I was just approved by Cigna on 10/21! I had been denied once, but the insurance coordinator at my surgeon's office was great and knew we just needed to send some additional documents to them. I was approved in a week once she submitted the additional paperwork. I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S ACTUALLY GOING TO HAPPEN!!

Last year I went through several of the first steps to have gastric bypass only to find my insurance had a specific exclusion for weight loss surgery. This year my employer has a new insurance - It's a Cigna HMO. I'm hoping they'll pay for it. As soon as the new year gets here I'm going to try it again. I need positive thoughts sent my way!! -
I am curious... Did most of you get approved for surgery easily or did you have a lot of hoops to jump through? I meet the criteria and have tried many weight loss programs. I also have a letter of referral from my primary doctor. I know all insurance is different but I'm curious on what most people experience. I have Aetna for medical.

Well i got bad news today.... Aetna will not cover any bariatric surgery for me. Apparently it's an exemption from my insurance plan. When I logged into their website online it said they covered gastric bypass. I am so disappointed!! I went through all of these steps just for them to say no! -

It's hard, but try not to listen! I've chosen to only tell a few people for the same reason. Unless they are in your situation, they don't understand. And as long as you feel it's right for you, that's all that matters!
