    Rediculous School Rules

I can believe it about the legos because years (like 5? I think) ago my oldest son made a paper gun and got suspended for it. Cause he pointed it someone. And I know for a fact that here the schools responsible for the child till they get to your door. In our apartment complex the kids all have to walk up to the clubhouse to catch the bus. And my youngest was the target of a bully. Who would attack him after they got off the bus out of sight of the bus, And the principal told me that the school has jurisdiction till he touches the doorknob to come inside. yea our schools have ridiculous rules but they have had to resort to this thanks to people being so quick to sue the school systems.

    I'm mad at australians...

Loved Midnight Oil in the 80's, didn't realize they were still making music. Something new to look up!! Yea!! Damn sometimes being in the USA we can be so sheltered from some really good talent. Ticks me off. I'm mostly into Europop/dance/trance/club kind of stuff which is REALLY hard to keep up on in the midwest where all your radio stations are country or rap. One of my favorite bands atm is from Sweden is E-type E-type - official website If it wasn't for the internet I would musicly starve to death.

    Spanking

It is the automatic assumption that punishment is done out of anger that one of the reasons the lawmakers need to stay out of normal people lives. Punishment is not about making yourself feel better its about teaching the child its not ok to do something. And if its something you have punished the child before for and you've exhausted all other possibilities. Then its your final option. I can't speak for anyone else but for myself if I am angry at something one of my kids has done they get to sit in their room till I'm calm enough to deal with it. And usually waited for my other half to get home and we both decide on punishment. Not to even mention I don't get mad easily in the first place. It takes allot for me to get mad. It shouldn't be a common punishment for every little thing. But there are generations of people raised this way and the biggest portion of them are well adjusted people. As long as its not done in anger, does not leave marks, and not used callously I don't have a problem with it. I didn't grow up with my parents and my aunt used switches, belts and her favorite item was her dr.scholls exercise sandals. (wood) and ALWAYS left marks. Now thats what I call abuse.

    Spanking

LOL love that idea. I normally use chores for when they get in trouble at school. my oldest used to constantly get detentions etc for mouthing off to his computer teacher. The computer teacher was about 10 years outta date and of course my teenage son was totally up to date with ALL things computer related. So anytime he would *correct* his teacher he got detention and I got household chores I hated doing done. My favorite one is floors and they can't use a mob. Nope good old fashioned scrubbrush and sponge and bucket!! lol Now that he h as moved out its my daughters turn shes really bad sometimes about being late getting home by half and hour to an hour sometimes. Maybe I should add a new chore every 15 minutes late. *Ponders*
  6. OMG those were some of the best shows.. H&R Puffenstuff was one of my favorites. And Land of the lost. Schoolhouse rock!!! or my alltime favorite the MONKEES! And while occasionally while playing word of warcraft I will comment about "Sshhhhhhhhh be berry berry quiet I'm huntin waskally wabbits!" In the guild chat. I can't see where any of the tv watched as a child has prompted me to do anything other then laugh. Other then the constant exposure to sugar/candy/cereal adds contributing to a weight problem. I think there is such a thing as to much sheltering of kids also. Now while i have banned the grand theft auto series of games from our house. Censoring sesame street is just ............................. to much!

