    What would you change?

Better skin, I have soooooooo many freckles its not funny, I have off and on acne since I was 10. I don't tan and and have small red spots scattered about. To be more assertive in life, I have to really get pissed off before I will stand up for myself. Or tackle a problem. I didn't used to be this way. Now I am and I hate it. well its not weight but more how how his body is shaped he only has maybe 30 lbs to lose but he is barrel chested so he assumes he so overweight when he really isnt. You can feel his ribcage pretty easy. Easy.. for him not to procrastinate about things so much. My dining room is still not unpacked 10 months after we moved in. And I am not allowed to lift.

    My new furniture arrives today...

My ex was this way. he LOVED to cook however i dreaded when he did cause i would spend HOURS cleaning the kitchen back up afterwards. Your husband sounds like my daughter after 15 years of making her pick up after herself it still has NOT sunk in. And I am forever having to call her back to the kitchen/living room. Thankfully my current mate isn't quite so bad. The only place he makes messes is at his computer which is in in our room so it gets picked up nightly or I have fits. LOL

    Abusive Relationship

After being in a mentally abusive relation myself for 13 years I do understand what your going through. And the fears that keep you there. I put off leaving because I am disabled and have 3 kids. Now the only regret I have is not leaving sooner. But you've made a step in resolving something in your life that is troubling. GRATZ for that.!!:clap2: :whoo: Sometimes in life just a tiny step can lead to many more. But others have said it. Its your life and you have to make the decisions for yourself. As much as we can sympathise (sp?) and relate to what your going through. Its your choice. I agree though that counciling would be a smart move for you right now. As you get rid of the weight your self esteem will change. A good councilor can help you with your weight loss and your home problems. And you are right. Now is for healing. Hope the infection can be handled easily. Even though its 10 hours away can't you call them about it? Or maybe have your surgeon coordinate with your your family doctor? let us know what the doctor says?
  5. It just goes to show how many people these days insist on shoving responsibility onto someone else. Either out of stupidity or the greed behind the chance to be awarded large sums of money. I wish I'd had saved article I read once online about parents who were suing the school because the school *refused* to remove Peanut Butter sandwiches or from the menu or ban all nut Snacks from the school. Cause her child was allergic to it. The school went out of their way for this woman and her child's peanut allergy already. Offered many other substitutes and even put up signs in the lunch line warning about peanut butter. At 13 if this kid wasn't smart enough or had never been taught by his parents NOT to put things in his mouth. Then its the parents fault. Not the pen company. Geeze. *Wishes she was a judge sometimes just to be able to handle these kinds of cases* I swear I'd look at the parent's and tell them "you know the old saying about how stupid people shouldn't breed. You just fit in that catagory. Then charge em a nice big FAT bill for wasting the courts time.
  6. if your really desperate to stop the itching. There is something you can do but it wont last for long is oragel the area. Sometimes my toes itch (Diabetic neurapthy SP?) and I use oragel to numb them. It doesnt last long and wont work on anything below the skin surface. but for me it lets get to sleep. Last time i got stress hives the doc gave me a perscription (oral) to make them go away but they still itched like mad so I used oragel on them.
  7. I agree with Kat you might suggest to your parents to come here and READ not just skim a couple of posts. Explain to them that you are serious and you want them to be as well informed as you are. If they get informed and see here just how many people have had successful lapbands. They MIGHT change their attitudes. I guess I am lucky my family is super supportive. And my sister in law is considering it herself now. Her daughter had the bypass and is NOT happy with it. She got pregnant soon after she had her bypass and has never been able to get much weight loss at all with it. And now she's considering the band.

    Help! Halloween started early!

why not buy some sugar free or more healthy things to put in it. Werthers now makes sugar free candy as do several other companys. It might not be specialy colored or halloween themed but its candy so it fits.!! or buy your self some to keep at your desk & have an occasional piece. I find if Im out for the day and I put and exact # in my pocket. And put up the bag. It keeps me from doing the whole *OMG I ate the whole bag* thing. You can also have a family member help you out by holding your stash. I love the werthers sugar free. One of those can last a half hour or more if you resist the temptation to crunch it. And keeps me away from the other sweets.
  9. possibly and allergy to the adhesive on the steri strips/tape. I know after I became diabetic Soon after I started having very sensitive skin and now just about any adhesive breaks my skin out. I usally get all the adhesive off with alcohol then put cortisone cream on it.
  10. Did you do a sleep study -- Yes several now: Diagnosed 12 years ago when hospitalized at my sons birth. Do you have sleep apnea -- Yes Has weight loss helped with the sleep apnea -- Yes. I know over the years as I have done the yo-yo dieting. My apnea went right along with it. Becoming better at lower weights and worse with higher weights. hopefully after the band and off the yo yo I wont need the CPAP anymore. Did your surgeon require this -- dunno not got my approval yet. Do you like the cpap machine, if you have one -- YES!!!!!!!! It's my best friend. lol I cannot sleep at all without it. If I travel it travels. And after the last couple winters.. Where we have had power outages that have lasted for 1 day to up to a week. I even have a spare car battery, adapter so I can sleep! or go camping if need be. lol Are they expensive -- oh yea 1500.00 up 3000.00 But you can sometimes get them used (online) and insurance usually covers most of it. And Some companies will rent them to you. Or used to. Did you feel more rested after using a cpap -- Oh yes, I was lucky I took to the machine instantly. And loved the change it made. But I had went so long undiagnosed that my short term memory was affected. Badly. A interesting note. Both my ex-husband and my current boyfriend (7years! Woot) were just as addicted to the machine as I am lol. Why? White noise. Blocks out 90% of the little annoying sounds that can keep you awake. So if he needs to sleep and I am not in bed. The Machine is on anyhow. My machine: :whoo: REMstar® Pro M Series with C-Flex™, Respironics

