Wow What A Difference A Surgery Can Make
Jen in SoCal replied to ms.pinup85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You look beautiful! -
Best picture ever! I love his expression... He's like wow! I can't believe it!

Keep your chin up. I only lost 8 pounds in the first two weeks after surgery. Are you taking in enough fluids? Believe it or not your body will retain water if you are dehydrated. That can keep the scale from moving.

I have been getting compliants about throwing away food too. Not to mention the freezer full of stuff i bought that i thought would be perfect and i just cant handle eating it. Would it be possible to go for walks with your husband? I know you said you live in the country so im not sure if you have sidewalks there. I found that just going window shopping at a mall or someplace huge like costco seemed to be enough excercise for me some days. Above all else, remember you have lots of friends here. You're never alone.

I had my surgery the same day as you, April 30th I started out around 235, lost 5 pounds just by mindful eating, then I lost another 15 on my two week liquid preop diet. I was 215 the day of surgery and this morning I weigh 191. That's what, 24 pounds since surgery nearly 6 weeks ago. I know it's not a lot of weight since surgery, but it's a total of 44 pounds lost! The way I look at it, I worked just as hard to lose that weight before surgery as I did after, so every little bit counts! There is no way I would have lost 45 pounds on my own in two months, it always took way longer for me. I have my six week postop appointment on Monday. They're scale always seems to weigh less than mine so I can't wait so see what it says. Keep up the good work, you're doing just fine! We're doing just fine! Let us know how your postop goes on the 14th.

See, you were not very heavy to begin with. You won't lose as fast as someone heavier. Just keep with the program and you will lose steadily.

Drop It Like It's Hot!

Anyone can add me I'd they like. Jennifer Diviny-Fountain -
I had a beef patty when I went out to eat with my daughters and I tolerated it really well. It was flame broiled, not fried. I think that made a big difference. I ate about 2/3 of it. I believe it was a quarter pound (before it was cooked, of course). It was a little dry and I was dying of thirst but it sat in my stomach ok.

How Much Out Of Pocket?
Jen in SoCal replied to cutiepieme's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got a call exactly one week before my surgery date saying I had to pay almost $3000 before surgery. I knew I had to pay my out of pocket for surgery but figured I would be billed after surgery. I believe the way she put it was "Do you want to pay now, over the phone or would you like to pay it the morning you come in for surgery?" I was so stressed out about it they took my blood pressure 6 times at my last nutritionist appointment. It was terrible, I had come so far and worked so hard only to be asked "Oh, didn't so-and-so tell you?". Luckily they did agree to a payment plan 3 days before surgery. I hope all goes well for the two of you. It's wonderful that you will both be going through this together. -
Mami, I love your new profile pic! It's nice to see your pretty face :-)

My surgery was April 30th also and I've only lost 20 pounds since surgery as well. Do you mind if I ask what your weight was at surgery? I was 215 the day of surgery. It's pretty disappointing. I actually gained 2 pounds the first week but I have been losing a steady 5 pounds a week. I'm kind of happy with that.

Preop weight 235ish Surgery day 4/30 215 6/1 I'm 197!! Not a lot of weight lost since surgery but I'm under two hundred! I figured it out and if I keep losing close to 5 pounds a week I will reach my goal by September. Summer always goes by so quick so I'm super motivated! -

Gallbladder Question
Jen in SoCal replied to channing28105's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it's a pretty common thing to have your gallbladder removed during your gastric bypass surgery. Do you think it can wait until then? -
How Long On Pain Meds?
Jen in SoCal replied to tstevens28's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dont feel bad. I was on my pain meds for about a week after I got home. The last few days I just took them before bed. My prescription was for a three day supply and I got it refilled once. I still have almost half a bottle left. -

Post-Op Discomfort
Jen in SoCal replied to Scoutingismylife!'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone is different. I was very sore fir the first week. The second week was better but I still had a hard time bending, getting out of bed and sitting/standing from a chair. You may not feel like it but walking really is your best friend. I agree that getting out in the fresh air and sunshine will make you feel better. It did wonders for me. Three days out you're still in the infancy stage of the healing process. Take it slow if you feel like you have to. You can stroll down the street and when you feel like you've had enough, go home. Don't push yourself too hard. It's ok to take your pain meds to control your pain don't feel like a failure if you take them. That's why they were prescribed to you. Concentrate on getting you're liquids in and moving around as much as you can. You can do this! ( if I can, anyone can) :-) -
I thought it might be fun to share some food finds with each other. I'm not really talking about recipes, just things we find at the market that are really tasty, high in Protein and ready to serve or easy to cook. It might be a good idea to name the store or website etc that you found it on. For instance, I found at Trader Joe's Turkey meatballs Serving size is two meatballs 100 calories 4g of fat 5g of carbs 1g of sugar carbs 2g of Fiber carbs 12g of protein They come fully cooked in a 1 pound frozen bag and have no artificial color or flavor and no preservatives. And they're really delicious! I had trouble eating two but they are a great alternative to tuna which is getting a little boring to me.

I use a liquid one (cherry flavor of course LOL) but you only have to keep it under your tongue for 30 seconds. Out of all of my supplements, I think it's the most tolerable.

I went in there but it says it's for a lap band support group. Did I do it wrong? -
John get out of bed! LOL Naps are ok but you don't want to spend the day there. Even if you're just shuffling around the house it's much better for you than laying in bed. I think I speak for everyone when I say we're so happy that surgery went well for you! Congrats!
