  1. One night in the hospital for me too...I didn't have a drain tube but I did have a catheter which they took out early in the morning the day after surgery.
  2. Hi Zephra! Welcome to the boards. I'm still a newbie myself. I had my surgery this past wednesday. Did your doctor give you a specific pre-op diet plant to follow to lose that 15-20 lbs? Before my official pre-op diet started I made some changes in preparation for life after surgery. I cut out all sugars...like sweet tea, sugar in my coffee, soft drinks, etc. I never ate Breakfast and hardly ever ate lunch but then would have a huge meal for dinner. So I started drinking a Protein shake for breakfast and for lunch and then eat something healthy for dinner. I started that about 2 weeks before my initial surgeon consult and I lost 12 lbs during that time. You've definitely come to the right place for support...just consider us your second family! :tongue_smilie:

    Recovering nicely...

Our stories are almost identical except for the fact that I had a catheter until the next morning.

    Sleeved on 4/28

Congratulations! I, too, was sleeved on the 28th. There are several of us all sleeved on the same day and a few the day before us as well. I can totally relate to feeling like you did about a million crunches..I keep saying it feels like someone punched me in the stomach about a million times..lol I don't know how much liquids I'm getting in..I need to start measuring it. Sugar free jello and popsicles have been my saving grace though! I switched over from crystal light and sugar free koolaid to just plain water because I think that crystal light was giving me heartburn. I don't really have any suggestions..I just keep my cup of ice and water next to me at all times and sip on it. Best of luck to you and please keep posting. It's nice having people who are at the same place in the journey as me!

    Now I'm Worried!

My surgeon's office suggests that we have Imodium tablets on hand in case of diarrhea. They said it just happens to some people. The most important thing to remember is to stay hydrated. Make sure she's taking in enough fluids and watch for signs of dehydrations! Carefully monitor her to make sure the fever doesn't come back also. If it does, please contact her surgeon's office. Good luck to her!
  6. I can't have Protein shakes until day 5 which will be sunday. I haven't even tried to get any protein in yet. I've just been concentrated on getting enough fluids. And on an unrelated note...I am finally able to sleep on my side in my bed. Hoping that will allow me to get a good night's rest. I slept in my husband's recliner last night.
  7. LOL swift! How's the sipping going? How much are you getting in? The only reason I'm continuing to take the liquid lortab is because it helps me sleep.
  8. So today is the third day and I'm way more sore today than I was surgery day or yesterday. Feels like someone just punched me in the stomach about a million times. LOL I'm still very swollen and all I want to do is burp. I haven't had any nausea at all though for which I'm very thankful.

Way to go Carla! Aren't you happy to have it behind you?

    Water?

I switched to plain water last night because the crystal light and stuff were giving me heartburn so bad. I'm not usually a fan of plain water, but I'm enjoying it right now!

  15. I called the doc a little while ago because I started having some pain in the back of my left calf. My biggest fear is blood clots. He said it's probably nothing..probably just because of the edema from all the fluids they pumped into me through my IV. He said if I started feeling some soreness or tenderness or pain in my thigh or started having shortness of breath to call immediately otherwise they would check up on me in the morning and if it's still hurting they'd send me for an ultrasound of my leg. I'm pretty sure it's nothing but the papers they gave me said to call if you have calf pain so to make my husband and mother happy I did.

  17. I think it's one of the more strict plans out there! I was looking over the guidelines sheet they gave me. Here's what it says. Try adding low-fat cheese Day 42 (6 weeks): Add poached or soft egg, mushy red or white Beans (very small amount), cracker/melba toast, fresh fruit, protein and low-fat granola bars Day 56 (8 weeks): You'll be ready to try scrambled eggs, rice, Cereal, and whole wheat Pasta in small amounts *Always eat protein first 8 Weeks After: Baked fish, tuna, toasted bread, and cooked vegetables. Add Calcium supplement. Once you have tolerated baked fish, crab, and tuna, (maybe even ground turkey), you will be able to advance to baked chicken and salads 6 Months and After: No pork, ham, or beef until 6 months post-op.

    nervous & excited

Oh wow...another Mandevillian! Here it is after 9 pm and I haven't even packed yet. I'm getting pretty anxious..I hope I'll be able to sleep tonight! Who is doing your surgery? Where are you having it?
  19. Yeah I've done so good on this pre-op diet. My surgery is tomorrow morning and so today I'm on Clear liquids only and yet I'm DYING for a cup of coffee. Isn't it weird how knowing you can't have something makes you want it SOOO BAD. Sigh.... Oh..and I'm getting REALLY nervous about all of this!