    chest pain/heartburn?

heartburn does just that, burns a bit. Even if your on all liquids you can still get heartburn. I get it from drinking orange juice and lemonaide or tomato juice. the description of pain sounds like something stuck. Maybe gulping liquids? But if its happening when your not eating or when your laying down. As swollen as you probably are it could just be that. You might wanna call your doctor just to be safe. Its better to call them with *Might be something wrong* and let them advise you then to sit and suffer needlessly.
  13. One thing Ive noticed is allot of doctors don't seem to take sleep apnea seriously. I was diagnosed with severe apnea 12 years ago. And I've lived with my machine (3 now actually) Ever since. And after I was diagnosed at IU Med center. I came home and my family doctor had NO CLUE about apnea and was at least wise enough to contact the Med center and get educated. I have had to change doctors 6 times in the last 5 years cause none of them ever took my sleep apnea seriously. I would ask to get retested. And they would blow me off. Sad part is I ended up having to adjust my own machine as my weight fluctuated. Anyhow I haven't been banded yet but ive had a couple surgerys and several hosptial stays since and they ALWAYS make me bring in my own machine/mask etc. Most times they will get you a new mask/tubbing but they don't keep tons of apnea machines handy. And often people have a hard time adjusting to a new machine. surgerys. my appendix they put me on my cpap the moment I was put into recovery. I woke up with it on. When I had my c-section I was awake (Epidiural SP?) They had it beside me in recovery but I didn't need it since I was awake the whole time. But it was there if felt sleepy. Since yours is mild they may or may not want you to bring it with. During the surgery they will probably tube you and you wont need it then. So ask your doctor about it. And i gotta say I HATE sleep tests. the stuff they attach the leads with on your head can take up to a week to wash out. And My skin breaks out under the leads they place everywhere else. And then it takes a day or two to get the adhesive off my skin. The last one they wanted me in at 8pm! Which is a serious problem for me since I go to bed at 7AM and get up at 4PM .. LOL. :tired But honestly As long as It kept me sleeping well. I'd put up with a study 4 times a year if I had to. Simply cause when I'm sleep deprived or not sleeping well I am totally miserable and sick:sick

    having a little doubt

I have to admit my family's previous experiences with WLS affected my decision for the band, the 4 that are still alive all of them are still doing the yo yo dieting thing after the bypass. The didn't really make the healthy eating changes the band kind of forces on you. My mom had the worst side effects of all with serious malnutrition and has lost teeth and has to be on 4 perscriptions alone just for her stomach. Which seemed to just totally go nuts. Acid reducers, relaxants. She has to take like 20 different medications/suppliments and she still lost several teeth. Looks sallow and sick, dark circles under eyes. Has had several bouts of hair loss. While not everyone has these things, I ain't gonna risk it. Not when theres a better alternative. big deal It will take me longer to lose the weight. I may not need plastic surgery to remove all the flab. And 5-10 years down the line I will not be doing the diet yo yo thing all over again. Because I will have learned to eat better. And use my band as a tool not a quick fix. good luck
  15. if you don't have one maybe invest in a sewing machine, anything can be taken in a bit with out tons of sewing experience. Try the goodwill/consignment store instead of full priced shops. Or check the yellow pages for seamstresses with tailoring/fitting services which can be allot cheaper then buying new stuff. With consignment you can sometimes just trade in your clothes that don't fit for stuff that fits you better.
  16. heres where I am trying to get my surgery done. Bariatric Weight Loss Center of Excellence I've read some good reviews about them and they aren't far from Indy. Heck its closer for me then Indianapolis is.
  17. If you can find another doctor. Please. My mom lost her first 100lbs (she was 350+) and never really lost anymore, has major stomach issues now that require her to be on 5-6 stomach medications for the rest of her life & severe malnutrition. Major hair loss that has never fully recovered. And has lost about a third her teeth now. At 40 years old she looks 60. And she is still overweight and struggling with it. My uncle ended up being huge (400+)despite 2-3 WLS surgerys and passed away in his 50's. And was probably 500+ when he died. 2 aunts who did a bit better, lost most of their weight but still do the diet yoyo thing 4-5 years later. But never did hit their goals. One cousin who had it done and hasn't reached her goals yet. And over the 2 years I've known her hasn't lost or gained a whole lot. Is still at least 50lbs overweight. It is so sad that doctors today think we all idiots and cant make our own decisions. What it all boils down to is what you want. If you have done the research and made up your mind then stick with your guns. remind your doctor that if you have the band and it doesn't work out then you can always have a bypass. But you can't get back the organ pieces they take out.
  18. If the doctor says you need it. Then you need it. As a suffer from apnea that went undiagnosed for 2-3 years. It has other side effects that weren't listed on that page. Like loss of short term memory. If you have apnea your brain can get oxygen starved. Going for 2-3 years before getting it diagnosed and treated damaged my short term memory. Once I get my band and lose the weight I wonder how I will handle NOT having the machine. Ive worn it for 13 years now and can not sleep without it. If your having troubles with it there are things you can do to adjust. Try different masks, the medical goods companys have tons of different masks from ones that cover the mouth and nose to nasal pillows that fit inside your nostrils. And hundreds inbetween. If your having troubles ask them for a different model/make/type. Getting used to wearing it may take time. Start off with naps, or try wearing it while listening to the radio, tv, etc while awake. Its also important not to tighten it to much. Over tightening can be just as bad as it being to lose. And can leak horribly if to tight. They did something this last year to the mask I use cause when I had to have it replaced It broke me out. So they must have changed gel types or something. So I tried a couple more till I got one that works. And since i have super oily skin I trace and cut out a layer of moleskin that is what actually touches my skin. And change it weekly. Makes it MUCH more comfortable. but by not using it your your increasing your risk of stroke, heart attack, mood swings, high blood pressure and more.

