  1. Yes I have asked this same question many times. lol you can get reconditoned stuff online if you got $2000+ to spend. you know you keep hearing all the time how the obese the populations in the world are getting but you can't find excersize equipment easily for anyone over 250lbs. I wan't a treadmill, doubt I will ever find one though till I can shed 100= lbs though. Ocasionally I check out the local excersize place that sells reconditoned stuff but they rarely get in the really good machines with the higher weight limits. I'm gonna get me one of these at least & see how it works InStride Cycle XL | Stamina | Walgreens they have a lighterweight version for only 30$ too.

    Worried

Wow so sorry to hear family not being supportive. Thats hard but sometimes you just gotta do something for you and damn the rest of the world. jillbeme would he be willing to go to the orienntation with you? Often times once the spouse/mate gets well informed they become more supportive. mine was totally against the idea of surgery untill I started filling him in on the details of the band. Now hes 100% behind me. I even made him watch the Utube video of a lapband procedure. flowers, oftentimes people who haven't battled weight all their lives just cant *Get it* they haven't gone through the same experiences that come with life as a fat person. So to them Weight loss surgery is a cop out, cheat or easy way out. When those of us who have battled the yo yo scale know isn't so. Maybe educating her would help too. Who knows. If she not willing them maybe you will have to just tell your doing what YOU think is best and tell her its a no discussion topic. Smartiegirl, she probably does want whats best for you. At least what she thinks is best. Many times other overweight friends/family members are not supportive because they are jealous, that you might actually succede where they have failed, or because they don't know enough about weight loss surgery options to be educated. You gotta realize MOST people seem to have only heard of the bypass, and they rarely hear the good things. Several people I know who I told I wanted this had never heard of the band past the ocasional tv comercial and had only heard horror stories about bypass patients. So OF COURSE they would be against you having weight loss surgery. While it is hard to not have a support system with your family it is not impossible to do. Most every surgeon will have support groups, they may not all be banders but don't count them out either, theres this site here which is GREAT. You can build your own support group online and in real life if you just work at it. Heck after your banded and if you do well you might find that many people will change their minds when they realize your doing well. But it all comes down to what do you want? Is your health important enough to you to do something about it. Sometimes you gotta just jump in there and grab the bull by the horns and teach it who's boss!! :cursing: Hmm thats gonna be my new sig. lol

    Worked Up

Also many times if your needle phobic they can do things to help you get through it, when I cam down with MRSA I was hospitalized for 6 weeks! With heavy duty IV therapy. after the first week my veins started protesting the treatments (some of the places took months to go back to normal). And it got to the point they had to change my Iv's twice a day. They had numerous tricks to handle this because by the second week I would literly cry when the nurse came in with a new IV setup. cause I knew what was gonna happen. And I am NOT needle phobic. They did all sorts of things from rubbing on a numbing agent, then injecting one and having a second nurse come in and keep me occupied so I wouldnt SEE the other nurse working. And with all the numbing I couldn't feel it either. This is something you need to talk to your surgeon about. and the nurses etc. the morning before surgery. They are used to people being needle phobic and will most often times have ways to get you around it. After all its part of their job and no matter how needle phobic you are they have probably seen dozens before you :cursing:
  4. I know this feeling well. My dr has just decided that walking the long hallway of my apartment isn't enough. Cause even though I can walk it more then I could a month ago. I need to gain endurance so he's ordering me to do hydro (Pool therapy) Since its easier on the joints. If I'm on my feet for more then 5 min my back SCREAMS and my legs go numb. Got me a set of handheld weights i'm gonna start using with the chair type excersises too. Considering ankle weights for the hall walking but the doc said not yet. Since i'm now under a cardioligists care he said I have to be carefull on the excersising at first. I want the portable bike pedal thing you can use sitting or put it on a table for use with the arms but gotta save up the $50 for it first.

    Tampons or Pads.

