Why Do I Still Feel Fat?
judid replied to TinyMamiOf3kids's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't believe it when people say you will never be what you are hoping for. Even a therapist! You are always much more than others speak over you!! Have faith that you will arrive at where you need to be skinny or not because you've come so far you are amazing. -
Try anything as early as possible.

I really have tried almost every thickening, body building product on the market and the best I have ever found is nioxin products. You can often find at discount at Marshals. They come in very large sizes and last for a long time if you are careful and Water down some. They are pretty expensive and if you are friends with a hairstylist they may buy ffor you with some discount.

I am using nioxin shampoo and conditioner. Have always had thin hair so have been using for several years. Also been taking biotin since 2 months before surgery, and using minoxidil (women's rogain) every morning and night. Today is my four month anniversary and so far no hair loss. I know it is still possible so i continue taking all supplements. Hopefully I will be the rare exception. If not i am alsohoping to accept whatever happens knowing it will growback. I bought a small hair piece just in case.

6Wks Out, Gained 1.4Lbs
judid replied to jadeharper's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My MD and nutritionist have told me to stay beteen 600-700 calories. I am 4 months out and lose about 2 ibs a week. Be very careful not only to watch salt/ carbs sticking to Protein first. My nutritionists has said repeatedly that many women find maintainence at 1200 calories and stop losing at that calorie load. Seems unfair to me as I lost weight before at 1200 calories and now seem to be slowly losing at 600-700 calories, but I am losing however slowly. Men can always eat more calories, bummer to that!! I'm sure you will get back to losing with some adjustments, but I know how discouraging thiscan be we are all here to encourage you. You are not alone!! -

Craving Junk Food..any Advice Would Help Me.
judid replied to jgarcia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Another good thing to do with these crackers is to make a little tuna or cannedchicken as a protein snack and they will add a nice salty crunch that satisfies the craving longer. -
I have to say my tastebuds have not really changed. Occasionally something will taste wonderful and because I am eating it in a smaller amount such as fish, i will savor it very much. Unfortunatly that includes carbs--no problem with small amounts of sugar. But I am choosing to avoid as I do not feel well afterwards. I can really tell they do our body harm as I feel awful even after a small amount.

Friday Weigh-In!
judid replied to KevinsBabyGirl85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you able to do some extended walking? Maybe in the evenings or early morning? That won't cost anything and walking fast and long can really burn those calories. Maybe at a mall? -
Friday Weigh-In!
judid replied to KevinsBabyGirl85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In a stall myself, it really is true the less you weigh the slower it goes. Still hovering around onederland but not entering in. Just watched a program about a study by the NIH (National Institute of Health). They followed a number of people who lost and maintained a significant weight loss. What they discovered is very interesting. If you diet down to a lower weight let's say 150 lbs, normally on all the charts it will take a certain amount of calories to maintain that weight. That is true for anyone who has been at that weight but has never been overweight, if you diet to that weight you will have to eat 20% less calories to maintain the weight forever. So two women at 150 one can eat 2000 calories to stay at the weight if she has never been overweight but if she dieted to that weight she can only eat 1600 calories to maintain it forever. Doesn't that expain why weight can really creep up when we think we are not eating very much! They have not yet figured out why. I discussed with my nutritionist and she said she had just received some training that backed this up and that all nutritionists do not know this. Has really helped me to be much mre vigilant with my eating. Even though I am no where near my goal yet I am keeping this in my mind for future so I will not be disappointed and frustrated. Life isn't always fair is it? -
Silly government control freaks think by banning large sodas they will change human nature. People who believe we are all sheep who need to be herded. If only obesity could be solved by banning certain foods or food sizes??? What about those of us who've been obese since childhood and way before super sized drinks?? This is an over simplified response to a complicated problem.

Week 5.... No Weight Loss
judid replied to mtbarry5's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Stalls are very common I've had several- now at 3 months. Sometimes just moving more or drinking more water and protein helps. But mostly at 600-800 calories it is just necessary for your body to make adjustments. I steadily lose around 1-2 poundsweekly on average which seemsreally slow to me but really in a year that is over 100 pounds. The messages of the past, "will this work for me?" "am i doomed to be the only one this doesn't work for?" need to be ignored because you will make it and lose all the weight if you stick to the program, at your body's unique rate stalls and all. Don' compare yourself to others everyone is unique. You will begin losing again, you are not a machine you are living, wonderful creation, give yourself grace enough to walk your own path!! -

If you eat dark, leafy greens and other vegetables you are getting valuable nutrition not empty calories. You are also eating Fiber which will help the digestive process when your digestion is ready and healed. Head lettuce is empty calories and just filler you need dark green, red and other vegetables for a healthy diet. Obviosly when you are early in this process you want to eat protein first and foremost and add those vegetables as you are able to tolerate per your MD instructions. But they are part of a long term healthy diet and we all benefit from the nutrition maybe not just early on.

Warning! Malitol/sorbitol
judid replied to punk.rock.mama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have to say that before RNY those nasty sugarfree ingrdients were killers in my gut--gas and diarhea but now just gas and pain. I find myself mostly constipated all the time. Have tried everything including varities of laxatives which work but you can't use them everyday, chop salads, apple slices, fiber supplements of every variety. Nothing works until I use laxative or enema. Anyone dealing with this? -
Friday Weigh-In!
judid replied to KevinsBabyGirl85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Weight at sugery 5/29--252,. Last week 209.8 today 207.8. I am finding it so interesting that I'm pretty much exactly the same weight to the ounce all week and then on Friday drops 1.5 to 2 lbs. Very strange but so happy to move in the right direction however slowly. -
I had surgery on a Tuesday was back to work the following Monday. I am a high school teacher and it was the last week of school so I got my big boys to do any lifting and I was tired but made it without complications. I think we are all so different but sometimes just deciding you can do it, if you are not in terrible pain will get you through. Pain is to me the best indicator of whether it's doable. I really had very little pain. I also went to the gym the Saturday after surgery. Did a very careful, light workout as I had been working out up to the day of surgery--do what you can don't beat yourself up for what you can't.

Underactive Thyroid Question
judid replied to Anniesmom12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been on thyroid since a teenager. Have lost, gained and maintained weight throughout. Now losing on RNY but know that thyroid will be a lifetime med and will sometimes need adjustment up or down. Just be aware of how you are feeling energy wise and do not neglect to have tested at least yearly. Weight loss can improve some but usually not completely remove the need for support. -
