Should people barely over 200 lbs or below 200 get Lapband or any WLS...?
Telecia replied to Froggi's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I certainly think that it should be available to anyone. Regardless of weight. Why? Why shuld someone have to wait till they reach 100+ lbs. If they have a signifigant enough dieting history that shows they have dieted in the past and can't keep it off then more power to them to prevent them from getting morbidly obese in the first place. Heck this is one thing I have real trouble with in the USA healthcare system. Waiting till there are actual problems to treat people who already have problems in certain areas. If someone has a family history of co-morbids or weight problems, And they struggle trying to lose or stay at a so called *Normal weight* why not? Since the band has the LEAST complications of all WLS it should be a good *Preventive* I wish my BF could get a band. Why? He & I both have real issues with portions. He has recently been put on insulin for his diabetes cause he can't get his numbers under control. Why can't he? Simple he eats to much. And the wrong kinds of foods. And while I am slowly replacing most carbs with better options. It's really hard and EXPENSIVE to do so. Realizing just how much we do eat has been an eye opener. I never really realized before all this just what a *Normal* portion is. I don't think anytime in my entire 40 years have I ever had a *Normal* portioned meal since perhaps the age of 5 and under. Also If you look at him. He doesn't appear much overweight. ALL of his weight is in his torso. He has nice trim sexy arms & legs with decent muscle definition, and just a tiny bit of overhang with his belly (Muffin top i guess its called) But according to the charts hes *morbidly obese* I swear if he lost 100 lbs I don't know where it would come from!! But portion control is something he could benifit from greatly. I wish I had learned what i know about the band 20 years ago. I would have found a way to pay for it then. To prevent from getting to the size I am now. -
Starting to think I chose the wrong program...
Telecia replied to Sue40's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Please don't dismiss the sleep apnea tests as not being needed. MOST people who have apnea don't realize it. Snoring and getting up to go to the bathroom at night are some of the symptoms. I assumed my sleepyness & constant bathroom runs at the time was due to my pregnancy boy was I wrong! I can say from experience from using a CPAP now for 13 years. It is really RARE now that I wake up just to go to the bathroom. Where before I was up 3-6 times a night. Have the test so you know for sure if you do or don't have it. As for the nurse trying to tell you about pregnancy. She's not a OB/GYN and shouldnt be giving advice like she is one. By all means call the psych about your concerns. Even if you do decide to try a program elsewhere. Cause even if they turn out to not be the right center for you they can't improve if they don't know where the problems are. -
Sounds like my old doc. There were more reasons then just weight loss surgery though that I found another doctor and I so far am not regretting it. Don't know that the new one will one approve surgery either yet. But in the last month I have been very impressed with his office and him. So for the rest of my medical problems its been a good thing I changed doctors. Will have to see about the band though. Don't wait a year to try and convince your current doctor like I did. Bring it up again with them and if they still claim its the *easy way out* go find you another one. Cause losing with the band s NOT Easy. It's still allot of work.

lol same here with my ex. I did fake a few but heck sex with the ex wasn't all that bad just way to infrequent. The first sign I shoulda bolted at but didn't lol. My BF now is just awesome he knows just how to handle the problem and makes sure I am not on the short end of orgasms.

If you have cable you really should check out the national geographic channel. For a show called the dog whisperer. Not only does he tell people how to solve behaviors like jumping he explains why dogs do it in the first place.

Anyone extra-emotional??
Telecia replied to luigismama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well first you just had surgery, and any major trauma to the body can cause mood swings look at what many women go through with childbirth & delivery post partum depression and such after any surgery/trauma is common. And to top it off your probably losing weight on top of it so its a double whammy. lol. I haven't gotten banded yet but I know after the birth of my youngest I had some of the most horrible mood swings I have ever had in my life. I had to be medicated they got so bad. I was losing weight cause I had just been diagnosed the day before his birth with sleep apnea & got the machine the day of his birth. Recovering from a c-section, suddenly cause of the apnea treatment I felt a thousand times better so I was up and moving around way more then I did before he was born. I lost 70 pounds in the first 3 months after he was born. But the mood swings were vicious. Doc said it was because of so many things happening to my body at once. I now looking back honestly do not how my family dealt with it. It was bad we were staying with my (now ex) husbands family at the time. One moment I was smiles and giggles the next throwing stuff across the room. lol But it will even out. -
You might want to check with your family doctor to make sure its not a UTI. but yes when your losing weight at a rapid pace your body smells and breath will change. Also since right now your on mostly liquids your body can also be flushing out more too. Long as you rule out a bladder infection and keep your Fluid intake good. Treat yourself to a nice new bodywash/spray/lotion set will help. Also eating to much of one thing like garlic & certain meds can affect your body smells too. oh my gosh my son in high school went through a spell where he ate garlic on everything (powdered, crushed and fresh) and no matter how often he showerd/brushed his teeth he stunk. Just like garlic. Had to hide it from him and it took a week for him to get back to normal. lol

Nah thats not it. It might have some bearing on it but years ago back in the days of when internet was only AOL, Compuserve and one other provider(I forget now) I used to be a moderator for Compuserves human sexuality chatrooms, and holding regular schedualed discussions & moderate side chatrooms was part of the job. It's actually not uncommon for many women to not orgasm from penetration alone. IF my memory serves me right and take into account this back in the late 80's it was something like 60-65% or women needed more then just penetration. But my memory sucks for numbers so that may be off. I used to research my topics when I could and frequently polls were done at the end of a chat. Quite interesting all in all although there weren't many actual women online at the time. I kinda miss those days, since now if you tried to go into a chatroom and discuss sex it would degrade rather fast to either a flamefest or people bugging you to cyber them lol. Gosh I feel old now lol.

