What Do You Tell People?
Sunflwr76 replied to buffalogal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just to add to my previous comment...if people say negative things to you/about you- you don't need them in your life! Look at it as a positive step your taking. It takes a lot of courage- do not be ashamed of it -
What Do You Tell People?

I also sent an email out to friends and family to let them know. In my opinion, you SHOULDN'T be ashamed of your decision. This was/is a MAJOR life changing event in your life, it was not an easy decision to make. Be proud of the fact you are taking charge of your life and giving yourself the opportunity for a better quality of life! Stand tall, keep your head high, you will be amazed once you start telling people just how many others have had the surgery! You will need all the support you can get- trust me I'm speaking from experience! Good luck and please remember be proud of your decision!! -
Really Maria- 3-4 months until your energy level was fully restored? Dear god I'm in for a long ride! It's been only 5 weeks post op and I'm already frustrated that I have no energy!

Thank you all for your suggestions. I actually just went to the dr last week and had all my blood levels checked. They all came back great! I was a little disappointed (as crazy as that seems) because this means there is no real answer to my energy issues other than just a result of the surgery. Oh well, I'll keep plugging away & hope I recover quickly!! -
I'm only 5 weeks postop, but I can't eat the amount they say you should be able to handle. Right now they say I should be able to have 1/2 cup of food. I'm lucky if I eat 2 bites of food. I feel extremely full and feel sick if I take an additional bite. Have you spoken to your doctor?

Jac88- if anyone puts you down they aren't a "true" friend and you certainly do not need them in your life! I agree when you say this surgery IS NOT A WAY OUT! It's huge and I don't think people fully understand what it takes to go through this major life style change! They are many ignorant people out there and unfortunately all they see is the weight loss not the struggles we all go through behind closed doors. Prayers are with you!! Best of luck on may 25th. Your determination is amazing and you'll be where you want to be very soon!

New Beginning In 2012

I agree you are all on your way to a much better quality of life. I'm 5 weeks postop and except for being exhausted all the time I have no regrets!! Good luck! Let us know how you all are doing! -
For me personally, I didn't want anything foreign in my body. There are to many risks with your body rejecting foreign objects. Plus from all the research I did, like everyone else said, the success rate with the RNY is so much better. Do your research, ask many questions and write down the pros & cons of each for yourself. Unfortunate noone can make the decision for you, but the more educated you are about each process whatever choice you make will be the right choice for you!! Good Luck!

I started right from day 1 taking 2 chewable multivitamins and 1 b12 vitamin daily. I am starting calcium caltrate today. That is all I was instructed to take. 6-8 weeks of this exhaustion? I'm not sure I can take any more of it! I begged my dr to let me go back to work after 4 weeks but am now regretting that decision:/. I come home from work & pass out hard for a good 2/3 hours! I just hate this feeling! I'm not one to sit around but lately I feel as though I have no choice my body just won't move! It is a hard adjustment and major life changing! I just hope and pray my energy will come back full force any day now! -
I wish you the best of luck and sending many prayers your way. I can only imagine how frustrating as well as uncomfortable this all is for you, but keep thinking positively! It's hard to I know, but in the end it will all be worth it! {HUGS}
