The pain for me was not that bad, but I have a hight tolerance for pain. I would suggest moving as much as possible after surgery. The more you lay around the more sore you will be, at least that is the way it is for me. As for being stuck, I have felt that a few times, but have never had to pb. It is very uncomfortable, but has passed in a few minutes. It usually happens because I eat to fast or did not chew well. Good luck on your journey.

Cigna was my primary and covered 100% of my surgery minus copays. Good luck.

RM, you are so right. We have to take it one day at a time and not get to down when we do make a not so good choice.

Mushie/ Puree Stage Recipes???
Emilie1 replied to AudsMom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My absolute favorite was my mushie lasagna. I took spagetti sauce, cottage cheese, parmasan cheese, and shredded motzerella and put it all in my Magic bullet, I also added a few noodles, but it did not add anything to the flavor and would skip that part next time. -
My Doctor was pretty strict also. I was not allowed to have any protein for the first ten days after surgery. I thought that I would die, but survived to tell about it. I did get very creative with my clear broth. Good luck, this too shall pass.

If all else fails change the amount of calories you take in. I believe that I saw somewhere that if you up the calories it will get your metabolisim moving faster. The band is working also for me and I am hitting more plateaus, but my weight loss is less between plateaus about 3 to 5 lbs and I will stay there for about two weeks before I start to move. I also do not exercise as much as you do. Good luck.

Stomach virus or something's wrong with my band
Emilie1 replied to rathsog's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry you are feeling bad, I had a bug about a month ago and got dehydrated real quick. I think it was harder recovering from dehydration than the bug, so make sure that you get plenty to drink. -
I have not posted for awhile, but seem to need some input from ya'll experienced banders. I went for my second fill about two weeks ago and have gained weight since not lost. I had been loosing nice and slow since my surgery 10/13/08, but after my fill I have gained about 3lbs. I had a conversation with the NP that filled me about not snacking, and tried that but ended up eating like way to much for dinner for about a week because I was so hungry. I guess my question is about the whole not snacking thing. I don't snack in the morning, but am going to go back to it in the afternoon to keep from eating so much at dinner. Let me know what ya'll think. Thanks.

Straws are not a problem for me either. As a matter of fact I had not even thought about the staw thing until just now. I think you will be able to figure out quick if it is going to affect you or not. Good luck.

What reactions have you had since surgery?
Emilie1 replied to thinkingslim70's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I saw this thread out here earlier today and passed it up, but a little while later I was outside and a neighbor I don't know well and don't see often commented that I look like a totally new person. He asked me how I did it and I did not share about my surgery. Sometimes I do share others times I don't share. I also know when I start talking about it I go over board on how we should eat, small portions, small bites, eat slow, chew, chew, chew. -
I am always cold also. I think it has something to do with the weight loss. Everyone I talk to about it says it is because I am smaller. Well I am not that small and I still have a nice(ha, ha) layer of coushion so I should not be that affected by a little cool weather. I hope it will be better next winter, and thank goodness we don't live up north. I may never come out of my bed.

8ish lbs to go.....I won't be 100land until my scale reads less than 200 alll the time. My scale will fluctuate 2 or 3 lbs for a couple of weeks then I will go down 2 - 4 lbs. I can't wait for it to fluctuate under 200.

two very important questions
Emilie1 replied to trish6087's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am not sure about the IUD....as far as your son goes I would be as honest with him as you can. You know your child better than anyone and will know what he needs to know and how much he can handle knowing. I have three children. My 11yr old son knew just about everything about the surgery, my 9yr old is a worrier so he knew about it, but not about the risks. My 4yr old just knew that I could not roughhouse for a while and had to eat special for a few weeks. I was more worried about her because she was so concerned about what I could eat and couldn't eat. To my 11yr old I talked about the risks, but down played them. On thing that may help your son is talking to him about the things that you will be able to do when you start to loose weight. We are planning to hike the Grand Canyon. Good luck with everything. -
I had it too, and it scared the poo out of me because I was not expecting it. I was ready for gas, and pain at the incession, but this was something different. I asked the surgeon about it and he said it was something about being paralyzed on the table and the operating table not giving at all. Good luck and hope it passes soon.

