Surgery Tomorrow ;-)
Erin replied to jessicamiller4889's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Chapstick! Lol....that advise was so useful when I went in! Thanks. I would also recommend a list of the reasons why you came to this decision. I had to wait 4 hours in pre-op and the nerves really got bad.....but I whipped out my list and my fat picture and it helped. Just a little thought....lol. I was SUPER scared so if you are too....this may help=] -
Does anyone have a really delicious protein meal replacement shake? 1month post op and I'm dying for a new flavor.

OK....I know to never drink any sweet fruit drinks over 5 g of sugar. And I know alot of people have dumped on OJ because its so extremely high in sugar, but can you have a few segments of fresh orange? If that's possible then can't people have a few ounces of fresh juice from the orange? Just wondering because I recently bought some grapefruit without thinking if it was naturally too sugary or if the fruit itself is OK .......just not the processed juice the store sells? Any thoughts?

I am 1 month post op.....and I was sore for about a week. It wasn't pain just really sore and I could just feel my insides loose or just not settled yet(for lack of a better way to describe it). I didn't do anything but walk, sip fluids, and rest....over and over for three weeks. I just wanted to be extra safe. Getting in and out of bed was tricky....I used my nightstand and turned it to where I could push myself up with ease. It really helped and in about four days post op I didn't need it anymore. Good luck!

Tips For The New Girl
Erin replied to musicalwonder's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know I can't wait for my 6 weeks to be up and I can start with weights for these arms! Lol. My doctor also said walking immediately was great, but absolutely nothing else till after 6 weeks! Its just not worth the medical complications that could occur. I'm an Emergency room RN and I have seen so many people come in after they pushed it and now the harm they have done is irreversible. Just walk......and good luck! -
Today I ate the most yummy mini omelet! I wanted something rich, creamy, and sugar free and low fat that would go down without a hitch....lol. just wanted to share it in case anyone was getting bored with the same old stuff. I took two eggs beat them and placed in a fry pan with a tab of butter placed the lid on with medium heat. In about a minute I added a tablespoon of shredded fresh parmesan cheese and spread on a thin layer of a tablespoon of trader Joe's sour cream spinach dip. Flipped it like a little omelet and done! It was amazing. I think tomorrow Ill just use one egg....as I'm full after a half of it. I just made sure the eggs were still soft, and chewed well. Really a winner in book!

I am on the puree stage 3 weeks post-op and just wanted to share some little things that have makes this stage a little easier so far. Of course I've been eating pureed tuna for the protein Benifits lately ......but found the best low fat mayo to spice it up called Kraft cracked pepper mayo with olive oil! It amazing with tuna and some minced onion and sugar free sweet relish and I found in the baby food section the Gerber graduates "lil crunchies " in garden flavor.....they are for babies who can't chew and the little puffs just melt in your mouth. There is nothing to swallow just a great little dipper chip that instantly disintegrates on your tongue after you crunch it and they are great to dip in the tuna or spread a little cheese on. Also of course the mini barbell cheese as great too! Love those. Also found an almond milk that is sugar free, lactose free, and only 40 calories a cup! Great for making the sugar free pudding. I'm still too scared to try milk products so I'm playing it safe.....lol. oh- and got the greatest tip ever from my pharmacist! My insurance only covered these huge horse pill capsules to prevent acid reflux that I had to take. But I was so scared because they were so huge! He said just brush on little olive oil then take the capsule with a sip of drink. I would have never thought of that! Anyways.....it worked! And these pills are like a half inch in size! Really scary. Lol . Just thought I would pass it along. ......

I like my protein drink but its starting to get old and I'm starting to opt for something like sugar free pudding instead of the drink. And I know that the pudding is empty nutrition. I am so not creative in the kitchen.......does anyone have any suggestions on kicking up an orange cream (from Bariatric Advantage) protein drink or can recommend a new mix? I am only 3 weeks post-op and my drink is good just getting boring. Thanx

Know I Want This Done But So On Edge
Erin replied to lifesshortlive247's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi there! My name is Erin, and I totally know what your going through. Im a single mom too and was petrified up until they knocked me out in pre-op and wheeled me in the OR. They had me wait 4hours longer than expected and the patient before me coded!!!! I even remember making the joke if we didn't get this show on the road I was so nervous I'm gonna jump off this gurney and run to the nearest buffet! Lol. But I knew in my heart this was chance at a healthier life......and I better go for it. Also I knew ahead just how scared I would be so I made a list of all my reasons I chose this decision......and reading it before surgery helped to calm my nerves. I am an RN ......and I think that made matters worse. Sometimes ignorance is bliss.....lol. If you need anyone to talk to just let me know. I know its hard to describe to other people what your feeling when it comes to weight loss surgery, unless they are going through the same thing. Good luck! -
Congrats! I was so happy when I finally got to the pre-op appt. I had my surgery on April 6-12 and am feeling great! I'm so happy to be done with clear liquid phase.....lol. Good luck!

Hi everyone! I just had the RNY gastric bypass on April 6th 2012 and just found this site. I thought I would pop in and introduce myself. My name is Erin, and would love to get to know some people who are going through the same thing I am. I have been doing pretty well so far, thank god! Scared to death something I eat may make me dump, so being super duper careful about everything right now. So far so good. I am on the puree stage week three, and its getting better now that I can chew a little...lol. Well, I hope everyone is doing well, and I could use any tips or tricks that can make the transition smoother. have a great day!

I'm only three weeks post op....but I read somewhere that a good way to spruce up chocolate protein powder is to use a tablespoon instant coffee grounds, ice, a tablespoon Hershey sugar free syrup, and it blends up like a frapaccini from Starbucks.....sometimes I use the sugar free hazelnut syrup for coffee then blend in ice with the vanilla powder.....but I haven't tried the chocolate one yet. My protein powder is from Bariatric advantage and its pretty good.
