Thinking of you too anjela. Hope you are well!
-
I'm a month post op and having very similar problems. Nothing seems to appeal to me anymore food wise; I find even thinking about what to make/eat makes me more nauseous more often then it doesn't. It gets frustrating as I know I need to eat...it makes me feel abnormal. So weird how before the surgery all I thought about was what I would be having for my next meal. I hope it gets better, I don't want to always feel sick when it's time to eat. Maybe when I can add more foods I'll feel like I have options/variety and things may be more enticing.

How far along post op are you? I'm just wondering because your lungs are more susceptible to infection after surgery. I had a nasty upper respiratory infection 2 weeks post op and my doctor actually sent me for a chest X-ray to ensure I didn't have pneumonia. If you feel really cruddy or have trouble breathing is try to get in to see the doctor sooner. In the interim.. Lots of fluids... I also took Diabetic cold medicine over the counter to help calm the cough. Feel better!

Surgery Set Up For 5/21 Thinking Of Backing Out
mary818 replied to john's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
John-- I saw you stated your surgery is @ NYU; may I ask who is your surgeon? I had mine done 4/17; my doctor is Dr. Marina Kurian. It really is a great hospital with a wonderful program! -

Missing My Bubble Baths
mary818 replied to romellewhite's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Believe it or not my surgeon said 6 weeks no swimming/baths. Nothing with this surgery is standard lol. -
No one here is perfect no matter how far post op we are and how successful we have been on our journeys. I read this thread and was a little taken back on the judgmental undertones. We are all evolving and I think it's wonderful so many choose to highlight their weak moments and vulnerabilities such as the little slip ups we have here and there. I for one feel that much more normal when I'm craving something I used to eat and reading others experiences makes me think twice about attempting. I didn't become overweight overnight and I know I'm not going to be perfect on my WLS journey. Let's try to remember one step at a time folks... I'm all for tough love when necessary...but I don't think anyone in our shoes wants to feel badgered about slip ups. Thank you all for continuing to share your stories please know that they Inspire me, encourage me, educate me and make me feel that I always have people I can reach out to when I feel no one gets what I'm going through.

I was allowed to have 2 cups of veggies a day. That helped me a lot as well. Is that a possibility for you?! I agree a lot of it is the chewing sensation. Maybe sugar free ice pops? Hang in there... I know how hard it is but keep your safety in mind.

Revision (Band To Bypass)
mary818 replied to mstratto's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi guys, to clarify... I had been having issues with throwing up with my band for so long there was nothing in my band the last few months! My surgeon actually removed some residual fill about a week before my surgery and that was it! I have heard some instances where folks get the band out first and then bypass done after but I'm not sure under what circumstances that would be done. I'm now 3 weeks post op and feeling like this was the best choice I made! It was a rough first 2 weeks but I think I turned the corner this past week. I really hope you guys can get through this process as fast and as stress free as I have so far! I know what it feels like to be in your shoes! Cannot wait till I hear you guys are approved and ready to go for your all in one revisions -
How Long Were Yall Out Of Work?
mary818 replied to dieseluncg68's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was out 3 weeks; prob would have been back after 2 but I ended up with bronchitis so that kept me home for an extra week. I started back to work this past Monday and it feels like I never left. Everyone heals differently my surgeon said generally 2-6 weeks for most. -
Revision (Band To Bypass)
mary818 replied to mstratto's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had a similar experience with my revision surgery. I do believe the fact that i have a different insurance company now then I did with the Lapband made it easier for me to get the approval. I literally waited just a matter of weeks from the time I met with my surgeon to the actual surgery date. I wish you both the best of luck -
Great Tip For Side Sleepers!
mary818 replied to amy0501's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great tip! I've been using my pregnancy pillow lol. Don't know why I saved it (my son is now 5) but I'm sure glad I had it when I'll got home from the hospital. It sure helped making it easier to sleep on my side -
See that's a step forward for you too Kelly! Don't be nervous just remember eat slow and chew chew chew! You will be feeling lots better

No real issues yet..I actually went out to dinner tonight with my bf and his family to Celebrate a family bday and was able to order off the menu! Of course I couldn't have the cake or other goodies but I feel like its a small sacrifice to pay now for a huge pay off in my health later. It also felt good to get so many compliments about my weight loss already. Like I said I just look at each phase of eating as just that a phase. I'm learning so much about eating and hunger through these phases. I believe it will better prepare me for when I can eat more in the future... It is helping me learn to not over eat. Just have patience with yourself! Keep your chin up.

Yup, my nutritionist and surgeon didn't have me even attempt shakes until 7 days post op as they explained to me that it's a bit heavy on my new tummy. It is still taking me forever to finish my shakes (but that's probably as I can't stand them lol) but it seems like everyone's medical professionals have a different school of thought on this one.
-
Yes, I agree with the others, please check with your doctor as you are not that long post op. Better to play on the safe side.
-
I ordered the sample pack of nectars the other day too (on your reccomendation too vamps lol) I've been trying to choke down the shakes I have and in literally gagging. Ugh! I ordered the roadside lemonade, chocolate truffle, vanilla bean torte, cappuccino, the iced tea one and fuzzy navel. They are supposed to arrive today. Hope I like one of these flavors so I can get on the right track with my protein as I know I'm not getting down nearly enough!
-
Kelly- I'm only a week ahead of you; and just last week I was felling the same way as you. I was very down about not being able to enjoy meals out with my boyfriend and family. I too was doubting myself for having the surgery. I have to say I'm feeling a lot better this week. My nutritionist has given me the green light to start some soft foods. I am feeling closer to normal now and see a light at the end of this seemingly never ending liquids tunnel lol. Just keep in mind this liquid phase is just that.. A phase. Little by little normalcy will return to your life. Just follow your doctors directions and know you are taking care of your body the best you can. Hang in there it will get better!

A Little Confused About Sugar?
mary818 replied to Erin's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had a conversation about sugar yesterday with my nutritionist as I'm concerned about dumping. Generally natural sugars are much more tolerated. So juices/foods with no sugar added are usually safer. Big thing is to avoid concentrated sugars. With that being said... She also said everyone is different so what may trigger dumping in me may not effect you. I think like vamp said all we can do is try! I'm only 3 weeks post op so I'm still a bit too scared to try anything. Good luck! -
Revision (Band To Bypass)
mary818 replied to mstratto's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Thank you its nice to see the scale going back down lol. My insurance initially denied it; but my surgeon sent in an appeal and some how pushed it through. It literally took me a month from when we decided we would do the revision to the actual surgery date. I was fortunate! -

Four Days Til Liquid Diet
mary818 replied to poker aggie's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Aww yeah it's a long 2 weeks; but try to keep focus on each day (and it is pretty sweet when you get on the scale before surgery and see the lbs have already started to melt away) this too shall pass