Amen to that. I only use kotex anymore cause most of the applicators are either cardboard or dont have enough grip around them to hold onto when inserting them lol ! I like the rim on the kotex aplicators, Tried the tampax and nope slipped out of my fingers. This is another thing that might change as I get weight off since it can be a contortion act right now. lol. So whats with this new thing of offering 2-3 sizes in one box. Its suddenly become almost impossible to find a large box of any one size. I normally buy the big boxes of I think 38-40 and I do pretty much use them ALL in one month. I get my daughter the regulars so If I am on a really light day I can grab a couple of hers. But for the most part I just use the one size, super plus lol. I like the idea of the Novasure procedure and I was already looking for a ob/gyn anyhow and I found 5 different ones in this area that do the novasure procedure so I'm gonna see if any of those are accepting new patients. 3 of the 5 are female doctors also which I like. I don't care to much for some strange man doing papsmears on me lol

    Period talk.

dunno how true it is but a few years ago I was in the hosptial for a month for cellulitis & MRSA flareup and the doctor who treated me then told me that seriously obese patients do often stop having periods due to estrogen getting trapped in the fat. So she was suprised mine where so heavy. My higest weight was 650 at the point I was hospitalized, and I STILL had my periods. But when released from that stay I had lost 50lbs mostly due to the swelling. But I have an aunt who only hit 300-350 who stoped having them. but obviously that differs from person to person.

    Tampons or Pads.

Hehe I could see that being as my step mom was the same way she wouldn't let me use taampons either but she had the OB ones that dont have applicators. My first *try* was somewhat similar as I didn't get it far enough IN. lol found it to be totally UNCOMFORTABLE and said I would never try em again. Mom spotted the wrapper in the trash and confronted me then had a good chuckle when she explained WHY it was so uncomfortable. I was 11 I had no clue as I had been raised in a household where you didn talk about such things. My step mom sat me down and explained it all. Well that was the day BEFORE the tampon thing. I noticed blood and totally freaked the day before but I had no idea why I was bleeding. she did sit me down after the tampon thing and explained why she didnt want me to use them.. (Whole toxic shock thing) and why pads were what I should use untill we figured out what my periods were gonna be like and once I got into the routine to make sure I changed them often. Looking at the cups they sound like something I would like to try but not before I lose allot more. cause I have to really do a contortion act to be able to reach inside lol I certainly can't do it sitting on the toilet like they recomend. Tampons I can do standing with one fot on the tub or something. I actually MISS BC pills. I learned by the time I was 17 how to manipulate my pills so that I didn't have my period when I didnt want it. lol like xmas holiday break etc. After son #3 and 2 other failed pregnancys I got my tubes done so no more BC for me. I so seriously hate my periods enough at times I wish I could get the whole mess removed but I would hate being on hormones too I bet. I'm amazed. I am on my heavest day today and this month hasn't been bad at all. Only problem has been overnight.

    So Sad Another 3-4 Weeks

Yea the only time I can see it taking longer then a week would be incase of vacation, unexpeded illness on the docs part or suregery, carwreck things like that. If the office lost the number to fax it to they should have called you and asked for it again. Or if it was to a doctor in the same area just looked it up. Leaving you hanging for weeks on end isn't very professional. I had to take my kids into the eye doctor this week to pick up their new glasses/get them fitted So I gave the receptionist the card my doctor gave me and asked for a copy of my most recent eye exam to be faxed to him. Well the fax# wasnt on the card but it WAS in the yellow pages!! Lol

Should I be a witch, or no?

I agree give it back to her, WARN her if she doesn't show your gonna curb it/goodwill it etc. And when she does show I would tell her NOT to bother asking for favors in the future if she can't be bothered with following up more reasonably. I'm like susan4794 I have been way to nice for to long to allot of people. If I could get all the $$$ back from so called *friends* I have helped out, I could pay for my surgery flat out!! Or buy a new car. No more of that. Now if someone comes begging I will try to help them out, not by giving them $$ or a place to stay but help them work it out on their own or guide them to possible agencies/programs etc. that can help. I'm lucky as in our apartment complex I am not allowed to have *visitors* for more then 2 weeks. They don't know this though so I usually say 1 week. Or not at all. lol Mean I know but I have been burned sooooooooo many times I'm not willing to do it again. Now the only person I will help out in that kind of way is my son, he's been out on his own for 3 years now. And ocassionally needs a bit of help. But at least he pays me back!!

What do you like in a support group?