    Spanking

I think the lawmakers need to stay out of our homes period unless something warrents attention like signs of abuse. If we keep allowing all these laws to take away our own decision making processes then eventually we will have no RIGHTS at all. I gotta admit I do believe in spanking as long as its NOT abuse. But it should be as a last resort or in response to something that seriously threatens the childs safety. When mine were little we didn't bother with a swat on the butt, diapers and all. But I found a smack on the hand was often the best way to prevent a child from reaching at something dangerous. I also have found some really interesting methods over the years to punish the kids. Like jogging in the corner for 5 min and if they mouthed off adding another minute for each offense. Or just standing in the corner and adding jogging if they mouthed off. I think the MOST any of my 3 kids ever got was 9 minutes tops. My oldest would really carry on in anger for a while when he would get punished. There was no reasoning with him. And helped burn off the anger. Then after we could talk about it easier. But NO dicipline to kids can also be just as bad. My step mom rarely disiplined my brothers once her and dad split. And it has haunted her for the rest of her life. Her oldest (My brother is 4 years younger then me. the other 6 years) Had a ton of problems was rebelious and downright violent, drug user, alcholic and stole her blind, etc. and by the age of 14 had her living in total terror. He was even put in foster care for parental abuse at one point. Watching what my step mom went through in the years before I started having kids made me decide I was not gonna let that happen to me. But being abused myself as a child I didn't want that to happen to them either. So we settled on spanking only in very serious cases or as a last resort. And thankfully I haven't had to do it often. I actually had to have a all out fight with my oldest once. Only once. Which I regret in some ways simply because it happend. But also he got physical and had to learn I was NOT gonna tollerate it. He actually came to me a few days later and was like "Wow mom I'm sorry I hit you. I never dreamed you'd hit me back!!" and laughing then he told me he'd send his friends home to get their asses kicked when they needed it. He grew up allot then (he was 17 at the time and no one had any marks afterward). And told me he appreciated it that I had always tried to avoid spanking him if I could. Now he's on his 3rd year of being out on his own and still calls home several times a week, is always calling, IM'ing etc. for bits of advice and just to chat. And working on getting a job closer to home so he can spend more time with us. I'm rather proud of him :girl_hug: Atm he is gotta nasty cold and calling home ALLOT! lol. Sorry to ramble but I guess what I mean is every situation is different. And each child is different. And it should be left up to the parent/family to figure out what's best for our kids and not someone else who doesn't know them or care for them the way a parent does. As for real abusers I have some mixed feelings here. Sometimes I think a jail term is just to tame for some of these sick people. Yet putting them to death isn't a true punishment either. ( I see death sentances as a cop out out of sorts). And it's infuriating to know that many real abusers are out there that don't get caught till its to late for the child.

    crazy pets

Right now Butterscotch is our only cat. We lost one 3-4 months ago who was 7 a male longhair named Tommy, he died of colon cancer. But butterscotch who actually answers better to Kitten is the queen of our house. We picked her up as a stray 3 years ago outside a convient store. I don't own my boyfriend she DOES!! lol When he is home she sleeps/stays wherever he is 95% of the time. Her favorite toy. Never the cats toys you can buy her... no not kitten, her favorite toy is a string of fake pearls, she loves the feeling of the little beads zipping through her paws. For the most part shes a good cat. But she has a few strange habits. You CANNOT make a bed with her in the room for she will dive under the sheet/blanket as you snap them over the mattress and want to play. She frequently attacks one corner of the bed and one arm of the couch pouncing and scrambling. If the bottom sheet over the mattress gets slack on the side of the bed she will crawl up under the edge of the sheet to play. She's good though in when she plays with us she is carefull not to use her claws for the most part. But my BF trained her to jump up to him on command and on occasion when she feels he isn't paying enough attention to him she will jump up on his back!! (Don't do that very often cause she hates him being mad at her). Cutest quirky thing she is doing lately is my daughter has this current hairstyle of the back of her hair is very short and she spikes the whole back up. (front is in pageboy type cut) and when she sits on the couch Kitten will get up behind her and play with her hair. lol. Rearing up to bat at it and rubbing all over it. Really aggrivates my daughter for messing up her hair. hehe. She's a window hog though. And seems to enjoy waking us up buy slipping past the curtains & blinds to sit on the sill and holding the side of the curtain open to wake us up. She can't stand for us to have the bedroom door closed. We had to start putting her out of the room when ever we got intimate cause she would without fail sit at the door and howl, one of us get up and let her out and 3-5 minutes later be back at the door banging and howling to get back in only to want out again a few moments later. So now she gets to sit outside the door till we are ready to let her back in. She can be a real stinker but we love her anyhow.
  9. Well now they can grow skin in labs so It might or might not be true. It takes time to grow the substitute skin. Shouldn't be hard to call a nearby burn unit and ask though.

    Insomnia SUCKS!

I always get insomnia when it happens to be the worst time to get it. Like having a early morning appointment. My mind starts going and I just can't sleep or I get the creepy leg thing where I can't be still. Or I have nerve damage in one foot due to diabetes that sometimes burns/itches so bad I can't sleep. I have found OTC sleep aids don't do me any good. As for sleep patterns being weight related. Wouldn't suprise me at all I mean its proven that weight affects hormone levels for all sorts of things like our periods. And since sleep is affected by various chemicals in our body it would make sense. Lack Of Sleep Alters Hormones, Metabolism, Simulates Effects Of Aging Some links to interesting reading regarding the subject.

