Whirling mind causes me allot of lost sleep at times as does high stress moments I have found that playing something simple but repeatative helps tremendously. So I play spider solitare or bejeweld (tetris type) or Majhongg on the computer which settles my wandering mind and allows me to slow down enough to sleep or just calm down. Add headphones with my favorite music and I'm set.

Help (may be TMI for some of you) P.S. not a rant or rave, just off-topic
Telecia replied to j_war06's topic in Rants & Raves
I had that also during all of my pregnancys over the years. And my ex was one of the types who are scared to have sex during a pregnancy. Despite the Doc assuring him it was ok. Even now when my youngest is 12 the week of my period is when I get this now. lol. Had my tubes tied when he was born as he was 3# and had problems due to my weight and undiagnosed sleep apnea. Thank god my other half now isn't afraid of a little blood or I would be totally miserable. But still because my skin is soooooooooo sensitive now and breaks down so easy despite taking precautions. If we do much in a short period of time I end up recovering for 2 weeks or more. =/. I'm praying that will change as I lose more weight. -
Need HELP gaining Husband's support!
Telecia replied to minerals13's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I haven't been banded yet but maybe he doesn't totally understand the whole diet thing? Sure probably everyone on this board has dieted in the past but those were temporary SHORT fixes. What happens?? We fall off the diet wagon cause something tempts us or we get tired of only eating <insert your choice here> Or any of the thousands of other reasons we stop our diets. Then we gain it all back and some more to boot. Its not quite like being a smoker or alcoholic where you can pretty much avoid it. Heavens sake its food we have to have it to live. Unlike most of the diets the band is a long term tool. It doesn't replace anything. You may not be able to eat everything you want to but most can just in WAY SMALLER portions. Its still up to you to eat right though. But its gotta be way easier to recover from a binge or falter of 1 cup of food or less then when not having the band. I know my other half didn't like the idea of surgery. But he's seen what its like in a way. We tend to argue allot somedays because even though he's just barely overweight he can't avoid the candy/sweets even though hes diabetic. And he works at walgreens so he's around it all day long. And he cannot resist the temptation to buy that candy bar or candy. And i'm not there to tell him no. (candy I can avoid my problem is carbs) lol But after having him read more about the band hes now behind me 100% to get it. And is making a better effort to knock off the sweets for himself. And eat better right beside me. Suggest he come here to the boards and read and research with you. Maybe if understands more he will be more supportive. -
Some ideas. Being color deficient there are a few things I can think of. Like painting christmas ornaments for use on your tree to put on gifts. The bottles or tubes of paint are usually well marked also, you can get unpainted ornaments in porceline, plastic wood etc. And they don't require you to be be an expert. I used to do these allot and most everyone loved them. And if you can find ones that hold photos or that you can personalize in some way people adore them even more. Plastic canvas is another option. As long as you stay away from kits. Yarn skeins usually have the color marked on them and you don't have to get complex. The are easier and faster to do then embroidery/needle point. And you can make tons of household things out of the stuff. From coasters in simple patterns and colors for holidays or to match decors. to kelenex box covers, toilet roll covers, fridge magnets, photo xmas ornaments, trinket boxes, piggy banks, baskets, book covers and so much more. ummm I'm gonna have to hit the craft section of walmart now and see what I wanna do this year. lol

Should Pets be more than Property?
Telecia replied to Tired_Old_Man's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Having lost a pet recently this thread hit home with me. When the recall was issued I followed it closely because we fed our cats the walmart brand cat food that was on the recall list. Of course I immediatly threw it all away and changed to a brand that wasn't on the list. And started watching closely for any signs of our babys being ill. about a month or so after the recall as my SO got up to go to work our oldest cat Tommy(7 yr old male) was vomiting and dry heaving really badly:sick. So my SO crated him and took him to the vet. Where they proceded to run tests. they gave him a shot for the vomiting and us instructions on what to do for him as we waited 2 days for the results to come back. He stoped vomiting but refused to eat or drink, vets said not to feed but encourage liquids till the test results came back. well the poor guy just layed around never leaving our bed room except to use the litter box and began running a fever, on day 2. When I called the vet (at 8 am)to tell them about it they said they had the test results and to bring him in IMMEDIATLY. Buy 11am they had him in surgery and at 11:20 we had the bad news. He wasn't treatable/savable. He had cancer of his large intestine and it was so badly necrofied (80% of his large intestine) that it had ruptured and was spilling its contents into his abdominal cavity. Even now 3 months later typing this I am having another tearfull spell:cry. Our whole family was devistated of course especially my 12 year old son who Tommy slept with every night. After 7 years he WAS a member of the family. We had gotten him from a neighbor as a kitten and despite being a normal aloof cat most of the time we loved him dearly. I do think the laws need to be changed to address that pets to allot of people are more then property. And that some people do view them as possessions. But at the same time The aren't quite the same as having kids. Tommy is larger one and Butterscotch is the smaller female. She now wanders the hall in the house mewing pitiously sometimes missing her companion. -
Indiana does or at least large portions of it. Do have to do daylight saving time as of last year. And I hate it. I have a horrid memory for when to change the clocks.