What a great thing your doing!! Years ago I can't recall the name of the group but it was a local support group for weight loss(by diet & excersise). In my hometown (like 5000pop) It was usually held in one members home (changed each month) Which gave many the oportuntity to actually cook or have dishes to try that were weight loss friendly. (this was optional but done quite allot). Everyone would also bring along outgrown clothes for a clothing swap, and the usual swap recipes, book ideas, shopping chats. Occasionally roughly ever 4 months or so everyone would chip in and get a conference room at one of the local restraunts that had a good selection of healthy dishes. Durring Fair month the group would make the meeting at the fairgrounds so they could check out the recipes and various other goodies you can find at your local county or state fairs. And of course get in some good excersing walking the barns lol. They ocasionally had personal trainers who would come and talk, dieticians, even a doctor once while I was with the group. Sometimes the meetings ended up being like housepartys for things like herbalife, tupperwear or anything that could be helpfull or related to weight loss. Once they had a houseparty for adult toys & lingere even. Mostly focusing on the lingere. The cool thing about having small groups is its much easier to add more variety of things. Like meeting in the park and incorporating a cookout or hike the trails or whatever.
  11. They physically literly fold a section of your stomach over the band and stich it in place. Yes the stiches are strong, but a layer of scar tissue HAS to grow to hold the band in place for the long term. From the offical Allergan site (one of the companys that make Lapbands: Lapband.com - The First Few Weeks After Surgery Not much can you do about what you have already ate but you should get back on your doctors perscribed diet and follow it. Its for your own safety and success with the band.

    So Sad Another 3-4 Weeks

I would be getting on the phone to the psycholigists office and find out why its taking so long. There is no reason for them holding up your surgery for that long. You can offer to hand carry the report to your doctor also if they are having that much trouble with it. You might have to start calling the psycholigists office every 2-3 days and keep on them (Just remember to remain polite). Is your doctor also calling/fax them about it? I can't imagine a office taking that long. There just isn't any real reason possible other other then someone in there isn't doing their job very well.
  13. I usually get the oposite problem, But for the last several years up till the last 6months or so have had really soft and often bowels. Now that I have doubled the veggies in my diet and started eliminating carbs the toothpaste consistency and multiple movements a day has gone away. lol But I still get it back durring TOM.

    Moody.

aww mrsflipflops a *hug* hoping you'll feel better. I know how you feel I go through the same thing at times with my BF, what gets me most is when he says he wants to talk etc. then won't get off the puter and can't seem to understand why I get upset We do tabletop roleplaying for a couple hours each night before bed. And I really look forward to it. He says he does too but then he drags his feet when I get back to our room and just can't turn off his browser/email/game whatever. I give him reasonable amount of time its usually 20-30 minutes before I start to get upset. But then he can't seem to understnd why I am getting upset. (In mocking angry tone to BF) geeze maybe its because I come back here to spend time with you!! *sometimes wants to swat him* Last week when my daughter had surgery I bought me a couple wordfind books so guess what I do while I wait. lol. then I make him wait till I get my puzzle done. lol hes getting better about it now.

    Moody.

heh haven't even got a band yet so I fear for my BF when I do. Woke up this morning to my TOM, not happy about that but I guess I should have suspected it since I had a big crying frustration fit last night. I only seem to have those when i'm on or close to my TOM. And of course afterwards I feel so silly for getting that upset over something. But man I was ready to throw my computer through the patio doors last night just to have the satisfaction of seeing it spread across the parking lot. lol I had to reformat my computer 25 days ago. BUT since neither of the last 2 computers I have bought in the last 5 years came with recovery CD's at all and the HD that the recovery data ws on died and had to be replaced, I had to use BF's copy of XP to reinstall. Thinking I could still use the CD key off the back of my computer. WRONG. Microsoft says my # is invalid contact the place you bought the computer. Best buy says your past warrenty no help there. :cursing: Microsoft wants $99.00 for a stupid CD key!! My son said upgrade to XP pro corp and he sent me a cd. It still takes a CD key but he got me one from his job, (he does this for a living) But I can't just upgrade XP home to XP pro corp. Windows says theres corrupt files on this brand new never used before CD. So I guess my only option now is to do a total reformat and pray the so called corrupt files don't continue to be a problem. Then spend the 2-3 days getting everything I use installed back to the system. And of course all this just had to happen with TOM arriving. So yea. I know about the moodyness too. No wonder my daughter left for the day.
  16. if your getting enough fliuds then its probably withdrawl or reaction from the sudden change in diet. It could be withdraw from sugar/carbs/caffiene, it could be a side effect of the pain medicine also. The body can be fickle about sudden changes. So many things it could be. If your really concerned call the doctor.