    Holiday blues

Bleh. I don't want to cook, clean, bend over backwards to cook a huge meal. So I'm not. Going to the big family dinner is gonna be It for me this week. This way I only have to make a couple of dishes, someone else can bust their ass to clean their house and run 20 dishwasher loads afterwards and beg borrow and steal chairs & tables silverwear etc. But it seems as the holiday blues has hit most of my family this year as we almost didn't have the huge dinner. Different work scheduals, people not able to get thanksgiving off. The cost of gas etc. and the fact that no one really wanted to have 50 people tromp through their house and have to clean up after it all. Also the fact that the traditional *family head couple* are now both in a nursing home really squashed the spirit of having the huge get togethers. Tons of the various cousins no longer even live in easy travel distance either so my SIL finally relented and said fine. She would hold it. Now tonight DH asked if I wanted him to get the x-mas decorations out and I told him no. o.O (for me this is a major change) I didn't think I would bother this year. I'm still debating it. Part of me wants to and part don't. Guess I will leave the decision up to my kids. But at least I'm making low fat, low carb, NO SUGAR dishes to take to the dinner since half the family are diabetics.

    Freaking Doctors

have you had any emergency room visits in that period of time that might have recorded weight? or visits to any specialists that might have weighed you for any reason? even records from programs for weight loss might work.
  14. I would think since theres a chance of damaging the band any frequent vomiting would be a good reason for your doc to perscribe meds to avoid this? Or suggest something over the counter maybe? Its a good question to ask your surgeon though for sure.
  15. Very understandable. And would be more stress free also should be less time consuming. With the wonderfull additions of sites like ebay and other sites like that. You can sell just about anything. A couple of places I buy from the most have both websites and ebay sales. But normally the ebay stuff is the limited edition kind of things but sometimes you can get em for really low prices. And they rarely have the same things on both sites.
  16. it's probably best to stay where you are and not chance being to tight someplace you don't have a doc handy. And I would also get your doc to write up the unfill process or how to reach him for you in case you have to have it in case of emergency.
  17. After the stresses of the day later in the evening tends to be the emotional *Bad* part of the day. Your tired from being up moving around, dealing with people/kids/work whatever. Ever notice when you have a cold or flu that you usually feel best in the mornings? It's totally normal the late part of the day is also when many emotional eaters have the most *bad eating* times also. I've also been told by my kids pediatrition that body temperature also tends to be a tiny bit higher at night. Same as weight can be higher from water gain and your also shorter at night cause of the compression gravity has on your spine. Years ago I was treated for a case of exhaustion and one of the things my doc recomended to me was to make the hours after dinner and before bedtime more *Stress free* to avoid doing strenious things like major chores, billpaying etc in the evenings if at all possible. started giving my son his baths in the mornings instead of nights. Really helped with the major mood swings for me at least and stopped my need to toss n turn in bed for a hour fighting to get sleep.

Diabetic Peanut Butter Fudge Recipe #133579 a sweet treat for a diabetic by Northern_Reflectionz 16 servings time to make 10 min 5 min prep 2 ounces unsweetened chocolate 10 tablespoons half-and-half 1/2 cup peanut butter 1/2 teaspoon vanilla 16 teaspoons artificial sweetener 1/2 cup unsalted peanuts 1. In heavy saucepan, melt chocolate and half and half. Stir in peanut butter. 2. Remove from heat. 3. Add vanilla and artificial sweetener. 4. Fold peanuts into fudge. 5. Spread on a greased plate. 6. Chill. 7. Cut into pieces. ========================= ok when I made this I did the recipe times 4. AND CHANGED IT A BIT. original recipe is above and below is how I did it. ========================== 8.oz of unsweetened chocolate 13 1/2 Tablespoons half and half plus 1/2 a cup added when you add the peanut butter. 2 cups of chunky peanut butter 2 teaspoons vanilla extract 2 1/3 cup of Splenda I used a double cooker method for the chocolate which is just a metal mixing bowl over a pot of boiling water. And did not remove it from the heat till time to plate it. Chocolate and the 13 1/3 tblsp of half and half in double pan and melt stirring well and constantly. Reduce heat once every things melted to medium. Stir in the peanut butter the 1/2 cup half and half. Vanilla and sugar and stir well. Remove from heat and spread into a (I prefer glass) 9x13 pan greased with spray on pam. Butter could be used also. Refrigerate for at least an hour and then cut. I just put layers of wax paper in between the layers of fudge in the plastic container I used and had no melting/sticking problems at all even when it sat for 3+ hours at room temperature. But I don't recommend storing it at room temp due to the half and half content refrigeration is prefered. BF mentioned maybe dusting it with splenda also but I felt that would be a bit to much. I liked it not being super sweet.

