Presurgery Bumps In The Road
Jen in SoCal replied to Jen in SoCal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As you can see in the quote above, same thing happened to me on a smaller scale. I couldn't believe they did this to me exactly 1 week before my surgery date! So unfair... Have faith, stay calm and ask questions! The hospital eventually agreed to a payment plan with me paying half the day of surgery but I can understand that in your case that may still seem like a lot of money. Another member here suggested Carecredit.com which I had already looked into but apparently they didn't "Care" for my "Credit" haha. You should try it though. No intererest for like a year if you pay it off by then. It's a good deal if you get it. Above all else, ask the hospital for help and try not to stress. I'm sure you're already stressed enough as it is. Congratulations on your surgery!!! -
Apparently it's pretty common after large doses of antibiotics. Surgeons office phoned in a prescription for me right away and I am swishing with something the consistency of raw scrambled eggs 4 times a day for a few days, yuck! Funny thing is I was commenting the other day on how great and clean and white my teeth looked because I haven't eaten solid food in 3 weeks. Ironic...

I'm a week post op today and being a coffee FREAK, I mean I really love coffee, I thought i would try a few sips...MISTAKE! yuck! first time i felt naseous since surgery. -
Pre-Approval Process Nerves
Jen in SoCal replied to lessofme's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have Anthem Blue Cross in CA. my BMI was 40.1 and I have no other health problems except for arthritis I was approved in a week. Keep us updated. -
Ok, so I read so many encouraging threads about folks not even needing pain meds after surgery. I'm going on 6 days postop and still taking my pain meds. Walking is painless for me but getting in and out if bed is absolutely excruciating. I'm trying not to be a sissy and cut back my dose or skip it all together but thats no bueno! I'm not exactly new to surgery. I've had three csections and had my gall bladder removed so I knew what kind if pain to expect. I'm just getting so frustrated. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks guys:-)

I am 5 days postop and my stomach is still rolling too. it gets pretty loud sometimes! I have seen others on here to say not to worry so much about the protein as soon as you get home but make sure you ARE getting liquids in and that made sense so I followed their advice. I tried the shakes and found they filled me up so much i couldnt stand the thought of even sipping water later so I laid off for a day then tried again. Its a lot easier now. The key for me is to take the tiniest sip I can. I bought some festive little plastic shotglasses and I use those. They're two ounces each and I can now drink about one and a half at a sitting. but it takes a looong time.

How Exactly Am I Supposed To Get An 11 Oz Protein Shake Into A 4 Oz Stomach? I
Jen in SoCal posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So far all I can get in is 2oz at a time. Any advice? So nervous about dehydrating myself. Is it normal to only be able to take in that much 5 days postop? -

Congrats! I had my surgery Monday and came home yesterday. My left side is killing me too! I talked to one of my doctors and he said that's where they go in with the stapler so most people complain about that incision the most. I can't seem to get rid of this gas either! I have six incisions how many do you have? The surgeon told me I'd have 5 so i guess i got a bonus! But i swear I can barely feel the other ones but the big on on the left side is a doozie!

Less Than 24 Hours Till Surgery
Jen in SoCal posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Woke up this morning with instant anxiety when I realized this was my last day before surgery. I wish I could say it was my last day of freedom because I'm starving! But then I thought to my self, no... Tomorrow is my first day of freedom from being obese. It's amazing, just the little bit of weight I've lost on the preop diet how much better I feel. I'm not sure how much I've lost because I don't have a scale at home but I'm sure it's at least 10 pounds. I have a question for everyone that has had surgery already...my surgeon said not to be surprised if I wake from surgery in intensive care, that they do that sometimes just to have someone keeping an eye on you at all times. Did anyone else have that experience? -

Presurgery Bumps In The Road
Jen in SoCal replied to Jen in SoCal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Got awesome news this morning, the hospital approved my payment plan. I reconfirmed with the admitting nurse and the surgeons office and now I just wait till Monday! I can't believe this is finally happening for me! So excited and scared at the same time! -
I bought the Premier Nutrition protein shakes from Costco. My surgeon recommended them AFTER I had already spent 70 bucks on a bag of bariatric advantage orange cream (a weeks supply) The premier nutrition chocolate is delicious, super convenient ready to drink. They have 30 grams of protein and 5 grams of carbs! I'm so glad I found them. And to top it off they are only 27 dollars for a case of 18. They come in vanilla too but I haven't tried it yet.

You are so young, Beth. I wouldn't worry about loose skin if I were you. Best of luck to you

Waiting On Insurance Approval..
Jen in SoCal replied to geisha714's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told it would take two weeks to up to two months for final approval but it took 6 days. Honestly I think it was too fast! I found out I wasn't really prepared financially and I had to cram a lot if dr appointments into three weeks time. I have BlueCross BlueShield PPO -
Trouble With Pre Op Diet
Jen in SoCal replied to berniec's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been on 4 shakes a day plus broth and jello for ten days and my stomach is constantly growling! I've been dreaming about food almost every time I close my eyes! A recurring theme seems to be meatballs! LOL! -
Thanks for your replies guys... It means a lot to me. Tomorrow I let my bosses know I'm having surgery but I'm not going to tell them what for. I work for a large corporation so I'm hoping at least they follow privacy rules. My biggest concern is my coworkers gossiping about me and my work "friends" digging for details. Lol! I'm not really one for mixing my work and private life and this is such a personal thing. As for my fella, I informed him this afternoon that tomorrow I start my liquid diet and he just sighed a deep sigh and said "ok" and started cooking a big dinner.

Got the call yesterday and they gave me a surgery date of April 30th. It almost seems too soon! I'm going through a lot of emotions right now, excitement, elation, mixed in with sheer terror! I still haven't told my employer and I'm getting head shakes and eye rolls at home. I feel like my significant other is seeing this as a nuisance and inconvenience to him but something inside is telling me I HAVE to do this now. Wonder if anyone else has dealt with the same kind of reaction? He told me he would be supportive and accepted my decision but I could really use a little moral support right now!