    Lifting a baby post-op

I had the same problem after my apendix removal. If your really carefull lift with your legs not your stomach muscles, adapt yourself for a while to not need to do as much straight up lifting like instead of picking him/her up from the floor, guide the child so you can sit on a chair, couch, bed and get them in your lap then use your legs to lift you both up. A footstool can be a HUGE help especially if you can get/have one with steps. for things like getting the kids in and out of the tub or highchairs etc. Things like that. And if you cant have another adult/spouse etc. help you out if you have a younger family member somtimes that can be a huge godsend. Thankfully my daughter and 1 son were big enough to help out when I needed to lift my youngest. That it wasn't an issue.
  18. I don't have my band yet but I have become a food network addict. LOL much to the dismay of my kids who think its boring. I adore Alton Browns Good Eats shows the most since he gets down and explains they whys behind most of the preperation methods and the science behind the foods. I find it has increased my knowledge and allowes me to do more changes to recipes I already had that were family favorites to make them healthier for us. I don't find that watching cooking shows increases my hunger at all. Comercials sometimes do but not the cooking shows. love the salmon recipe will have to try it.

    Tampons or Pads.

Nope I don't think its gross, after all women have handled their periods that way for centries. I used a combo of cloth diapers and disposables on the kids, cloth at home and disposables when we went out. And when they were in the pullups at night, we reused them if they didnt soil em. Mostly for the reduction in cost. But I don't mind that it saves a few tons in a landfill somwhere. I'm willing to comprimise in alot of areas for the environment but I'll keep my tampons lol. I wouldn't even use pads if the tampons could handle my 2 heavy days. I have never liked feeling of a pad.

    Tampons or Pads.

Oh my daughter is going through this. she just had her second depro provera shot and she had spooting for 3 weeks out of the month lol. one of the side effects is suposed to be a cesation of periods shes hoping and praying for that and so far has got the oposite. Dr said to give it time all her patients who stoped having periods was at the 9 or 12 month mark ususally. But man I'm spending a fortune on tampons lately. lol

    Tampons or Pads.

Hmm your giving me intersting ideas. LOL. One of my problems is my panties. MIZRAK - The BBW's Fashion Friend - Plus Size Clothing Super-size SSBBW While I can buy them in sizes plenty big to pull up over the stomach the crotches are way wider and the wings don't grip to well most of the time. the pad needs to be like a inch and half wider to fit the panties well. lol I will have to try you method sounds like it would work better. I know what you mean about the overnights with wings, I was using the always overnights but they recently changed the design and it doesn't have as big of the back part that goes under you when you lay on your back anymore. Ticked me off. Never seems to fail I find a product that works well for me and they go and change it. I think it was carefree the last brand I bought cause it did have the extra wide back part. Will have to dig the bag out and see. lol. You know what I did years ago for nighttime. When my youngest was in pullups for toilettraining & night. They made the sides of the pullup tearable. I used those for nighttime pads a few times. lol worked great for at home but to bulky to wear under pants. My SIL said I should try using the pads for incontinence since they are made to absorb more Fluid. And I gotta admit I've thought aboit it.

    wow

I guess next week when I go back to his office to get the labs done I will ask to use the scales but make sure I pull it away from the wall. Its just a digital scale like you'd find in a home but I guess it goes up pretty high.

    My newest obsessions!

hehe this forum is one of my new addictions,I visit at least twice a day, as is researching more ways to make our diet more healthy in the ammount we can afford to spend each week, And getting out and doing more. Now that its summer we are trying to get over to the pool more. But I can't walk it and have to wait till one of the BF's days off. I also run a private game server & website so i'm learning more about sql databases and how to manipulate them.
  24. Being on top is one of those things I am looking forward to allot. Heck any possition other then doggy would be a nice change. Getting rid of the stomach is gonna be something I won't miss for sure. Prevents 99& of the possitions we want to use.
