First Consult with MD office..
Telecia replied to medic3345's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maybe you should recommend he come join this site and start learning just how many people have lost way more then 30-40 lbs. -
my arms look sort of colores but i cant call it a tan lol.. If you look real close just above my wrists is a swatch that goes halfway to the elbow that looks somewhat tanned, as it gets closer to the elbow it turns into darker freckles first time I noticed it I thought my arm was dirty lol. But no both arms do this and the right is a tiny bit darker then the other. I cant say the Patches are freckles cause pretty continuous and there isnt and real definition to them if they are huge patches of freckles so who knows. something to ask the doc about I guess. I keep telling my kids I should just get over the whole pale thing and turn into huge freckle that way I could have a tan once in my life.

yea I will probably do that myself, I really cant see paying allot of $$ for a home scale. As I'm one of those who wouldnt weigh daily anyhow. Years ago after my mom had a bypass she told me that her doc said weighing daily isn't accurate cause of water gain/loss and that she shouldnt weight more then once or twice a month. And I have had docs since tell me that too. But I would like to know if the doctors office scales are correct or not. as 100 lbs off isnt something to overlook. But I REALLY DON'T wanna go to the post office. That is embarassing.

Well I finally saw the new doctor yesterday. Spent 2 hours on the first visit just getting the baseline stuff down. he ordered a ton of tests. Changed some of my perscriptions. And we talked about alot of things. OMG my new doc is a DISH! LOL. :tt1:  Right now his take on my increasing mobility problems/weight is that he has ordered hydrotherapy. To increase strength and stamina so that I can hopefully start getting in more daily excersise. Not sure how often or how long the sessions are gonna be. They will call me with that soon. But its a nice step that my previous doc didn't bother with. He's of a mind to do whatever it takes to get me moving more. I am also to let him know if I start having any new pain with the hydrotherapy too. As he will perscribe me actuall pain meds but only after the therapy starts and I am sure I will need them. Have to see. My last weight at the old doc 6 months ago was 440. Yesterdays the nurse said it was 338?!? I did not see the #'s myself and I suspect they are off terribly as my clothes haven't gotten any bigger on me. The nurse didn't pull the scale out of the little corner it was in so I was partially up against the wall on one side. So I suspect the reading might be off. But man that would awesome to have lost 100lbs in the last 6 months. lol but I seriously doubt that is the case, not that much at least. I know my changes in diet will have probably caused some loss but nothing that drastic. :frown: Peeking at the computer screen the doc was looking it it said my BMI was 56.1.:w00t: He saw my jaw drop look and I told him what my weight was 6 months ago. And didn't ask me to get on the scale again. Next visit I will ask the nurse to move the scale away from the wall for a more accurate reading though. It was a digital one. Went over to the lab they have in the office for the blood draws and the nurse there was raather snarky. 10 1/2 hours fasting wasn't enough she said had to be 12+ talk about pissed, :tt1: she didnt even LOOK at the 3 other sheets of tests the doc wanted done. One was a mamogram that should have been schedualed. BUT NO she wouldn't even look at the others. So I left. Now it will be another week before my BF has a day off durring the week so we can try again. ugh. He did give me a chantix perscription (least he said he was going to) but I gotta call the pharmachy to find out why It wasn't filled or if it might not have been in the big stack of perscriptions. But thank heavens he said if something was missing to call the office. (the clinic REFUSED to do things over the phone) I was also really nice that he remembered my BF's name and a couple other details without having a chart in front of him. And my BF's only seen him once now. So conclusion is everything didn't get addressed at the appointment but I expected that. I HAVE to go back in a month but I will probably make another appointment before that to address a couple of things like needing a humidifier for my CPAP. But overall so far I'm way more happy with Charlie then the old docs. I have no idea yet if he would approve the band. As I didn't ask, and he didn't comment on it being on my printed up list. But he is at least agreeing that SOMETHING needs to be done and anything he can help with towards that goal he seems willing to do.