Sick, warped, twisted, mental and probably 100 other words that would fit this guy. How is it in this day and age a certified nutcase like this isn't in a padded room somewhere? -
My sentiments exactly! And its what I tell my daughter when she came home exclaiming so and so is gay!! "Ok is this a person you are interested on having sex with?" My Emo daughter: MOM!!! You just dont understand! "Well if your not going to have sex with them what does it matter to you what their preferences are?" My Emo daughter:I I but...I... your so lame! *door slam* Ahh but how many other books have been disallowed in the school systems of America over different but similar differences. Mark Twains Huckleberry Finn is a good example. Because someone came up with the idea that because slavery was a part of the story it was offensive and racist. Which granted it was. But its also part of our history that is important that our children learn was wrong and that is why its not longer allowed. I used to know several other so called *classics* that have been removed. But Ive been up now for 30+ hours and cant think straight. ROFLMAO And Wheetsin LOL that one's good. Oh man I really gotta learn NOT to drink when in the rants and raves section. Or just buy my keyboard a condom. To protect it against the orange Water (whylers on the go stuff) That flew out my nose from laughing so hard.

Surgery in less than a week and I'm sick
Telecia replied to hungryforchange's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
call your surgeon and ask. Since you still got a few days he/she may perscribe or tell you to go to your personal doc to get something for the cough. You may be on your way over the cold by the time surgery comes up even. But theres no reason for you to be miserable going into surgery if your doctors can do something about it. As for what the surgeon will say. Everyones different, some wont be to concerned about it others will. So its best to call and be on the cautious side. -
medic alert jewlery in just about any form: necklaces, earrings, rings, pins, etc. I would get the card for my wallet, a couple of the necklasses and put the charm part like kacee mentioned on your purse. Or one on your coat/jacket zipper, lapel. The options are endless. And if your jogging or something where you don't have a purse or fannypack on you. Ive attached one on my ponytail holder for my hair. I also keep one on my keychain. cause you never know where you will be when you need one and I frequently am out of the house with nothing but my keys and ciggarette case (Which i hope to lose soon after surgery also)

Exactly what I meant. I think in my lifetime I have met only one gay person out of many including my own brother and ex, that could even start to fit the so called stereotype and I met that one in my interior design class lol.

As an avid follower of the harry potter series and my kids also, I think its great that theres a bit of controversy to the whole story. And that Rowling is continuing to give us a bit of a followup to the story. And I think its rather cool that Dumbledore was gay. And I appreciate that it wasn't thrown at at us in a blatent way like so many other medias have done. As for about the people that are freaking out about it and wanting to ban the books. I would really love to shoot those kinds of people. We are suposed to live in a free country with the right to freedom of speech and expression. And banning books over some of the paltry things they have is just silly. Especially since just about anything done/created/spoken can and will offend someone somewhere. It should be up to the parents to decide what books they want their kids to read. Not someone else.

Being one of the family members that needs bailed out from time to time. I find it downright disrespectfull that they don't even try to pay you back for your help. I know every time I have ever had to have someone help me out I have payed them back every time even if it is 10-20 bucks at time. Simply because. One. If you need help again the person will be WAY more likely to help you out. And two if I was the one loaning/helping I would expect some kind of payback even if it was free babysitting /cooking/cleaning/whatever if they couldn't do it with $$.. But I was always raised with the thought to NEVER mix business with family/friends. Also I tend to let people take advantage of me to easily. I have been working on this for years now cause I have always been to quick to take in a needy friend/loan money/babysit etc. when a friend or family member needed it. But after to many abuses. Like 900$ in phone sex line calls that someone I allowed to live with me for a month. Or a 600$ pay per view movie bill. I just learned how to say NO much faster now. Because I am disabled and can't handle those kinds of problems on a fixed income.

