Its to help with fatty liver and risk. Every bmi point over 50 someone is means more risk. My bmi is 53 so my doc said its best to get it to 50 if I can but its not required. But yes, its to give you less chance of risk for all/any complications after surgery. Bypass surgery used to not be done on anyone with a bmi over 50 because of increases risk, so be thankful docs will do over 50 bmi and be thankful he just wants surgery to be safer for you!

Tips For The New Girl
fattypattynomore replied to musicalwonder's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Swallowing- medical books says its only about 1-2 tablespoons produced so you should be able to do that but the real test is can your new stomach handle it...that's trial and error. Would be messed up if it caused you to dump! kama sutra - the easier positions would probably be ok as long as didn't cause you discomfort but the more contortions inthe position I would say wait a few weeks. Its always best to ask your doc when in doubt! -

What Do You Tell People?
fattypattynomore replied to buffalogal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too don't want to tell many people. especially people at work. They are all trim and I've heard remarks about how one coworker feels about people that have the surgery, so my mouth is shut! One girl st work knows cause she had it too but I told her not to say anything. Half my family knows, the other half thinks surgery is for lazy ppl so I haven't told them. The best thing is my boyfriend not only knows but supports me 100% no matter what, so that does my heart good. Big thing, I belong to body by vi, weightloss shakes. Lots of ppl on my team losing hundreds if pounds with it, so I feel horrible going to surgery and don't want to tell them a thing, yet I fear they will think its the body by vi and start asking questions....I'm so annoyed ppl have the nerve to think surgery is an easy way out and making us feel badly for doing it when the only ready way out is not getting ur weight in control no matter what method, that's what's easy, not this! -
Why Did You Choose Gastric Bypass Vs Gastric Sleeve?
fattypattynomore posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm in process of getting approval and trying to decide which one. Would love to hear feedback on why you chose bypass. Thanks. -
Ok Panda, I see your point. I was going on what I've heared from previous doctors add to why not drive cause I'm that person always wants to break rules so I always ask why n what will happen. And my docs actually said no driving and riding in cars unless going to n from doc. That was for previous surgeries, I haven't had Bariatric surgery yet so it could indeed be allowed...

Tor is correct, also, the no drive rule is also because ur body is still healing. No pain doesn't equal all healed. Early driving or doing to much past what they advised could damage, slow, or cause healing issues on the inside, lead to hernias, blockage, etcnw...its for our own good to listen to docs..there is so much our bodies do with every step we take n more.we make, ur body needs its rest to properly heal...please take the time! Hec one slam on brakes may not hurt right away but could do lotsof damage!

It sound like dumping? Also sound like hypoglycemia...may want doc to do fasting glucose test to see if hypoglycemic....

Telling Work About Needing Time Off For Surgery
fattypattynomore replied to kb12210's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Keep in mind your insides are healing even if you don't have much pain! A lady at work came back early, after one week cause she said she felt fine. Later that week she left by ambulance. Get job wasn't bad ono lifting n such but her system went I'm too shock, it was just too early the doc said. She had to be off 4 mos because she damaged her internal sutures moving around too much. Please takE off the time you need!.major surgery its nothing to play with! Also being too active too soon can cause other problems you dont realize at first... -
