to chew, nothing colder than room temp (no popsicles, ice or straws at all). Apple sauce, broths, creamed or purred soups, pureed fruits and veggies, cream of wheat or rice cereal, sugar free pudding and jello. I can have a tiny bit of sally and mild seasoning according to tolerance. Appears there is no standard protocol for what you can have, it depends on the surgeon, which doesn't help us much when we talk together. I didn't have to be on liquids for Weeks before my surgery either, only the day before.

I am also 4 days post op. Spent two nights in the hospital due to bouts of bad pain, mostly in my back. I started walking as soon as they put me in my room because it somewhat relieved the back pain. I hardly ate or drank anything in the hospital, but I brought home the protein drinks they gave me. They are juice vs. milk based, no sugar and not grainy. I was told not to have ANYTHING cold as this can cause pain in the stomach and chest. These drinks are easy, add water to the top of the lable and shake. Brand is Healthwise and I did some searching, you can find them on Amazon. The MuscleMilk is hard to swallow room temp for me. I also had some instant mashed potatoes last night, about an 8th of a cup over a 20 min span. I think it helped give my stomach something to work on besides its self, I noticed the discomfort easing up a little after that. Taking a shower and walking outside for a couple min was nice,I get cabin fever very quickly. I hope you start feeling better soon!