OH I believe it. I know for a fact that the 3-4 days before my period starts is when I am most likely to be the one who initiates sex. Heck My BF can tell me if I am gonna start soon cause he says I smell different. Also if you have more then one woman in a household, one will become the *Alpha* of sorts and many of the others will actually change their cycles to fit in with the Alphas cycle. My foster mom told me that, there were 6 teen aged foster kids and she had 1 daughter still at home. And anytime we got a new girl in the house either her cycle changed to adapt to everyone elses or we got a new Alpha. lol It was amazing to have all 8 women cycle at the same time LOL! I often wonder how my foster dad managed it. That many females with PMS at the same time. No wonder he would seem to find excuses to be outside allot. (Farmer) Ahh well I have seen some people who have used PMS as an excuse. But then again they were the type of people to make any ache or pain as excuse for something. But that sounds like a good book to look into.

Went to the doctor yesterday and he was telling me that anything over a SPF of 15 is a waste of money. I can't help but wonder if this is true or not? but heck he comes from the carribean so maybe he knows. lol He changed a couple of my medicines and was pretty insistent for me to avoid sunburns or much exposier to the sun. I am super fair skinned as it is, never have really tanned either, just get huge explosions of freckles lol. And after a few cases of sun poisioning I gave up ever thinking I could be tanned.

LOL my BF has this odd way of saying it halway like a zombie or something eyes all wide, just before he mock headbuts them lol. Then does this mime thing like he cant pull away from them.

my mom has lap band.. and she is in danger
Telecia replied to sammie1030's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Don't scare her??!? Get real shes 14 not 6. Telling her not to worry mom will get to get a doctor is probably the most irresponsible thing I have ever read on this forum!!! ONLY A DOCTOR SHOULD GIVE ADVICE ON SOMETHING THIS SERIOUS. not some stranger on a webforum First she already is worried. And telling her it will be ok is giving a false sense of security in POTENTIALLY serious situation And if mom hasn't called her surgeon already or can't because of the vomiting SOMEONE NEEDS TO!! If there is no other adult around who can call the doctor/911 at 14 she is perfectly capable if mom cannot. No actualy it should be more like "Mom do you want me to call <Insert dad, uncle, aunt, 5th cousin twice removed if needed, or another adult family member, friend, trusted neighbor to call the surgeon/911 NOW, explain that she has a gastric band and needs to have something to stop the vomiting at the least. Or come take your mom to the emergency room. 99% of surgeons/doctors have emergency paging services for this kind of thing. And most paging services recomend you call 991 rather then wait on the surgeon to call back if its life threatening. Uncontrolable vomiting is a serious thing with the band and at the least the Emergency room will give her something to stop the vomiting if you can't reach the surgeon. -
Oh heavens yes. It started with one hair that dark and longer then the rest. I started plucking it. After a while I would just pluck it while being on the computer something I regret now. Which lead to getting other hairs accidently and well over the last 15 years lets say now I have to shave or delapidate(sp?) almost as much hair as my BF does. LOL. I just don't get the 5 o'clock shadows. And I can go 2-3 days in between. I've often thought of waxing but I know I couldnt do my upper lip I can't even tweese there. But I could the rest of my face. I sneeze alot when plucking my right eyebrows lol. But my BF and I think that I should either start waxing or get one of those parafin wax things they now sell for joint pain. Not for the facial hair but the dang clogged pores & blackheads I seem to get horribly on my inner thighs & underside of my arms. cause normal washing/showering don't help and I can't get down in a bathtub to soak. I do know the best masks I used to use ages ago had wax in them would litterly pull the crap out of my pores but you just can't find those anymore.

Dunno about band surgery but I know for my apendicitis they said NO tampons they just put extra padding under me and after I hit recovery they gave me a pad to tuck in place along with the extra pad under me. Once I got up and started walking then they said ok to tampons or pads & underwear but only cause my underwear didnt come close to my incisions. Ever dr. hospital has different ways of handling it. If your concerned ask. Ask your surgeon or you can usually call the same day surgery dept that calls you the 2-3 days before surgery to give you details. And yes they are sooo used to dealing with it theres no need to be embarased.

