I used it once and that first sip I had pain and I took the straw and threw it away.

I showered the day of surgery. I had my period and begged them. My husband had to come in and stayed in case I needed help. The shower had a seat too. The nurses offered to help but I was ok. I showered the 2days I was in. I had my it pole outside the shower but was still hooked up. I brushed my teeth daily I the hospital. I didn't have any complications and felt fine I had a lot of energy.

When did you start to work out and what did you do?
michellenc posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Hi I am 15 days out and walking around the neighborhood and doing quite a bit of mall walking. But I am wanting to get back into the gym. I see my Dr on Thursday so I will ask too. But I am curious when did you go back to the gym? I just want to walk on the treadmill, elliptical and bike. No weights for 6 weeks I was told. I want to work my way back up to running again and figure out the whole hydration thing while sipping and running. I think it might be hard. I am down 32 lbs but I want to get the ball rolling even faster and hope going back to the gym will help. Thanks, Michelle -
You are doing amazing! How exciting!

Would You Have Weight Loss Surgery Again?
michellenc replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am only 2 weeks and a few days out but YES I would do it again in a heart beat. Wish I did it years ago 12 years ago I looked into it. -
I heard it is a side affect of the weight loss it has a name for fast fat loss being burned. But I have gotten those listerine mouth melt things. That is what I use when it gets to me. I also find my teeth have more gook not sure how to describe it and I am constantly brushing my teeth. It just feels gross!

March 2013 Post Op "A New Life 2013"

I had surgery 3/18 - I am down 32 lbs. I find I don't lose if I don't get in my protein. I can't stand protein shakes anymore lord I can't wait for food. I did try mashed potatoes, ricotta cheese. That is all I have been brave enough to try. I am going to try Greek yogurt this afternoon. I am going back to the dr on Thursday for a check up. I have to say so far this has been a lot less scary vs what I thought it would be. I am getting scared to eat foods. My husband has to sit by me as I have the puréed foods. I am scared to get sick. I stayed in the hospital 2 days. I am sleeping on my sides, I didn't use pain meds past 1 day hated how they made me feel. I asked my husband did they just make tiny cuts on me and not do the surgery? He said no! I do get burly a lot when eating so that worries me so I am not even doing a fourth of a cup. It happens when I drink sometimes. I did try a straw mistakes after the first sip I said no way! It is amazing how we can feel things right away. I am glad I found this group! -
I was 300 lbs got to 240 doing this Mon a full cardio hard cardio too a class for a hour intense I did a hour after that on the treadmill Tues I did a cardio kick boxing class and a weight class body pump Wed I did a hour spin class cardio and a hour on the treadmill Thur same as Tues Fri same as Wed Sat same as Tues I will say the weight classes made the difference! I was in a 16 at 240 lbs and I am 5-2. The Weight lifting condenses your body. Muscle may weigh more but it is better to be toned and Fit vs flabby. My friend lost 150 lbs doing cardio until she neared a goal weight. She fought With the scale as we worked out like beasts but the scale wasn't moving much or going up Some. It will go up at first as your muscles tear from the work out and retain Water but that is Ok. You need to measure your body and not focus just on the scale. Excess skin will happen to some not everyone. But I would never suggest to hold off on Weight lifting and just doing cardio. Plus muscle burns fat I will take that added fat burner And a toned body any day. My mom swears by swimming for cardio too. Good luck!

Long duration exercise (1/2 marathons or marathons)
michellenc replied to dbig42's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I too ran a half 2 years ago. Here is what I was told one year out no way but the longer I wait the easier it would be to stay hydrated. The guy who is on another board is a iron man after RNY he said staying hydrated and finding nutritional things that work for you will be a challenge. He said some will make you dump. So it is all trial and error. I say work your way back up to that point and I see no reason why we can't do it and a full or heck a iron man one day too. I really think in our first year after it would be pushing it. But good luck! -

Your scared we are human that is what we do. But I think judging from all the post op people here that we will make it. My surgeon only takes people that will be a good statistic for him.....you will be fine. Your dr doesn't want to lose anyone he is who your trusting. Have faith and know we are cheering you on. -
