    About Me

Thank you. Not all my family is against it. I think the ones that are are just scared of the unknown. But they'll support me because they know it's what I want. And now that they can see me really trying to lose weight again they know there is no stopping me. I don't resent my family for their concern, that's what family is supposed to do (show concern). I get nervous about having the surgery. I know people who regret it and I know people who would never go back to the way they were. When I hear about people having problems I get scared. I don't have high blood pressure, diabetes or anything that goes along with morbid obesity. Well I do have high cholesterol actually. But my dad and his dad have diabetes. I don't want to get it. I have a support network on here and with a few friends that have had it done. I'm going to be okay no matter what I decide to do. I've made good changes with my diet and I know what makes me feel crappy. Thank you for your support. Good luck with your journey.

    Craving

Good luck, that liquid diet is the one that scares me the most. I think I'll be able to handle the soft/puréed stage. My surgeon even gave me recipes to turn the soft stage into meals not just boring yuckiness.

    Craving

I've heard that the mental hunger is the worst. We've been eating unhealthily for so long that our minds crave the bad stuff. It doesn't even have to be the bad stuff tho. I know people who craved salads and another who craved eggs but couldn't stand the taste anymore. That mental hunger is what makes my husband worry about me having the surgery. Mamiof3-Most people who go through with this surgery, know this isn't a quick fix thing. Some people cannot handle the depression brought on by the mental hunger, they end up giving in to it, realize they don't dump, and they just start eating again like before. That being said, I also am looking forward to new ways of having sex.

    About Me

Hi amy0501, thank you for supportive words. my husband has become supportive. He does worry about me but he knows that i want this surgery badly. He does hope that I'll lose enough weight before my surgery that I'll decide I don't need it. I've lost 15 lbs since march. I'm eating healthier by cutting out a lot of sugars, lowering my calories and fat, and increasing my Protein intake. I feel better about my weight loss this time around. I can occasionally have something that is not good for me and when I do I feel like crap so I try not to make that mistake again. But I have at least 2 more months before I could have the surgery. I'm going to continue trying to lose. I did tell him and my grandma (she worries a lot about me) that if I lose 50 lbs before surgery that I will not do it. My grandpa has promised me $1000 if I lose 100 lbs w/out surgery. So I guess we'll see what happens. Thank you again

    About Me

I know Jessica, it's crazy expensive. And it's difficult dealing with discouragement. That's why we now have RNY Talk and a good support group.

    About Me

I'm sorry that your husband isn't supportive. It has taken him some time to come around. He is of the mind that it is my body and it's not his place to tell me what I can and can't do with my body. He would much rather I found something else to do instead of the surgery. He really worries about my mental health and i think I'm showing him that this surgery is what I need.

    About Me

You're both absolutely right. It's stupid that to eat healthy we have to spend more money. My husband and I have gotten to the point where we want to grow our own fruits & veggies so that we don't have to spend so much money at the store. It also tastes better when it's home grown. I want to get my family away from eating out of boxes but it is hard.

What Protein Shakes Do You Use?

Where do you find the nectars? Other than online?

    A Little Discouraged :(

Jessica, I remember you saying that you're a picky eater. This is the perfect time to challenge yourself to not only try new foods but maybe even attempt to use the blender and try to cook. Try to find some RNY friendly recipes and see if you can make some. It's good practice.

    About Me

Oh yeah, since the beginning of March I've been having a protein shake for breakfast and trying to limit my fat, sugar and caloric intake. I did this for me, not my surgeon. I've lost 10.5 lbs so far. One thing that I notice that is different for me now as opposed to when I was doing weight watchers is that now I don't want the junk food. Back then I did. I almost would be okay if my surgeon said I couldn't have the surgery in July or August but I had to wait until October or November. Just so I can have longer time to train myself and make sure that I can continue this dietary guide without any problems. Anyway that's a little more about me.

    A Little Discouraged :(

I'm sorry for the setback Jessica. But try to look at the positive side. You'll now have more time to figure out post surgery things. Try to figure out what protein you like best. Try to eat, at least to a small degree, like you will after surgery. Make sure you're exercising and being the best you. I know how the bmi goes. I think at my heaviest I was 54, I'm down now to 49. I will weigh in on Friday to see if I've lost any weight this week. I'm not feeling like I have at all. One thing I'm grateful for is the time to figure out how to eat, drink and live post op before going through surgery. I'm working on not eating many sweets, chips or drinking any carbonated drinks. I'm trying to prepare myself life after surgery. Just don't get discouraged, instead use this time to make adjustments. Congratulations on kicking the bad habit and good luck continuing on that road.
  18. You'd better be careful with the fruit. Even tho the sugars in fruit are natural they're still sugars. My surgeon suggested frozen berries as far as eating fruit. I'd try adding ice, blending it and add fruit essence or extracts. I'm not sure about extracts as far as how healthy they are but essences purchased at health food stores would be best so soon after your surgery. Good luck! You could probably try nectar protein or soy if the whey is not your thing too. Look up bariatriceating on line. They have a good selection.

What Protein Shakes Do You Use?

Oh yeah, I personally like EAS and Atkins. But I recommend trying several kinds and flavors. My surgeon recommends unjury but I'm not a big fan of it. She likes mixing strawberry powder with lemonade crystal light. It's actually pretty good.

What Protein Shakes Do You Use?

Just be careful if you're going to try protein shots. My surgeon said that the collagen based protein is not nearly as good for you as the whey. Even though there is whey usually it's not enough to do any good.