I was ALWAYS tallest in grade/junior high and despite that I *lived* in 3 inch heeled cowboy boots lol. At 5'9 made me 6 ft I loved it. I enjoyed intimidating the guys in that manner cause most were such jerks. This time of year I have a fanny pack. Only own 1 purse and I carry it in the winter. I love movies with strong women roles but not to hot on sappy ones. Depends on how its done. One of my favorite movies is the color purple. Whoopie rocks. Now here I start to get a bit girly. I have been a bit obsessed with my nails since changing my diet they are growing again. This is only happend to me in the past when pregnant. lol. So now I'm back to doing them every 3rd day. Toes last forever with a touch up layer. Never had either. Do it myself, not comfortable spending money on these kind of things. Always something else more important. LOL growing up my parents would take us fishing. My 2 younger brothers were to squemish to bait their own hooks so I did it. I also helped dad gut & prep catfish & turtles, squirrels etc. Snapping turtles are AMAZINGLY strong. lol Do my own but if I could find a place I could actually sit in the salon chair I have been consdering getting my hair cut, its to damn long (small of my back long) and I'm tired of having to put it up to keep it off my neck. OMG I agree lol!! It HAD to be a man who invented pantyhose and underwires just to torture women. lol Now while I would NEVER wear one. I do think they are cute lol Shoes. Hrmm I think I own like 6 pair. 3 of which are houseslippers, 1 summer sandal, 2 pair of athletic, sneaker types. I want a pair of low heel boots but not at the prices i've seen. I wear a womens 13 so buying anyplace nearby is out of the question unless I buy men's. I HATE wearing shoes. Had a scare this week though that I thought I might have broken my toe so I'm trying to remember to wear my house slippers again. Normally I run around in just socks. And out on shoes for going out. I do like wearing jewlery but anymore even the hypoallergenic or sterling silver causes me to break out. but only my ears so no more earrings till I can find something that dont hurt after half an hour.

yeow! alcohol will dry the skin out. NO NO On burns!! I would run to the nearest wal-mart and get a bottle of Ocean Potion 100% Aloe Gel, It has color, fragrance and a couple additives in it but NO Alcohol. Welcome to Ocean Potion! Aloe Gel, 20.5oz 5.99 a bottle I hate to tell anyone to shop at wal-mart but its the only place I know that sells it. Besides online. It's what me and my daughter use for after sun care for years now (daughter mostly). they do have a ice version that is supossed to help with the pain but I have not seen it in my local wal-mart. So I can't vouch for it. Ditch the aloe with alcohol, save it for something else. lol A few drops of plain old baby oil in bath Water is one of the best things I have ever used for skin moisture. My daughter when she was little used to get horrible Patches of scorisis(SP?) that even perscriptions wouldn't touch. Only thing that would help her was colidial(sp?) oatmeal & a few drops of baby oil in her nightly bath. If we started the treatments when it first appeared it saved her the pain full hassle of perscription creams that did little. You just gotta make sure NOT to get it in your hair. lol as it takes forever to get the oil out of it.