I agree with the last guy if you even think that it might be something besides gas. For my gas pain I would get on all fours and support myself with a bunch of pillows so not to put pressure on my incisions. I rock back and fourth and the movement seem to help relieve the gas. Good luck and keep us posted.

I am like Rachel except I don't weigh my food. I am not real fond of the pasta and rices that are frozen so skipping them is not a problem. One of my favorite frozen meals to eat is the salbury steak. Good luck and keep up the good work.

Trish, every insurance company is different. There are a bunch of test that you have to have to get surgery. My insurance company paid for all of those test before approving me for surgery. It took me three months from start to finish, I was an exception because I did not have to have a six month Dr. supervised diet. That is what takes the longest. If you have been visiting the dr. regularly you might be able to count some of those visits towards your six months. The one suggestion I have is to be your own best advocate with your insurance. Find out exactly what their requirements are and start working on them on your own. Every time your Dr. send something to insurance call to make sure it was what they needed. Good luck, I hope some of what I have shared helps. It is worth the wait.

Lap-band surgery vs c-section
Emilie1 replied to catho72's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have also had three c sections. Except for the first my c sections were easy. The lapband was not painful except for the gas. I would disagree with the plan to sleep, if you lay down to much the gas will be worse. I had to keep reminding myself that the pain I did feel was mostly from gas and no amount of pain med would fix that. Good luck. -
I had a hard time on mushies also. I could not limit myself to refried beans, cottage cheese, and yougurt. I started blending up everything I cooked for my family. Spaggetti was the best. I would blend the sauce, heat it up and put it over cottage cheese. It was like a noodleless lasagna. You can do the same thing with taco meat and refried beans. I would add a little avacado for the good fat. You also may want to eat a little more, maybe a cup instead of half a cup. I know I have read on LBT that if you are not getting enough calories you can also slow down your weight loss. Give it time and this to will pass, just wait for your first fill. Good luck.

My Dr. office offered those vitamens and I passed on them. I went with Centrum silver instead just because they are chewable. They are about $11 for 60, I still have to take a calcium supplement, iron and B12. However, at my Dr office they said that I would have to take all of those supplements if I was using their bariatric vitamens. I just had my follow up yesterday and all of my levels were great so my the Centrum silver must be working. Good luck with yours.

Starting the holiday detox early, anyone wanna join me?
Emilie1 replied to Boo Boo Kitty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am going for my first fill today, I was banded on Oct 13th. I missed my first appt for fill so today is the day. It is perfect timing for the pouch test as I will have to be on liquids anyway. I have not gained any weight, but also have not lost any any a couple of weeks. I feel like I have been eating like a cow and am sure the lbs are going to eventually show up. I like this idea to finish the year and may try to make it a tradition. Good luck to everyone. -
I was banded on Oct. 13th. I was scheduled for a fill on Dec. 4th, but was unable to get my labs done in time so I postponed it until after Christmas. My question is do I need a fill? I can eat just about what ever I want. I do get a uncomfortable full feeling if I try to eat to much and or eat to fast. I have lost about 22lbs since surgery, that includes the ten I lost right after on the all liquid diet. My debate is should I get a fill and eat less and loose faster or continue the way I am an loose at a slower rate. The only problem I have now is that I am afraid that if I don't get a fill I will gradually eat more and more until I am back were I started.
-
I remember feeling the same way. I was banded on Oct. 13th. Right after I felt really good. Then with in like 24hours I started to feel like I was getting sick or something. I kept a close eye on my temp to make sure there was no infection. I did run a low grade temp for about 48 hours but it never went over 100. All I can say is don't stay at home and in bed no matter how bad you feel. Getting out will help the gas/shoulder pain. Try to find someone to drive you just to be on the safe side, but do get out and do something. You will start to feel better before you know it. Good luck........

I came up with all kinds of creative mushies. I took spaghetti sauce and blended it and then added it to cottage cheese. It was really good. I also blended up all kinds of tender veggies. Cauliflower is my favorite. I would prefer mashed cauliflower than mashed potatos any day. You can mush just about anything up.....good luck.
