Went through the same thing Nita. I go to a therapist weekly to help me with the emotional side of all of this so I don't repeat the same behaviors and eventually regain. She told me to compare it to being an alcoholic with your best friend and all of the sudden you decide to quit drinking. It's natural for her to go on the defensive. My friend and I share "fat" stories, embarrassing "fat" emergency snacks that we make up and all other sorts of info. So now she is scared that because I have had this surgery the dynamic of our relationship will change. And it probably will. I am still not getting the support that I would like from this person. It used to break my heart. But now that I understand her emotions and why she feels the way that she does, it doesn't hurt me as much anymore. And I am just proving to her by still going to the movies and out to eat...that we can still do the same things we did before. And she's actually slowly coming around. She is taking better care of herself. Eating better...going to the gym. So I hope that once she sees my success she will be inclined to follow in my footsteps. Cause let's face it...we can try to convince ourselves all day long that we are happy...but no one is happy at 250+ pounds!

mybariatricpantry.com bariatricchoice.com bariatricadvantage.com All good places to find nectar and Chike samples. I ordered a whole tub of Nectar Caribbean Cooler and hated it. So I have ordered some samples. The fuzzy navel in nectar is tasty...more like a fruit juice when mixed with water.

Heightened Sense Of Smell After Surgery
atcgoddess1 replied to disneynut02's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know if my sense of smell overall is enhanced but you are right about the smell of the protein. I was super sensitive to the smell of it right after my surgery and it made me so nauseous. I am almost 4 weeks out now and I don't have the same reaction to it any more. I use nectar and unjury. I have found that trying to put the unflavored protein in foods is just not a good combo for me. And the shakes with water go down much better for me when made with water instead of milk. The milk just makes it too thick!! Also...there are things you can add to your shakes like different flavors of sugar free torani syrup or P2B which is a powdered peanut butter. Makes them much more tasty. If you haven't yet check out theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com . She has a bunch of great recipes for shakes. Hope this helps. -
Help! I Am Having Gorging Problems!
atcgoddess1 replied to Nita1019's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nita, I did the same exact thing before my surgery. I went into panic mode. I had to do a 3 month Dr. supervised wellness program. I lost weight at first but I gained it almost all back before my surgery. I felt just like you. Like...OMG...I am never gonna get to eat here or here or this or that ever again. But aside from sugar and soda you can still have things you enjoyed before surgery. I have eaten out a few times and it went great. Just much much smaller portions!! -
You go girl! That is outstanding!!! Hang in there. It'll start moving again!!

I Need The Groups Advice
atcgoddess1 replied to nish's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If I had pushed myself I could have went back to work after two weeks. However, I have ended up taking 4. It's a bit of a challenge at first to get accustomed to drinking and eating. That being said...if there is any way that you can avoid putting off the surgery, I would. I believe it's more important than education...well really anything...your health should come first. And that's what this is all about!! -

100% no gum chewing ever again after surgery. Because it will get stuck. The stoma - the opening to your new pouch -will be too small to allow it to pass. At a minimum you would be in an excruciating amount of pain for several days till it passes or you could have to have another surgery to have it removed. My surgeon as well as every book that I have read on this new lifestyle says NO MORE GUM for life! Just like carbonated beverages. There are some things you just have to be willing to sacrifice. Bummer I know but your health is worth it!

Unbelievable!!! You should be so proud! -
I talked to my health care partner who is a nurse about slowing weight loss and she told me to try and get 10-15 more grams of protein a day. I'm gonna try it!

I am so sorry. Mine is going down but too slowly I think! Hang in there!

What is MFP? I am freaking out a bit.... I feel like I am not losing like a should!! I am eating only 500-800 calories a day. Exercising for at least 30 minutes...I don't know how long I should wait and call my Dr to see what's going on.

Help! Gotta Choose Surgery By June 19!
atcgoddess1 replied to fattypattynomore's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I chose gastric bypass for several reasons. Here are a few.... 1- There are no long term studies associated with the gastric sleeve 2 - My surgeon recommended it for my weight, health history etc. 3- You get the most weight loss with bypass 4- It forces you to give up sugar (which I really needed to do) Hope this helps! -
I've eaten filet mignon and it went down just fine!! And so delicious!!

Thanks Alex!! You're my hero!

How Much Did You Lose?
atcgoddess1 replied to Mrs.D's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tomorrow is 3 weeks post op for me.... At my last Dr. visit on 6/7 I had lost 22.9 lbs in 17 days. -
I ordered some of the pancake mix that you recommended as well as some soup. I'll let you know how they are. Walgreens carries a peanut butter protein bar that is out of this world delicious if you like sweets. It's called ultimate flurry protein bar. Has little miniature candies like reeses pieces. Only 2 grams of sugar, 16 grams of protein. I have a chocolate one but haven't tried it.

I was so scared of throwing up or worried about stretching out my pouch that it really took me no time at all. I find that if I eat too fast, my own body slows me down. Before surgery, I had a hard time believing that it could take me 30 minutes to eat one egg or a single meatball. But in the beginning it took every bit of the time to eat such a small amount of food. Trust me...I felt the exact same way that you do. But you just know and it's not a difficult task at all. The hardest thing for me is not drinking before, during or after meals. And then trying to cram in 64 oz of fluid during the rest of the day. Dumping is usually caused by eating too much sugar but can sometimes be caused by too much salt or fat as well. I have not experienced a severe case yet. I think I had a mild form of dumping after eating some yogurt. It had 11 grams of sugar. I had such a terrible stomach ache and just felt bad all over all day. So far I have followed my diet to a 'T" so I haven't had a bad episode of dumping. The people in my support group who have says it's terrible. One of the main causes of vomiting is eating too fast or overeating. Taking the full 30 minutes to eat your meal will help you recognize fullness. I have a small kitchen timer and I set it at 30 minutes so I can help pace my eating for the meal. Hope this helps. Best of luck.