Need Help to Get Insurance Approval for Lap Band as a Treatment for Diabetes
Telecia replied to Sooner's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
For me one of my arguments to my old doc (Start seeing a new in 2days!) Was that I can't get as good control of my diabetes because I am so conditioned to eating large portions. And much of that is high carb stuff like bread, rice, Pasta, potatoes etc. cause its so much cheaper then the fresh veggies & high protien lean meats, I should be eating. I have changed that somewhat. As much as I can at the moment. But till I can get the portion control size the band would allow the best I can do is try to keep reducing my meal sizes. If your have complications due to the diabetes that alone should be reason enough to approve the surgery as some of the complications can be devistating. Worst cases of amputations or blindness come to mind. Keep trying! Do you have any other specialist and or doctors that might also be able to assist in writing up needed documents? cardioligist or another doc for the sleep apnea? Is your sleep apnea treatment working well? Might be another thing to add to the document if its not working so hot. What about joint pain or mobility/balance problems? Jacks right usually the insurance company has a set list of what has to be met other then the doctors recomendation. Have you called the company to see what these requirements are? You might ask to see what letter your doctor is sending in and see about him/her modifying it. With any additional information you can find. I know others on this forum have posed example letters their docs have sent in maybe search for some to get ideas? I have a BMI of 71 and couldn't get my PCP to approve the surgery shes totally ANTI-surgery. But my cardio & podiatrist are for it. So I changed doctors!! LOL now i'm hoping after 11 months of fighting with the anti-surgery witch I have a doctor who's at least concerned enough to talk about it. -
You know that is one thing I can't understand either. If you have to have ANY kind of treatment to correct a problem everyone who finds out for miles around will pat you on the back and wish you well/fast recovery etc.. Even the people that never noticed you beforehand. But yet when it comes to doing something so positive for your health as WLS when all other options fail they all turn into the harshest of critics and know it alls. No one ever claims to the patient after a open heart surgery "Well now you gotta change your diet and lifestyle now dont ya!?" no!! for the most part it's only doctors who will talk like that and of course they would they have the knowledge to do so. Bah its depressing sometimes now negativly based our society has grown to be. Whatever happend to the old saying " if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all Fern Britton needs support and commended on doing well with her weight loss. no matter how it was achieved not the possiblity of losing her job and heavens knows what else she is attempting to deal with right now because someone wanted to be an ***hole. rockchick you know your mom best. I personally would not blame you the slightest if you chose not to tell her. Maybe for now its best for you not to. Only you know what you can live with and what not. And if she is that much a negativity tosser save yourself the grief. You don't need that extra hassle right now. Focus on you. Later on down the road you might change your mind. You know as a parent I may not like the choices my kids make but I have to respect the ones they do make. Even if I feel they are wrong. And I wouldn't constantly gripe about it. I might voice my mind once or twice in a serious talk. But after that I'd be to afraid my kids would stop coming around/communicating. It's hard just watching them learn the hard way but when someone is convinced/set you won't change their mind. you just gotta let them do.. And I told you so's to me are just hurtfull. Congrats on your band and kudos to you for doing something to take control.

Evaporation isn't possible since the saline is enclosed in a medical grade silicon tube. But leakage certainly is possible.

I don't know if they can or cannot do it but they are. Big sign as you enter the complexes pool and every year they send out flyers too. The arguement is that the oils etc clog up the pools filters. And since you have to have a magnetic pass card to get in. They can deny you entrance I have never yet been burnt through a tshirt in my life. And have been wearing them when I swim since i was 11 years old. I don't do white period. If anyone in the house has any white clothing its cause it was a gift. LOL I have never been able to keep white clean. not even socks. My first bought with sun poisioning came at 11. When me and a girlfriend spent the day at the beach with her granparents and her grandmother made darn shure to pull us off our floating rafts to reapply sunscreen every 2 hours. It took me over a month to heal up from that. 3 weeks just to be able to wear LOSE shirts over it, my back was a horrible mess. We basicly just used our rafts in such a way from the waist down we didnt get sunburned cause it was underwater. we spent the daay catching up as we hand't seen each other for months it was also a cloudy overcast day too. suposed to be WORSE for burning. In fact every MAJOR sunburn I have ever got was while wearing *sunblock/screen* suposedly being Water proof or resistant. I just find it much better for me to keep covered.
-
wish I could remember the name of it. there is a spray on pain reliever for sunburn that I would use when ever I got sun poisioning. Been years though so I dunno if its still available or not. Now I don't bother with sunscreens/blocks much. I don't tan anyhow, whenever I go to the pool (they don't allow suntan/block products at all cause they mess up the filter) I just wear a tshirt. Aloe and white vinagar always helped the most though of any at home products. But I do use a SPF 30 sunscreen when in the car for very long.

