Hi everyone, just wanted some feed back on the purée food post-op eating. My doctor will be having me start the purée stage later this week and really I'm baffled at what exactly to make/eat. I have a guideline from my nutritionist and was just wondering what have you guys made and enjoyed? How about purée meats/tuna? It just doesn't sound so appetizing to me. Any insight appreciated... Thanks! Mary

Thanks do much ladies for taking the time to reply! It's weird since I'm not a newbie to bariatric surgery but this is such a different ball game. I'm so glad I found this board to help me through this journey.., really giving me great ideas for the coming weeks of my recovery. I still don't think I'm going to be making any kind of meat purée lol I think of the jarred baby food meats I used to feed my son and even the smell of them used to make me gag. Vamps- I think it's funny how you say your tastes have changed. Wonder if that will be so for me as well. I'm just hoping to get some variety in the next stage! Trying to stay focused and do the right thing to ensure my body heals well. Thanks again! Anything else you can think of I.e. foods you enjoyed during the purée stage please share away

Yeah I am really scared just moving on to purée food! Did you ever try the canned chicken? When I had my lap band surgery that was like a staple for me! Thanks for the pointers really appreciate the guidance as the RNY is a whole different world.

Yeah I've never liked tuna lol what do you do with your tuna if you don't mind me asking? Do you eat it plain?

Unflavored Protein Powder?
mary818 replied to mary818's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the suggestion! I did some online research and that one seems popular; I guess I'm just looking for ways to eek in some more protein tony meals as I'll be moving on to purée foods soon. -
I guess everyone's body reacts/heals differently. I'm seeing my doctor tomorrow for my one week follow up; at that time we will discuss progressing to purée food... I have to admit I'm terrified even though I had lap band and been through this I was a lot less scared last time around.

I saw you mentioned you are on the purée stage; how far post-op are you?? Great that you are able to get that stuff down. It gives me hope and I'm only 6 days post op and already getting tired of the choices I have. I have a huge soft spot for Mexican food lol

Hi everyone, I'm new here. Just had my lap band surgery revised to roux-en-y gastric bypass on April 17th. Initially I lost 86 lbs with my lap band but the Lapband never worked for me, for the 3 years I had it all I did was vomit; which was what lead me to my journey to undergo the bypass. I had my surgery at NYU hospital; the wonderful Dr. Marina Kurian performed the surgery. All seems to be going well. Getting my fluids down, and in a minimal amount of pain. I do find sitting upright for any amount of time is a bit uncomfortable for me. And I feel very bloated with a lot of gas pain. How long did you guys experience this bloat/pain? When did you start feeling more like yourself as far as energy wise. Right now I just feel exhausted! Granted I did not sleep much at all in the hospital. I am looking forward to hearing everyone else's experience and words of encouragement. Thank you for reading this and giving me the opportunity to introduce myself. Looking forward to sharing my journey with you all! Best, Mary

I had my surgery on 4/17; so 4 days since my surgery as well. im still taking my pain meds but not as frequently. I'm having pain still when I walk or sit straight up and my surgeon told me to take as needed. I don't think it's a problem that you are still taking them if you are still experiencing pain.

The pre-op this time around for me was a bit tougher. Believe it or not when I had the lap band there was no pre-op diet involved. I only had to do a one week pre-op liquid diet; it was tough as it was my fiancées birthday as well as another family bday party. But remembering I was doing this and being strict with myself so my surgery was safe and successful as possible helped me get through the tough cravings. It did get easier for me by day 3. My surgeon allowed 2 cups of fresh or steamed veggies a day which helped me feel satisfied. Don't worry you will make it through. I think the pre-op diet prepared me so much better for the post op life this time around. Hang in there and stay strong!