You are not alone here :crying: I can on rare ocasions have one from penitration It doesn't happen often. Ususally I need a bit more help lol

Reminds me of when I was younger we would go park near the International airport (On top of a parking garage) And watch and listen to the planes. At night the garage was mostly empty! Growing up we lived in a very small farming town near a base and used to watch the jets do manuvers often!! Lots of times they would practice at night dropping flares and such. Was such a fun things for us kids to watch. Many times we would hear the jets coming long before they could be seen and we would run to the road (No trees) to watch them fly over.
-
This is also one of thost things I have a serious hard time doing for my SO cause of my size. Can't wait till the kids are all out on their own cause the living room couch is at the perfect height for this!!! Our bed is to high! And I can't be on my knees long =/

Well as for how much it is I imagine that would depend on a number of things. Like how long has it been since the last time the prostate was emptied or even semi emptied? Is the fellow well hydrated? I know from my experiences its not usually much Fluid. Maybe MAYBE a couple teaspoons or so on days where he hasn't released in a couple days. And as little as 1/2 teaspoon maybe durring times hes released 3-4 times a day. Heck this is something a guy would probably be better at helping us answer maybe. Cause I sure haven't ever tried to measure it. lol. And Froggie ****HUGS**** Anyone calling you names has to be seriously inmature & probably doesn't even have a sex life to start with. Or like someone else said is jealous. LOL.

Docs prefer to push the gastric bypass cause once your cleared after surgery and they release you. Thats it. They get their 15-25 grand and move on to the next paitent. Bypass costs more then the band. and has the least amount of aftercare. With the band your going to go back to your surgeon for fills/unfills probably for life unless you move/change doctors. Plus chances are after 5-10 years youll stop losing (if you don't change your habits drasticly) and regain weight once again meaning you will most likely try a revision surgery which means MORE money in his/her pocket. I have several family (5) members who have bypasses. I REFUSE to do the same to myself. NONE of them have gotten to goal weight, MOST have started regaining. And 2 have serious stomach & malnutrition problems. None were told they needed to relearn their eating habits, All keep eating junk/fast food/high sugar & carb foods. (not saying it isnt possible to be succesfull, but its not a magic pill) The one person who has done the best with a bypass (lost but some but never hit goal) now wants to get a band but is 9 months pregnant now and had to put that off for now. But shes curious about it now that I told her I wanted to do it. And we discussed it at length. Good for you with sticking to your decision

I've got HIVES really bad....HELP!!!
Telecia replied to rcoleband's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only had hives once in my life and the doc said they were from stress!!! Even if you can't take a soaking bath you can still make up the oatmeal in a basin/bucket/sink of warm Water and use handtowels or washcloths and lay them on the skin. Avoiding the incisions as much as you can. I can't remember what the dr perscribed for me but plain old benadryl or any antihystamine helps with the itching. If the itching gets to bad as a last resort you can use oragel or any tooth numbing gel/liquid too. it won't work for long but can sometimes provide instant relief for 15-20 minutes, while meds kick in. I have had to do this with my daughter when she gets poison ivy to keep her from digging at it. -
I would think waterproof would be the worst thing you can do for a wound trying to heal as they heal faster if they can dry out. Keeping moisture in just makes for germ breeding grounds. Since bacteria breeds best in warm & wet places. I's check with your doc on that though just to be sure. I know I was told NO to actually using waterproof bandages on my wound and was encouraged to shower and wash it out before each packing. But otherwise keep it dry. Even if it meant changing the gauze 4 times a day. The reason they pack gauze in them is so the wound can heal from the inside to the outside and not backwards, My-c section did that despite the packing and the doc zipped it back open with a scalpel one visit cause it was causing a underskin tube of sorts. After he did it and I freaked out on him he explained why he re-opened it. If it heals wrong it could cause nasty problems years later, like infection and reopening.