I can believe that the fat holds on to estrogen. When I was more normal weight I had good periods, compared to many I have had since I went through a spell 1-2 years before i left my exhusband and the first 6 months or so after where I had periods from hell. They have always been regular in the time between flows aspect but I would have Massive cramping, huge clots and bleed so bad on 2nd & 3rd days I couldn't leave the house. Pad's & tampons had to be combined with chucks pads like hosptials use on the furniture cause the combo of tampon & pad wouldnt last more then 15-20 minutes at best. Now this was durring the time I had stoped having sex period with my ex and was severely depressed. Left the SOB and 3 months later moved in my curent BF. By the third month of having regular sex again my periods went almost back to normal. Still a bit heavy sometimes but nothing like before. No massive clots etc. by 6months together after the doctors suggestion to add Iron durring that week they were totally back to normal. Now If I forget to start my iron suppliments 2-3 days before TIM starts I still get a bit of cramping and small clots. But nothing like the nightmare they used to be. My iron levels are fine the rest of the month but durring my periods they get pretty low. I just hope that after band surgery they won't get nasty again but If they do I will live. I'd much rather have 4-5 days of inconvience then remain my size.

Should I stay in the hospital overnight?
Telecia replied to Sofia Bell's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Personally I would stay. I would think that IF by chance something pops up after surgery your there already. And the extra care and watchfullness will be benificial. Not to mention if you get any nausea or anything come up you might need medication for or a change in meds they can do that MUCH faster while your there then if you had gone ahead home. -
Weight loss will help reduce the knee pain. Besides have you asked your doctor about alternative medicines you can take besides tylenol? After surgery you will be on pain meds for a while at least. Many doctors say no to NASIDS after banding because they can tend to cause erosion of the mucus layer that protects our stomachs from our own stomach acid. Since the band makes them physically sit in one place longer then they normally would. Talking to one of my PCP's a few months ago about the chance of NASIDS causing ulcers she said there are other options like cortzone shots and a couple other medications that don't have the same side effects. But that if you lose enough weight they may be totally uneeded. She also told me 20-40 lb. loss may be enough to not need pain relief anymore but of course everyone varies.

Just received $5,000 bill from hospital for lap band???

Used to be a huge tomboy when I was younger even though I did the whole 1 hour makeup thing & another hour on my hair things up till about the age of 25. But I'm weird too lol I own 1 dress that I have never worn lol. I LOVE ankle length skirts though. It's finding material/patterns that is hard for me I seriously dislike most patterns. But bright & colorfull I Love. I don't mind some ruffles and lace depends on how they are done though. A ruffle or lace at the sleeves or bottom of the skirt is great. Around my neck bugs me and just looks wrong. lol. But I love and make my own ruffled or lace hair scrunchies sometimes. My Idea of more girly dressing is things like I now own, several bell type sleeved tops, long skirts, jackets and such that 20 years ago I would called to sissylooking. lol Even if I could find a pair of jeans now I wouldn't bother with em now as I dislike heavier fabrics. And I lived in jeans when I was younger. I don't like tight clothes anymore. Couple of my favorites things to wear now. Stretchy lace black top. I love how it looks and how cool it is. Wish I could find others in other colors though. I'm not big on black really. But its going on 5 years old and still looks new! Long skirts especially with these crochet short vests I have. Or a sports bra around the house when it gets hot. I am more likely now to wear more jewelry then I did 20 years ago. And things like ankle bracelets, bangles etc. Always hated heels but did wear them before I had kids. But most likely to take em off. I have pictures of my wedding of me in my white with hot pink ankle hightop sneakers!! LOL Can't stand the whole hose/slip/layering thing with dresses. To reminicent of church on sunday growing up I guess. The one dress I own has bell sleeves and is black with a rainbow sparkle effect all over it. And is about calf length. But after 6 years in the closet It still hangs lol. Maybe that will change when I get some weight off I can have it altered to fit. I'm also a real stickler about clothes that can be washed and or natural feeling fabrics. If I can't toss it in the washer I wont buy it. If its wool or something Itchy I won't buy it either.

yep my right side is bigger then the left. It's most notable when i'm naked. hopefully after I get my band and get to my goals PS will fix it and stop or at least slow the vicious downward trek they seem to be hell bent on reaching my belly button or something. lol
