6 Mo Physician Supervised Diet
atcgoddess1 replied to hajones5891's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to do a 3 month physician supervised diet plan. I lost 9 pounds the first month, gained 4 pounds the second...and I got approved on my first attempt. Maybe it would be good to show some loss because that shows you do have some discipline but then if you gain and lose and gain and lose a little with a net small weight loss at the end it shows that you can indeed follow the program but that you are physiologically at the point where this surgery is truly your only option for long term success. Hope this helps!! -

atcgoddess1 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is this Monday! I can't believe that it's finally here. Seems like it took forever but now that it's here I can't believe it went by so fast!!! I am so excited. Also a little nervous...not gonna lie. I feel like all of my hopes and dreams are achievable now. I am taking control of my life. I just can't believe it. Wish me luck!!! -
I had to see a dietician as well. Twice already actually. Luckily I only had to do the liquid diet today and can start on pureed foods as soon as I come home.

Gastric Bypass Surgery On Monday!
atcgoddess1 replied to atcgoddess1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you all so much for your support!!! -
I only have to do the full liquids diet the day before surgery which is today!!! My surgery is on Monday!! I was so glad I didn't have the pre-op liquid diet either. It would be extremely hard. I did prepare some pureed meats and freeze them in ice trays so they will be ready to go when I get home. Can't say they looked so great but the taste wasn't horrible!! Good luck to you!!

Thanks for the info. I am pretty sure I bought that a couple of years ago but never took it out of the plastic. Think I'll go on the hunt for it!!

That is amazing and inspiring!!! What an accomplishment. You have always been beautiful. You now look so vivacious and full of life!! -
There are protein shots by New Whey. You get 21 grams of protein with half of a shot. It's only two ounces of fluid. Walmart sells them for 2.48 a shot. You can order them online by the case for a little cheaper but it's a good way to get in your protein at first.

4 Days Post Op With Questions
atcgoddess1 replied to steffie78's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am still pre-op but have attended lots of support group meetings. I was given this recommendation. In order to get your protein in the beginning, there is a product called New Whey protein shots. Each "shot" contains four ounces and contains 42 grams of protein. According to my dietician, your body can only absorb about 20 grams of protein at a time. So if you can drink 2oz. three times a day, you can meet your daily protein requirement. I ordered them online by the case. They are a little cheaper this way. But I have seen them at the Vitamin Shoppe and Walmart sold individually. Hope this helps. -
It helps alot!! Thanks so much.

Surgery In T-Minus 18 Days And Counting!
atcgoddess1 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What a long, emotional journey it has been to get to this point. I can't believe that my surgery has finally been scheduled. It all started for me in January...well this part of my journey anyway. My husband and I went on a quick weekend trip and when I almost could not fasten my seatbelt on the plane, that was my breaking point. I made an appointment for the initial consultation expecting to request (and be granted) the lap band. I half expected the Dr. and everyone else to ask me what I was doing there...surely I didn't belong did I? Not only did I belong, but I was told that gastric bypass was the best option for me. I was an emotional wreck when I left the office that day. With lots of help from my therapist, primary care physician and the weight loss center I am attending, I am now so glad to be having this surgery. I have been overweight and/or obese my entire adult life. But for the first time, I have gotten so heavy that it is affecting my life every single day....and I've had it!!! I have always hovered around 230 lbs. I've lost and gained, and lost and gained and lost and gained again the same 30 to 60 pounds countless times. When I did my initial paperwork, part of the requirement was to list all of the diets I have been on and the weight loss associated with it. I have gained and lost close to 700 lbs in my life!!! Almost two years ago, I was the best health of my adult life. I was walking up to ten miles a day, strength training 3 times a week. I got down to 170. I started having this weird ache in the top of my right foot. It continued to get worse and began to effect my walking. I went to my orthopeidic Dr. expecting to hear I had a strain or at the very worst a fracture. Instead I was told there was a tumor in my third metatarsil. I had surgery two weeks later. Luckily it was not cancer. However, a large part of the bone had to be removed as the tumor had "eaten" through it. I couldn't drive for six weeks. I couldn't walk for 3 months and had lots of painful physical therapy. I have a lot of nerve damage and am in constant pain. I have had all sorts of painful treatments to try to alleviate the pain with no success. Meanwhile, I have gained 116 pounds in less than two years. I quit smoking the day I had the foot surgery. I think a combination of quiting smoking, depression and this new complete sedentary lifestyle are the culprits. But now, I had developed sleep apnea, severe osteoarthritis, shortness of breath and GERD. I have way too many travels and fun things to look forward to - I am going to get my life back!!! I am so glad that I have educated myself on WLS. I now know that this is truly my chance at long term weight loss. I am so excited and so blessed that I get this second chance!!! I would love to hear your story and get an online WLS buddy!! -
Thanks!!! I am really concerned about excess skin and toning!! I know some of it is genetic but I want to do as much as I can to avoid it. Have you had surgery? What kind and when?

Final Pre-Op Appt This Friday!
atcgoddess1 replied to hollieismyname's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
God bless you and good luck. My surgery date is May 21. It's been about a five month process for me to get to this point. I am anxious, nervous, a little frightened but most of all filled with gratitude to have this "reset button" pushed (as I like to call it) and have a hope renewed to live my life free from the bonds of obesity. -
What Do You Tell People?
atcgoddess1 replied to buffalogal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At first I felt the same way. But with help from my therapist and MD I realize that my withholding information had a lot to do with me feeling ashamed. I realize now that I have a medical disease no different than cancer heart disease and that traditional diets no longer work for the majority once u reach the morbidly obese stage. I have really come a long way in shedding the shame and I have been completely astonished and humbled at the outpouring of support I have received. Several people have told me how proud they are of me that I love myself enough to take this step to take care of myself. And that made me realize that not taking care of myself contributed a lot to why I am here now. So own it girl. Be proud. -

Bypass Or Sleeve?
atcgoddess1 replied to buffalogal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Gastric bypass works two ways...restriction by reducing your stomach to a small pouch as well as malabsorbtion through rerouting your small intestines. The sleeve removes seventy five percent of ur stomach. The sleeve is a relatively new procedure so there are no long term studies. You will lose more weight with gastric bypass. You do have to commit to more vitamin supplements throughout the day with gastric bypass due to the malabsorption. My surgery date is 5/21. It was almost a six month process to get to this point. I have done a lot of research. Hope this helps! -
Hi! My surgery date is May 21. It has been quite a surprise as to who is being supportive. But I just have finally come to the point to where I know that I am doing the right thing for me and my life. Hang in there!