why a chest xray/ekg?
Telecia replied to midwestchickie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most of the tests should be covered. And yea since pneumnia is such a worry for people after surgery explains why the chest x ray, but its not a standard like the ekg is. Probably the surgeons preference. I'd be glad you have a doctor who choses to me more proactive. I have cronic bronchitis/asthma so I would be disapointed if my surgeon didnt look at my lungs. -
I know I'm being dumb....
Telecia replied to MicheleK's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Been smoking since the age of 11. I am 40 now and my insurance won't pay for chantix yet. Not till I try other methods. They recomended classes to help with quiting. And my dr. did get approval for the patch to help. But I gotta go through the patch & classes, if that dont work there is another drug I have to try before they will approve chantix. You should see if there are classes at your local hospital or clinic to help with breaking the habits we all have along with the ciggarettes. I tried the patch 15 years ago and it didn't help at all then but I also wasn't really willing to try and stop then either. Now I am so that should make a HUGE difference. And I am the only smoker in the house now. My now EX smoked and all our friends smoked so it was a huge hopeless struggle then. My BF stoped a few ago after he got sarcodosis in his lungs so I will no longer be tempted at home. And he will be my support when I get weak lol. I just hope he can live through the withdraws!!LOL I am a HUGE BABY when I get cravings. He's already expecting a few weeks of hell for this. I haven't had a chest xray in years either something to possibly ask my doc for next appointment. I Know what you mean about the fears! I have them also! But stopping is the best thing to do. For your health. On a similar note I had my first mamogram this week too. And suposed to get the results in the mail and I have been waiting anciously and they are now 2 days late! And to top it off my net/phone was out all day yesterday and today till 8pm. Voicemail wasn't even working so now I gotta wait till monday to talk with my doc. Guess I will have to back to nailbiting lol !! -
Sounds like what I had happen after my c-section years ago. It took me 6 months of packing & daily debrieding(Sp?) and the surgeon reopening it once even. To get it closed up but it was MUCH larger then a lapband incision. And even at 6months when the doctor released me it was still 1-inch long. But no longer needed packing just daily gauze changes and meds to prevent infections. But yes you have an open wound swimming is out of the question till it closes. You certainly don't want a infection to complicate it right now. I was also told NO BATHS either. Only showers or handbaths. That sucked cause I was still small enough to soak in the tub and couldnt. It's a good thing your husband is a nurse and can help with this. I had to have nurses come in twice a day to do mine and talk about expensive!! Not to mention some of the nurses weren't to gental either. Debrieding (Scrubbing the dead skin away basicly) wounds really sucks. Your probably in for a trial on your patience, so hang in there!!

Oh yea and make sure he eats lots of fruits!! and if he has eaten asparagus or spinach tell him no

Well I know there protien in it at least!! LOL. Just not allot. Semen - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia But I would think seriously for it to cause problems you'd have to be so seriously restricted you couldnt drink Water even. Ok since that subject got brought up how about any suggestion on how to do this without pain? See I had a tooth pulled several years ago and I guess now my teeth have shifted in my jaw? And now I can't do this for my BF anymore as my jaw joints ache terribly when I try. And then hurt for 2 days after!! I know I should ask a dentist about this but I am one of those who just HATES going to the dentist.

Anyone wear skirts now but didn't before??
Telecia replied to Christal's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Skirts are also MUCH easier to take in while your losing also. Something I did for years instead of buying new outfits each time I lost. Was take in some of the clothing. A skirt can be the easiest thing to take in without ruining the look of it. -
I get muscle cramps really bad if Ii stop taking my magnesium & calcium supliments (its a all in one pill of magnesium, calcuim & zinc). Used to I would just eat a bannana when I got them and that would do the trick but now that I am trying to seriously stick to my diabetic diet no bannanas allowed now =/ I rarely get them in the feet or legs mine usually happen around my waist especially on the sides. And will last for hours. I dunno if it would help with female type crampig as that is seperate thing but I dont have those cramps as bad as I used to but also take a Iron supliment each month durring my TOM which seems to do me the most good.

Even if you don't have sleep apnea a sleep study can be helpfull. There are other sleep disorders, and treatments for insomia at the least a slssp study might give your doctor insight on why your having insomia too since they measure all sorts of things durring them. Another helpfull site where you can learn alot about sleep is www.cpaptalk.com CPAP and Sleep Apnea Discussion Forum They do discuss more then just apnea and you can learn allot about sleep, habits, insomia etc.

the protien is mostly to help promote healing, you don't have to get in exact ammounts each day as long as you get in most of it. if you go a bit over or under shouldnt be a big deal as long as it averages out around what your doctor tells you your daily protien should be. Also important is to get in your fluids to keep hydrated and a Vitamin supliment. Many doctors dont recomend the protien shakes past the liquid phases though, And say you should get your protien through solid foods cause relying on shakes in the long term can really boost your calories. But ever doctor differs on this too. So go by what your doctor suggests. Also solid protien will last in the stomach longer keeping you from getting as hungry as fast. But if your suposed to be on liquids shakes are the best way to get the protien.

Depends on the type of cramping, female type or muscle cramps? Average muscle cramps can be a sign of a diet deficiency of not enough potassium, magnesium or Calcium. It can also be signs of dehydration too. Are you taking a daily Multivitamin that has calcium magnesium or potassium? Are you getting in enough Water each day? You should aim to drink enough fluids that your urine is light yellow to almost clear in color.
