Is Having Rny Like Starving Yourself?
atcgoddess1 replied to Mutti's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
RNY is not "like starving" yourself. I think of it as a reset button. Research shows that once you get around 100 lbs. overweight, traditional exercise and diet will work for less than 2% of the population. If you don't follow your dietician's guidelines and exercise, you can gain all of the weight you lose back. It is not a quick fix or a permanent fix. You have to work at it and be committed to a new lifestyle forever. WLS is just a great "tool" to help you for long term success. Emotional eating still has to be dealt with. I go to a therapist once a week to work through these issues. Let me know if you have any more specific questions! -

Just tried Chike! Banana magic protein shake. It's delicious. It's very smooth and has a creamier texture than others I've tried. I ordered samples of all of their flavors off of celebratevitamins.com If you like banana popsicles thats what this tastes like. I can't wait to try the other flavors. 28 g of protein!

Large Lump On Left Side
atcgoddess1 replied to fluffylady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your gall bladder is actually on your right side(had mine removed a long time ago). If you had laprascopic surgery the left side is where the camera and light are inserted so it could be they just hit some tissue and it's bruised and inflamed. If it hurts though I would definitely call your surgeon's office. Better safe than sorry. -
My health care partner nurse told me to increase my protein by 10 - 20 grams a day because I felt that my weight loss was slowing. I was doing between 50 and 60. So I did and I lost 6.2 lbs this week!!

Gastric Bypass Related Books You Found Helpful
atcgoddess1 replied to LosingItForMe2011's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I have a great one. It's called Life after Gastric Bypass by Katrina Seagrave and Jerry Wayne. The first part of the book is by the man who tells his journey through weight loss surgery. He made me laugh and cry. Excellent and so honest. The majority of the book is by the dietician and it covers everything you can expect, how to deal with any possible problems, exercises you can work on to help you be in the right mind set before your surgery. I bought it on my Kindle first but it is such a great reference guide that I ordered a hard copy off of Amazon. I highly recommend it! -

Having Problems Eating
atcgoddess1 replied to TinyMamiOf3kids's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am beginning to wonder if something is wrong with me because I haven't found anything that I can't tolerate. I was on pureed food one day post op. Soft foods weeks two-four and can now transition to all foods. So far, chicken, fish, shrimp, steak, ground beef, ground turkey, bacon...everything is fine. I have yet to try raw veggies except tomatoes but everything else cooked has been fine. I can still only get in no more than 2oz protein at a meal. -
Welcome to the rny family! Ask anything you want. We are all here to support each other!

4 Months To Go & Diet Starts Today.
atcgoddess1 replied to ava214's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is overwhelming and scary. But you just have to know that this is the best thing that you can do for yourself in the long run. I think a lot of us with weight problems are not used to putting ourselves first. With this...you have to. It turns out you end up feeling very empowered and may realize your full self-worth for the first time in your life. Best of luck to you! -
Welcome!! Glad you are here!
