What a difference a month makes.....
goodlife replied to wannalise's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
BJean, do you find it has that "proteiny" taste? The one I use PrescriptFit lactose free chocolate tastes just like brownie mix to me...I really like it. I don't have to force myself to drink it all! -

One scoop has 14 grams of protein. I haven't tried any juices..they said I could have some diet cranberry juice which I don't like so. What brand of Protein Powder are you using? -

I don't get to have to eggs until week 6! On day 10 I can add thin creamed soups, pudding, and yogurt. Right now I can only have clear liquids and protein drinks/shakes. Today I had 3- 6 oz shakes...one scoop of powder in each. One scoop is 110 calories, 2 g of fat, and 10 g of total carbs. The only other thing I've had today is water. -

This evening I can say yes..I'm feeling much better. Not nearly as sore as I was but I'm still burping like crazy. My incisions are itchy too but that's good cause it means they're healing. As the day goes on I can take in more at one time. I started on my Protein shakes today...6 oz at a time - 14 grams of protein each. I've managed to drink three today plus sipping on Water all day. I can tell it's going to be a struggle for me to get in all of the protein. I tried adding a pack of unjury unflavored protein to a bottle of crystal light and it was disgusting. -

Good Luck to you! Please update us as soon as you can. I had my surgery last wednesday and I plan to go back to work tomorrow. I may not make it a whole day but I'm hoping for at least a few hours in the morning..maybe come home for a nap and then go back and finish out the day. -

Hey Jack...are you having surgery tomorrow? Just checking up on you! -
What kind of broth did you drink during the Clear liquids phase of your post-op diet? Did you make your own...did you buy it? I'm not much of a cook. I was thinking about wonton Soup broth or the clear soup strained from the sushi restaurants. Also on day 5 I can have thin creamed Soups and am looking for ideas on what kinds of things fall into that category. Thanks in advance for your ideas and suggestions!

butterfly...come back into chat! By the way...I was sleeved 5 days ago also. I'm still dealing with a lot of gas. All I do is burp all day long. I've been using gas x a lot also. Keep walking...I think it definitely helps. -
Welcome Richard! What are your plans for losing the 60 lbs? Has your surgeon given you a supervised diet plan to follow? Are you able to do any exercise at all? Do a little walking or anything?

I've never even heard of this restaurant! lol

cajun that sounds exactly like what I'm going through right now....all I do is walk around the house or up and down the driveway and I nap often. I'm pretty tired. I simply cannot do broth. Just hearing that word makes me want to hurl. I was so happy that I could start having Protein shakes today..but I can only get about 2oz in at a time. I did have a cup of decaf coffee this morning with non-dairy creamer and splenda and OMG it was the best thing I've ever had in my life I think! lol Other than that I'm trying to just sip Water throughout the day. -

My Stomach has 4 Days to Live
goodlife replied to ouroborous's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's getting closer! I'll tell you what everybody told me..you're going to do fine. I'm still 5 lbs up from when I went in for surgery but I was like 14 lbs higher when I first got home! and yes i think it IS possible to lose that much...I lost 12 lbs in 1.5 weeks just from getting off sugars and forcing myself to have a protein shake for breakfast and lunch (Which I usually skipped altogether) -
I felt the same way and I didn't sleep hardly a wink the night before my surgery. But I was confident in my decision to do this and with the procedure I chose. I have a huge needle phobia so the IV was a big concern of mine and so were the heparin shots in my tummy. I let them know about my phobia when I got there and they were really nice about it. They stuck me with a little bitty tiny needle in my hand with lidocaine to numb the area up and then put the IV in and I didn't feel a thing. They waited to give me the first heparin shot after I was already under. When they brought me to the OR they put an oxygen mask on my face and told me to breathe deeply and next thing I knew I was waking up in recovery. I remember vaguely waking up and them telling me everything went well and I was fine. I don't remember anything else until I woke up in my own room. Also I didn't feel any of the other heparin shots because my tummy was numb. Every other medication they gave me was through the IV. Overall it was a fairly easy experience. The worst part of the whole thing was the pressure in my chest and upper back that I woke up with. I wouldn't even describe it as pain...just pressure. Enough that it was a bit uncomfortable but I still was so groggy that I just went back to sleep. When I woke up I was much better. I had my surgery at 7:30 am wednesday morning and was home by 11:00 am thursday morning. The post op diet? Mine sucks...I won't lie. I'm sick to death of broth, sick to death of crystal light and Jello and I am so ready to have something of substance. I have a pretty strict post-op plan which doesn't really introduce real food for nearly 2 months. I never thought I'd be looking forward to being able to have a Protein shake again! lol I'm planning to go to work on Monday although probably not a full day. Probably will only stay a couple of hours. I've never had any real pain...just soreness and tiredness and lots and lots of burping. I've been using the gas x strips religiously..they have helped me a lot. I had a good bit of trouble with acid the 2nd day and I started drinking plain Water instead of so much crystal light and that seems to have helped. Good luck to you...I'm sure you will do great!

Hello and welcome to the boards. I have nothing to offer about Mexico as I had my surgery done here locally. Obviously I'm here on these boards so I chose the sleeve. The band was not even an option for me. Anyway, I just wanted to say hello and welcome and I hope you find the information you need to help you make your decision! Good Luck! -

Try surgeryloans.com and care credit I went with Care Credit as the interest rate with them was a little bit less and you can choose to finance for up to 60 months if you need to. Ask your surgeon's office if they accept Care Credit and if they're doing the interest free promotion. My surgeon's office didn't do that promotion..only the one at 14.9% interest. If you don't mind me asking....how much weight would you like to lose? -
I survived! Woohooo! Doc said everything went perfectly. I had some pretty uncomfortable pressure in my chest and upper back which I was told was gas pains. When I first started trying to sip I had some pretty bad spasms. They gave me some pain meds and some toradol and I went to sleep. When I woke up a few hours later I felt SO much better. Sipping didn't hurt anymore and the gas pains were all but gone. I was able to get down 4 oz of broth, 4 oz of crystal light, 1/2 cup of Jello, and 2 popsicles. Been walking a good bit also. oh..liquid lortab tastes AWFUL but it sure works well! lol And with that kicking in...think I'm going to get some sleep!

I didn't have leg things just foot things that every few minutes would fill up with air and then release. They told me too that as much as I was getting up and walking around that I didn't need them. It started the day I got home in my left calf and then yesterday it was in both. It feels like whenever you work out a whole lot and then you are sore the next day but it's only in the backs of my calves. Maybe I'm low on potassium? The first doc I talked to...the one on call the other night said it could be from the fluid too....to give myself time to urinate some of that out. Who knows! -
wow I wish I could have cream soups...I'm sick to death of these clear liquids..and for some reason the thought of broth just totally turns me off.

oh so I definitely can relate now to having more restriction in the morning. I finally got some good sleep last night...was able to sleep on my side/stomach. I woke up at like 4 am and decided to have some Jello. I couldn't take more than a few bites and felt incredibly full. Yesterday I had like 2 or 3 little cups of jello and was able to eat the whole thing. My 2 complaints thus far....this constant feeling like I need to burp...like there is always air sitting right at the top of my tummy. The other thing is this incredible pain/soreness in my calves. I did call the doc about that because I have a huge fear of getting a blood clot but after describing it to him he said it sounds muscular. So I'm just watching it. Might send my hubby out later to find some of those compression socks. It doesn't hurt when I'm just sitting here but when I get up to walk ..wow, talk about hurt.