    Customer Service is no more!!!

Well its thanks to the really abusive A$$hole types that the philosophy of the customer is always right has dropped by the wayside. People in general now tend to treat service type employees like crap totally forgetting the fact that even though they are being payed to be of some service of helping you doesn't give you the right to treat them like dirt. My BF has been a clerk running check out lines etc. in a few places from convient stores, grocery, wal-mart, adult shop, and now wal-greens. And out of his 18+years of working in this industry he says wal-greens has been the best when it comes to how customers treat employees.. Walmart and convience stores the worst. its just one of the many examples of how degridated overall our society is becoming socialy in the areas of respect and manners. I recently read and awesome book by a british writer about this subject. Have to dig out the book and get the name/author. It was a really insightfull book. And quite entertaining also.
  20. egg salad you can just mush really well with a fork or potatoe masher. but you can do fine with a average blender or food processor.
  21. yes call her and tell her that there will be additional charges and tell her what they most likely will be. Or at least what you will be service you will be charging her for, since she didn't provide a pattern or fabric. And make sure you record your gas milage and hours spent searching for the materials along with the materials. And if this is a common problem with your customers maybe make up a contract up of sorts explaining what the customer is responsible for providing and explaining if they dont provide the needed materials you will have to charge for milage and time spent shopping.

    Customer Service is no more!!!

Actually she was probably trying to save you time. My BF worked for walmart for 5 years. They have THE WORST practices I have ever seen or heard of towards their customers and employees. The deliberatly understaff their stores, force 1 employee often to cover for anywhere from 2-5 areas at a time then of course dicipline the employee if they cant get everything done in all of those areas. Its ridiculious. When it comes to a price check if it wasn't durring the 12pm -7am shelf stocking time (seems to be the only time each area has its own employee) slot. Calling for a price check would probably take half a hour or more because the employees are covering huge areas. My BF quit before ours changed to a supercenter. But we still have several friends who work there who say it hasn't changed at all and has gotten worse for the most part. Another reason I will LOVE losing enough weight to be able to shop at kmart or target. Cant shop at them now cause they all have electric carts with unmovable arms. I can't fit =/ so I'm forced to keep going to Walhell.

i need help..kicking the sugar habit!!!!

Cutting out carbs has cured alot of the cravings I used to get allot. But when I found out 4 years ago I was diabetic, sugar went out the door and I don't miss it all.. things I did 4 years ago to get rid of my sugar addiction. Don't buy it to begin with. If its there in your pantry/fridge etc. It calls to you I swear. lol. I stopped buying sugar/junk/pop, snacks etc. And replace with non sugared stuff. I do all my grocery shopping every 2 weeks (BF's paydays) make up lists beforehand and take just enough $$ to cover the grocerys. Make sure I eat before I go so theres no impulse buying. I avoid the candy/cookie Isles if I can. Although I don't need to anymore. Baked goods. I now have hundreds of sugar free alternative recipes now!! Some are incredible. I just took sugar free peanut butter chocolate fudge to thanksgiving and everyone loved it. Tastes just like recee(Sp?) cups. I switched from normal soda to diet then gave it up totally. Most of the time I now drink different teas made with splenda. BF drinks lemonaide with splenda, And occasionally make sugar free popsicles out of normal koolaid and splenda. Walgreens also carry these awesome carbonated 1liter waters we love too. They are splenda sweetened and in great flavors like orange creme, blueberry, rasberry etc. Instead of hitting the gas station for a fountain pop we stop at walgreens and get our water. I keep a Jar on my computer table of sugar free candies for the ocassional quick sweet craving. Suck on a sugar free cinnamon or lemon drop will kick the craving for me and my kids, this jar is about a month old now and still half full. My boyfriend works at wal-greens and about once a month brings home a new candy that companys are now making sugar free versions. We just refuse to buy anything in large bags anymore except splenda lol. So now we are currently working on getting my SIL OFF of chocolate shes addicted to the stuff BAD. And found out shes allergic to it.. But theres finally starting to be enough sugar free alternatives now that she actually likes pretty well. She loved the sugar free fudge too and wants the recipe now. hehehe