    makeup on surgery day?

I would say wear it then wash it off right before hand. for the simple fact that its probably gonna look worse if you leave it on during surgery then if you had a clean face. cause your gonna have a tube and or mask and taped eyes that is liable to smear your makeup all over. Which to me would be worse then having none on at all. But I guess it all comes down to you and what your doctor decides if its an issue with you. Talk to the doctor about it.
  20. If he has made comments that you'd leave him after you got thin It sounds like subconciously he may be trying to sabotage you without really meaning to. Sounds like hes affraid of the changes you may have as you reach your goal. I heart to heart is a really good thing to have with him. Sounds like he needs reassurances that you wont *run off* after you lose weight. Besides often after we've been in relationships a long time we forget to have those heart to heart talks very often. And our guys sometimes need them just as much as us women.

It's Offical I'm off my Meds

Congrats!!! Oh I'm jealous now LOL Me sitting here with my 14 yes 14 pills I have to take every morning for many of the same things. (5 being vitamin or other supliments).
  22. oh gosh I cant help but comment cause In my own family there have been 5 people who have had bypass surgerys and none yet (Im waiting to get approved) with the band and all of them are not what could be called success stories. My mom lost her first 100lbs and never really lost anymore, has major stomach issues now and malnutrition. Still overweight and struggling with it. My uncle ended up being huge (400+)despite 2-3 WLSurgerys and passed away in his 50's. 2 aunts who did a bit better lost most of their weight but still do the diet yoyo 4-5 years later. One cousin who had it done and hasn't reached her goals yet. And over the 2 years i've known her hasn't lost or gained a whole lot. Is still at least 50lbs overweight When it comes to so called *Statistics* In our age of computers and internet you can find *Statistics* to back up just about anything you can imagine within reason. And that many a time the people in the studies often times only participate for the money or chance for free health care during the study. So they aren't always serious about about what ever it is the study involves. The facts from *Real* people on this site for me holds WAY more truth in my eyes. Then any so called study. And if you read enough of the forum you'll see for yourself that IT IS POSSIBLE. To lose ALL the weight you want to. But its YOU who has to make it happen. If the band is what you want don't let your doctor talk you out of it. If he/she cant accept that you've made a decision then find another doctor. Get a second opinion if you need to. its ghastly to me that so many doctors try to push bypass instead of the band. Cause at least the band is removable If to many problems occur. Bypass isn't they can't put back what they took out. I look at my mom with missing teeth and sunken eyes from the malnutrition she has been fighting for years and wish I could strangle whoever came up with the idea of the bypass.

    How do you puree?

if its a food that is canned or packed in liquid you can probably drain alot of it off. But I would save it just in case you do need to add it. A couple tablespoons of liquids can really help if its a dry food. I went through this with my kids as I resisted buying canned baby foods as much as possible. I found that If i kept on hand a can of broth in a plastic container in the fridge Adding a bit to dry meats did the trick. Or a spoonfull of lemon, lime, fat free miracle whip or mayo, even ranch dressing or cheese soup depending on the food.
  24. Oh yea I forgot. Good Luck! And heres for you a quick recovery :car::whoo:
  25. Talk to the nurse and tell them your concern if you cant/wont/don't have tampons there are other alternatives. If its a really light flow they might just tell you not to worry about it and put an extra tucks pad under you for the duration of the surgery/recovery. Or even a pad with the old belt like they used to have before adhesives is what they did with me for my appendix surgery. but that was in 2003 no clue if they still get those. lol