My nurse made me feel like a failure and a PIG
Telecia replied to kbear's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would tell your doctor about how the nurse treated you over such a minor thing. As she is representing his office in her actions. I agree with Sdaviscs And after all we go to the doctor for advice help and support in our problems and she didn't give any of that with her negative attitude over 2 lbs. I mean geeze a difference in outfits can cause you 2-3 pounds. -
Don't know how normal is since I haven't been banded yet. But I do know orange urine is not a good thing. Urine should be a very light yellow/clear color unless your taking meds that affect its color. Yea definatly call the doc in the morning. It might be a pulled muscle but it might be a infection or something too.
-
honestly I think the bypass is a easy way out. Or at least thats how its portrayed to be. And I guess I can see it in drastic cases. But still even in a drastic case you might lose hundreds of pounds in the first year or two but then eventually you end up on the yo-yo string again. Right where you started. So in the long run how productive is it? What has changed? We must be different in our thinking then allot of people I guess. I would much rather lose it slower, have a better chance of reaching my goal. And learn better habits. And keep it off in the long run. Then to lose it fast and then have to go searching for another quick fix 3-5 years later. I think allot of it comes down to people today not wanting to take responsiblity for their actions. We live in a fix it quick society and people think that it can apply to weight loss also. Its obvious that the band can be a excellent tool for getting people back on track to more healthy eating/excersise. All the success stories here and in other forums show that. But just like anything else in life. Any addiction. True change can't happen till *YOU* Want it to change. And no one will do it for you.

Your assistance is needed, Dr. Freud...(warning XXX Content)
Telecia replied to DerickM's topic in Rants & Raves
I cant speak for myself cause its a rare thing for me to remember any kind of dreams at all. But I do know my boyfriend has some pretty odd ones. Lots of sex and really odd out of the way places, situations etc. And a few phobias tossed in also. heck he tells me about freaky dreams twice a week or so. Sometimes more. And they can get pretty twisted. I think. (MY opinion here and i'm no expert) That people who are more creative then average tend to have seriously strange dreams. Because in our dreams the subconcious mind doesn't have to follow all the rules/taboos/manners that we have to live by/follow in real life. -
It is amazing to see what stores have out for kids now. My daughter is 15 now but it has started with her at 11-12. she WANTED those kinds of clothes. And makeup. And many times She got punished for *ripping* or altering her clothing. But then she started gaining weight. So now its not as much a issue, cause shes to embarrased to wear the revealing stuff. But now she wants to go slouch/goth and its just as annoying. She WANTS to walk on pant legs so they get ragged. She does the underwear hanging out too with her pants way down around her hips. ugh!:omg: THANK HEAVENS this year the public school system here developed uniforms and all those things are punishable offences. Solid colored polo or oxford shirts. Slacks or dress pants proper fitted and not dragging the ground. Shirts must be tucked in. etc. It was a bit of a trick to find enough uniform type clothes at the start of the year But At least when she walks out the door she looks nice. But what got me most at 11 was her best friend coming over and was purposly dressing like a street walker you'd see in movies. And her parents were buying her this stuff!! Now they cant figure out why their darling little girl is know as the school slut and has been in the juvinial(SP?) Detention center a couple of times now.

I know when I came home from my appendix removal I was super sensitive to smells and sounds. I just assumed it was from being in environment that so clean that it gave my senses a break or something. kinda like how if you stay home allot then go out for the day and come home and wonder why walking past your kids room it smells like a gym locker

WASa is right it usually takes 3 weeks or MORE to treat a sinus infection, and alot of time MAY take more then one dose of medicines to get rid of it. Had a sinus infection once that took 4 different antibiotics to kill it. And every time the doctor perscribed a new antibiotic the time taking them got longer. The 4th perscription I had to take for like 4 weeks. Aparently this happens most with people who get lots of infections and take antibiotics often. I have one in my left ear that has not gone totally away in 3 years. Oh it gets better for a while then comes back so next step will be tubes. doc is affraid all the antibiotics will destroy my immune system. Doc says its rare to put tubes in a 39 year old. LOL

