Coughing up something is pretty serious any time. Call your doc right away. Even if it isn't in your chest yet, it could work its way down there. Drink tons of liquids. Drown yourself with liquids! It will help thin the mucus in your chest.

Wish List Or What You Look Forward To
Jen in SoCal replied to LadyLocutus's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
1. Wearing high heels. 2. Dancing at a party. 3. Buying an item of clothing because I like it, not "because it fits" 4. No more Granny Panties! 5. Energy!!! So many more to mention..... -
Oh that sucks! Sorry that happened to you! I'm actually really concerned about this because I only get a 30 minute lunch break. It was hard enough eating regular food that fast. I'll be lucky if I get two bites in. I'm thinking I will have to do protien shakes for lunch every day.

I Thought The Hunger Was Going To Pass
Jen in SoCal replied to poker aggie's topic in Food and Nutrition
Those headaches are the worst! I had one for nearly 5 days during my preop liquid diet. My surgeon let me have clear beef broth (the kind you make from the little cubes) let me tell you, it helped a lot with the cravings. And just to have something in your mouth that isn't sickeningly sweet like those protein shakes was a Godsend. If its not on your approved list, it's worth a call to the Dr office to see if they will ok it. It has very few calories and no fat or carbs. The only thing is its so salty. Still, it's better than a steak. -
9 Days Post Gastric Bypass Surgery
Jen in SoCal replied to dejamonet44's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so jealous of you ladies! I had my 2 week follow up today and as we were finishing up I said, wait, aren't you going to change my diet today? The Dr said oh no, absolutely not. We're very strict here about you waiting till three weeks for purée. I wanted to cry! I see my dietitian next week so I guess it all makes sense now. I even went shopping last night! Boooo! -

I agree Panda. You look so pretty in your new profile pic! -
I think I had my surgery a day or two apart from you guys. I'm experiencing pretty much the same thing. I don't trust scales anymore! I go for my two week follow up Monday. I'm going to go by that one and weigh myself before and after at home.

Did Anyone Cheat On Preop Diet?
Jen in SoCal replied to armywifet's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was very tempted to cheat but I didn't! I was so proud of my self. About two days before surgery I was so tempted to attack my daughters happy meal but the I had visions of them opening me up and finding a chicken nugget in my stomach. Lol -

Presurgery Bumps In The Road
Jen in SoCal replied to Jen in SoCal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hope you got some good news :-) -
My surgery date is April 30th. One week before surgery the insurance verification lady at the hospital called me to tell me she misinformed me that I would only have to pay up my deductible before surgery. Turns out I have to pay ALL of my out of pocket plus my deductible before they will perform the procedure. Hospital policy for elective procedures. So instead of $370 I have to pay over $2700. They might as well be asking me for a million bucks right now! Lol! She said she'd check with her supervisor if I could only pay half up front, which will really be a stretch for me but I think I can do it. I really wish they would have told me this a while ago so I could have been better prepared. I would also think since they are getting an excess of $60000 from my insurance company they could be a little more flexible with me. Also my surgery is 5 days away and I think I'm getting a cold! Worst timing ever! I really don't want to reschedule but I don't want to end up with pneumonia either.... Trying not to feel sorry for myself but I'm so stressed right now I feel like my head is going to explode!

Yay! Goodbye Chewables!
Jen in SoCal replied to sweet's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For my morning shake I just use my bariatric advantage orange cream. I put the calcium in the water, shake it a little, then add the protein powder. I'm not crafty enough to make my own shake yet :-) -
Why, Oh Why Did I Step On That Scale?
Jen in SoCal posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I went out and bought a scale last night because I was was thinking it was silly that I didn't have one and to my dismay I have GAINED 2 1/2 pounds since surgery a week ago. Bummer. -

I bought the Wellenesse at Walmart just the other day. It tastes good but it's kind of thick. I mix it with my morning protein shake. The good thing is I only have to take it once a day. I'm kind of forgetful so that helps! -
Depress & Sad
Jen in SoCal replied to TinyMamiOf3kids's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ten pounds in one week, that's amazing! Really unbelievable! Keep up the good work and don't get discouraged. I was reading your post on the diet youre on and i have a little advice: You might want to try a different Protein shake other thank Slimfast. They are really high in carbs. My surgeon was not happy wih me when I told him I was using them the first two days of my liquid diet. If you're buying them at grocery store or Walmart or something you're better off buying Atkins (my mom tells me they taste good) or even EASadvantage. Theyre cheap and they have really low carbs and pretty good protein. They're not very filling though. Also, try to stay with green veggies, they usually have less carbs. -
Hair Loss!
Jen in SoCal replied to KevinsBabyGirl85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so sorry you're going through this. I think we're all dreading the day when this might happen to us. It's really frustrating that no one can seem to agree what the cause is. I tend to agree with the hormonal theory because the amount of body fat a woman has really affects her hormones. Lose a lot of body fat quickly, your hormones go out of wack. As off the wall as it sounds, maybe a visit to the gyn for some bloodwork wouldn't hurt? I'm super curious to see if men have this problem too. I know we have very few guys on here, but if any of them could let us know if they've experienced this it would be interesting. Of course, they can just go shave their heads, lol not fair. -
Why, Oh Why Did I Step On That Scale?
Jen in SoCal replied to Jen in SoCal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you for the encouragement. I really need it. I have since resisted the urge to jump back on. I'll do a weigh in Friday and hopefully that will be better. -
Wish I could help but I'm going thru the same thing right now :-(

Last night I looked at my toungue and discovered I have developed thrush yuck!!! Did a little research online and apparently its caused by all the antibiotics pumped into you during and after surgery. Waiting for the nurse to call me back from surgeons office to see if they can just phone me in a prescription or something. Feels so gross and uncomfortable! Please tell me I'm not the only one that this has happened to. Its so gross and embarrassing!

It's not really raw scrambled eggs LOL It just looks and feels like it. Swish and spit 4 times a day. It's nasty.

The nurse at the surgeons office said its fairly common due the large amount of antibiotics they give you before and after surgery. -

DL I think you're right. I'm having such a hard time getting my fluids in me. It's not that it hurts or I can't keep it down, I just have a tendency to try to drink to fast and that gives me that uncomfortable hiccup/burp if that makes any sense. I feel so discouraged right now. It seems like such a chore to schedule in all the supplements, try to stomach the protein shakes, not to mention the meds for my trench mouth (thrush) I don't see how there is enough hours in the day to get all my fluids in. Ugh! I feel like screaming right now.
