I'm glad this thread was started. I had surgery 5/9/05 and have lost between 12 to 15 lbs. I'm bouncing between 235-238. I got my third fill yesterday and I'm currently at 3.5 cc's in my 4 cc band. I'm hoping I don't run out of space in my band. It is discouraging, but on a positive note, if it weren't for the band I wouldn't have lost anything and would have gained more. My new name is P.T. "slow" Loser. LOL:) . Patty

Do you have your fill done in Radiology?
P.T. loser replied to lljpaisley's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have had only one fill so far and am going for my second on Wed. My dr. couldn't access my port when I went for my first fill. I had to have it done under flouro. Under flouro it showed my port is tilted. The dr. was able to press on my tummy and the port tilted upward and he was able to fill me. I'm having the second one under flouro also. I will probably continue my fills under flouro until I get proper restriction. I really prefer it since I've had one done already. I'm hoping it will get me to my "sweet spot" soon. Patty -
Very Dissappointed - What am I doing wrong?

Nothing. You just need more restriction. Here's my story: I was banded 5/9/05, starting weight 250, current weight 248. I have had one fill, and am going for my second one Wed. I now that I wiil not lose weight until I'm properly restricted. I know that it may take 3-5 fills before I hit my "sweet spot". I was truly hoping to be further along with my weight loss. Please don't feel to bad, it's all a part of the process. I know it's hard when you see others losing right out the gate. I've had days when I thought I don't think this is going to work for me. I'm hoping my fill Wed. will help. Wishing you the best! Patty -
Just wanted to add, I don't feel anything strange or have any pain. Patty

When I went for my first fill in June, my dr. couldn't access my port. I made an appt. to have it done under flouro. My port was tilted, the dr. giving me the fill was able to press on my tummy and it tilted upward so he was able to fill me. I go back next week for my second fill under flouro. I'm going to continue to have my fills done under flouro till I hit my "sweet spot". Patty

I'm so sorry for your loss. When I lost my dog it was one of the hardest things I've had to deal with. Wishing warm and comforting thoughts your way. Patty

The dr. couldn't find my port. I have to go and have it done under fluro. I wasn't happy, but I'm glad he didn't poke me to death either, after the 3rd try he stopped. It looks like the 1st week of July is when I'll get it done (Dr. is going on vacation). Oh,well I'll just have to wait. Patty

I was banded 5/9/05, everything went great as far as the surgery. I basicly have no restriction. I'm eating as I was before my band was placed. I have lost no weight. I'm feeling a little discouraged, I read of people being banded and losing from the start. I have to tell you I'm wondering if I'm one of the ones that the band won't work for. I go for a fill on Tuesday (6/14) and sure hope this helps. I know it can take anywhere from 3 to 5 fills to get to a proper level of restriction. I guess I need to know if there is anyone else that has been through this. Am I the only one that has not lost weight untill getting filled???? Please share your experience and if you felt like I do now. Thanks. Patty

Hi Guys, Has anyone gained weight between having surgery and getting your first fill? I have (about 7 lbs). I'm so glad I'm getting a fill tomarrow, maybe at least I'll feel I'm on my way to losing some weight! Patty

Heather, so sorry to hear you lost your job. I'm trying to give up the junk too! I have my first fill tomarrow, I really hope it helps. Take care, Patty

DeLarla, I definetly need to be in on this, I am way out of control with junk. I need help too! I go for my first fill tomarrow. I'm pretty disgusted with myself, and am wondering if I'm even gonna lose any weight with my band because of the way I eat. I just got done eating a bag of the little chocolate covered donuts (I've absolutely lost my mind). I sure hope restriction will help me. After my fill I'll be on liquids for 2 days, maybe this will help get the junk out of my system. Patty, fat and desperate~

Becky, back away from the T.V and nobody gets hurt! I feel for you, even though my Dr. doesn't require a liquid fast before surgery I'm seriously considering doing one. I hope I can do it. You're gonna do just fine with your surgery! I'm right behind you, 5/9. Sending you warm wishes and a speedy recovery. Patty -
Hi Brenda, Thanks for the info. I'll be sure to watch. Hope everything is going fine with you. I'm looking forward to getting my band May 9. It will be interesting to see your journey! Take care, Patty

DeLarla, I know what you mean. I'ts a constant battle. It really scares me how I put junk food before my health. I know the whole time I'm shoveling it in that I'm really harming myself, but I can't stop once I start. I am happy to say I haven't had any sugar in 5 days. I'm really trying to get away from it before I get banded.

I can identify with alot of these things mentioned in the different posts. I also come from a family that's very disfunctional. Mental illness, alcoholism, sexual abuse etc. I have used food most of my life for comfort. I love food, especially sweets (pastry, cakes, just about any kind of dessert). I have been successful a couple of times losing weight, but to keep it off, thats another story. I truly feel I use sugar the way an alcoholic uses alcohol. I've been to numerous 12 step programs and feel they did help me to a degree. I learned alot about myself through theses programs. Also through years of therapy I've learned some things too. I do know that my desire to use food as somthing other than what it was meant for will always be with me. I have to learn to live with it, because it's not going away. But I have a choice, to use or not to use. Thats where the problem comes in. I choose to use more than I choose not to. I don't think there is a day that goes by that I don't think about food obsessively, whether I'm on a diet or not. I hate having this compulsion because it has caused so many problems in my life! I use to think if I could just find out why I'm obsessed with food that I would be able to stop it. It's who I am, it's a part of me. I'm really hoping that when I get my band it will help. I know that I will have to work very hard. The band gives me hope that I can lose this weight and keep it off. It sure is nice to know I'm not alone, thanks to all of you for being so honest! Patty