Name one thing people would be surprised to know about you
Telecia replied to Sunta's topic in The Lounge
Things people are shocked when they learn about me: My mother died when I was 2. I was a wild child in school, drugs alcohol you name it. To the point of being put in a foster program for troubled kids. ( I wised up thanks to a terrific foster mom and heavy counciling) I was physically/mentally/sexually abused as a child. (terrific foster mom and heavy counciling helped this too) I was outgoing to the extreem till I married my ex and became a mother. When I was young I roller skated in figure competions till tearing up my ankle seriously At 13. I also played basketball, softball, field hockey and played the acordian. (people cant believe it when they look at me being 400lbs.) I grew up on the east coast so when I moved to indiana at the age of 15 NOONE knew how to take the gal who lived on roller skates or 4 in. heels, had spikey odd colored hair(red, blue, green depending on mood) and outrageous clothes, in corn country! When spirit day came in highschool everone awaited to see what outrageous red, white 7 blue combos I could come up with. One time I even knitted my own tie/headband combo for a spirit day. lol My knickname as a teen was AMAZON. Being 5'10 and always wearing either skates or 4 in heels I towered over everone else. I collect masks, like the tradgey/comedy masks of all shapes sizes and types. From ones that hang on the wall to onces your suposed to wear. And unicorns and dragons. I met the love of my life my shining prince online! I am a Rocky Horror addict I know the whole movie by heart!! And I watch at at least once a year or more around this time of year. I have always wanted to go to a live one but never got the chance. OMG tim curry in it is so HOT!! Reading the ending of harry potter 7 I bawled my eyes out and put a hole in the wall throwing the book. lol. Then reread the book 3 more times. My star crush is steve tyler from aerosmith who ive seen in concert 4 times now. -
Boy I can only wish my daughter would even consider any kind of weight loss at all seriously. But she wont. And at 15 is 250lbs. Shes watched me struggle with it all her life. But for herself she acts like she dont care. But ocassionally when shes in one of her rare talk to mom moods. It does bother her some. But shes extreemly immature about it. Example at home I have stoped buying white carbs for the most part. And substituted vegitables where we used to eat alot of carbs. And boy does she give me hell about that. I still do buy her ramen and mashed potatoes and mac n cheese etc. but not in bulk anymore. So she cant live on several meals a day of carbs. Now she looks in the fridge/cabnits and has small hissy fits cause what she wants isn't there. I never have been one for buying junk. My kids getting chips or sodas Cookies etc. have always been ocassional treats. But I found out when she goes on her overnighters at friends houses shes living on junk food and taco bell. And when I make meals half the time she eats the meat and tosses the veggies into the garbage disposal. Then off to her room in huff and half an hour later shes in the kitchen making ramen. =/ So I am hoping that once i get the band and she sees the changes. That she might start considering at least eating better. If not losing weight. Heh and she gets so pissed when she comes to me about things shes starting to experience like thigh rubbing burns. That I tell her she has to get used to it and start dealing with it (describing what I do) or lose weight. But shes super rebelious and into the whole goth/emo thing. So anything I say is automaticly WRONG. With a capitol w. I know that in her present state of mind she would never be able to handle a band properly. So its refreshing to hear of kids that age who are at least considering it. And discusing/learning more about it.

Cool more hoosiers! :whoo: Anderson here. Dying city inc. man I've been waiting for 2 months for my doc to let me know which surgeon/center I can go to. Whole insurance requires my personal do to make the referrals and I think she's dragging her feet. She was suposed to set it up at St.vincent's in carmel at the bariatric center. I even submitted a application to them also and haven't heard back yet. But I've heard good things about the bariatric center. And since my doc is the whole St.vincents network I didn't think it would take this long. lol

Easy tell him if he drops the whole stupid idea you wont sue him for the 4000$ vets bill. Dunno about your city but ours has laws against outdoor cats. If you have a cat and its outside they can and just might haul it to the pound. No matter if its collared/ID'd or what.

Mine is Batz Only one word instead of 2. And actually describes how I feel somedays. LOL
