Antti Depressants
romellewhite replied to krystacoyle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor gave me Wellbutrin and I took it two weeks in. He said it was more important to keep it in my system. Did not affect my weight loss at all (269 to 194 since May 3rd). I think it helped because I didn't deal w depression. -
My surgeon required a 10% weight loss also so we didn't have to do a 2 week liquid diet. We just had to do one day of full liquids and one day of clear liquids before surgery.

I've been to other sites and I honestly have to say that the people who respond here are genuinely kind and welcoming to each other. They offer encouragement and advice w/out being mean about it. Great site!

I have Kaiser and they have one of the longest lists of vitamins. I have to take 2 Multi vit, Calcium Citrate + D, B-12, B-1, Iron + C. We were just told to take what's on your surgeon's list in the months leading to surgery.
-
Walk as much as possible! And start your vitamins. It makes your recovery so much easier if you are as healthy as possible going into surgery.

There are 28 grams in an ounce. I'm lazy so I have a digital scale that converts for me :~).

New Food For Post Ops...

I would really appreciate a copy of that list. Romellewhite@gmail.com. Thanks!! -
I am at a facility w three surgeons and they don't even agree w each other. There is just debate between surgeons over what works. I have a hard core surgeon so no rice, no pasta, no caffeine and no carbonation. Forever. I promised myself I would follow his plan and it seems to be working so far.

Not A Loser But A Staller....:( (Aka Failure)
romellewhite replied to Ellie_Grace's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so sorry to hear about your struggle. I would not give up this early. Your body has been through a tremendous shock and everyone responds differently. I would say that, long term, it is physiologically impossible to continue to eat 400-800 cal and not lose weight. Especially w exercise. So whatever you do, don't stop what you're doing. Just stay the course. My favorite saying on this WLS journey is "my race, my pace". Just trust in the process. Good luck. -

You look great! Keep up the good work! -
I'm in Sacramento where it was 106 last week and 80's today. And, yeah, we have those 100 degree weeks too :~).

I understand about the heat! Just finished a heat wave in CA so I did my running on the treadmill.
-
Yes. I have it on mine. Look under either C25K (Couch to 5 K) or Zen Labs.
-
I have been using the C25K app to learn how to run. As the weight comes down, it gets easier every week. And I think it has helped my weight loss sooo much (46 lbs since 5/3/12 and 76 lbs overall since Feb).

Not Enough Protein/calories?

I have had this. I have lost 74 lbs and there are some people who have never said a word. Then there are people who bring it up all the time. There are definitely people who have issues w the weight loss and I honestly don't know why. How does my losing weight affect them? Was it a condition of us being friends that I stay unhealthy? I don't bring up weight loss or weight loss related issues to anyone except my support group because this is my personal journey and I don't want to bring in any negativity. For me, part of this is truly getting to the point where it is about me and not caring what other people think.

Before And After Pictures

You really do look fabulous. Congratulations on your success! -
Our program starts us out on Protein shakes. My surgeon only wants us on them so that we can keep up our protein during the first few stages. After that, he wants us to eat our meals. Three meals, no Snacks. I had kept eating yogurt and Beans and drinking the shakes so I stalled out my weight loss. Now I eat eggs, cheese, moist chicken, tuna, salmon, turkey- things that I chew up but fill my pouch. He said the pouch needs to feel full. Having said that, everyone should follow their own surgeon's plan. One thing I noticed is that all the surgeons have different ideas of what works.

I was having a stall (5weeks out) and my surgeon told me to make sure I was only eating solid protein. I had become too dependent on soft foods like yogurt and refried beans. And was going to the gym everyday. Anyway, I followed his advice and lost five pounds this week. I can only eat 1 or 2 oz of solid proteins. I was eating 3 or more oz of the soft foods. Hope you start losing again soon!!

I had surgery on May 3rd and was thinking of a hamburger. You just cured that! Thanks :~).

Anyone Regret The Surgery?
romellewhite replied to steph1558's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
There are a lot of things that are internally changed when we have weight loss surgery. Externally though, the only thing that changes is that we eat less and, hopefully, exercise more. That's it. What I find interesting is how many people in our lives are bothered by that. It's like we changed the terms of our relationships. What I am trying to do is realize that if the terms of our relationship required me to do unhealthy things to myself, maybe I don't need the relationship. I am not minimizing the risks of the surgery itself. But if we have established that we are healthy following surgery and on the right track, we have to start wondering about people who respond negatively. If we go out to dinner and I eat 3 oz of Protein, why would or should that effect someone else? If I choose not to eat the appetizer w you, so what? If you want the appetizer, eat it. It's a choice on both sides that should be honored. I am fairly new to my surgery but, even now, the benefits are fantastic. But had I had complications or problems, I could not regret the surgery because I looked at my life and decided I needed to make a change. Which takes courage. If you research beforehand, you go into this w eyes wide open. And the opportunity is there to create a new lifestyle. Sometimes, that requires establishing new, healthier, more balanced relationships. Great quote (not sure who said it originally) "The "same" person will become obese again. Romey
