Food Intolerances/taste Differences
Anjela424 replied to KevinsBabyGirl85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't really eat anything.....I can't wait to be able to eat again! Anything.... -
What kind of surgery did you have that allows you to still comsume soda? I was told to have nothing carbonated at all....ever
-
I experience dry mouth a lot too and I don't get the 64 oz a day either. My doc said between 48-64...but I don't get 48 either. Water is gross to me now and pre surgery I use to love it. Maybe using the Crystal lite packets will help you be able to drink more...the palmegranite kind is quite good as well as the peach and rasberry tea

Feeling Of Food Sitting In Throat?
Anjela424 replied to jemjem's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with Sweet. I'm only 25 days post op and EVERYTME I eat it feels like something is in my throat a and yea although it doesn't hurt...its so uncomfortable and with me it last for hours on end. I usually just try to go to sleep and pray its gone when I wake up. My doctors told me to just try to do liquids like broth n sugar free jello for now. I even had my throat xrayed to be certain nothing was lodged in there (it wasn't) I wonder will this ever go away. It makes me so miserable and uncomfortable -
I am less than a month post op and I've experienced shakiness as well as rapid heart beat....I was told its because I'm eating such a small amount of food that sometimes my body goes into starvation mode....I usually just sip on a little broth and it subsides. Hope this helps

Why Did You Choose Gastric Bypass Vs Gastric Sleeve?
Anjela424 replied to fattypattynomore's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I considered the sleeve for purely selfish reasons. With the sleeve you don't lose as much weight but you also don't "dump" and my greedy self was thinking oh yea I'll get the sleeve and still be able to have my Pepsi and stuff....I was originally 429 pounds....402 on the day of surgery which was 3/22/12....I'm 375 today... -
What do you use for protein?
-
I too get a sort of pain when drinking water...almost like its stuck there and takes a few minutes to really go down....and I'm always so thirsty and have the urge to gulp but I take the sips....I wonder why that is. If you ever get an answer, please let me know
-
I am 3 and a half weeks post op and haven't had the guts to try anything sweet. The way people describe dumping....I couldn't deal. I definitely wouldn't have dared tried soda...that's a no no for the rest of my life! Easter was so hard because my daughter and niece made the damn cupcakes and omg! It took everything in me not to power one down lol....I made it through though

Wow all of you had some very interesting suggestions. I am taking everything into consideration. Some days are really just better than others. Thank God for broths. That's basically all I really like...I mean the yogurts and puddings sit well too but geez. I know I don't want anything that has to be mixed with milk. I didn't like milk pre surgery and I hate it post. I have to do something bc the dietician says my body is bound to start breaking down muscle trying to heal itself it I don't get the protein supplements I need. I'm going back to see the surgeons tomorrow -
I'm gonna try it...My husband is having the surgery in a few months so he's seeing everything I go through so he'll know what to expect. Thanks for the helpful tips
-
I went there Thursday and I'm going back tomorrow. They said they may have to sedate me and put a scope down there to make sure the opening of the pouch is wide enough and that the pouch itself isn't too tight. I'll keep you all posted.

Is there a specific one you can recommend that's good? I have the Jillian Michael whey protein powder that you blend with skim or 1% milk but I hate it. I've always hated milk anyway but that 1% is horrible! -

Fortunately that's one thing that did eventually get better. I've never tried peppermint tea. Does it help? Is it good? I've never had tea without sugar. I purchased a sugar substitute called Truvia that's supposed to be really good. Unfortunately I didn't like it at all :'(

I've heard cottage cheese is really good too. Perhaps I'll try it. I need to do something. My surgery was 23 days ago and honestly I don't really eat anything. Unfortunately I have had the nausea and the vomiting. I wish there was something that would comfortably stay put in there. I haven't been taking my vitamins or drinking my protein shakes bc they nauseate me. Help.... -
Congrats on the new you. The gas was the worse thing for me to...the pressure was unbearable! They said walking around would make me pass gas or belch. None of that happened....It finally went away after about a week or so.
