1. Happy 40th Birthday greyeyes!

2. 4 years has passed since you registered at LapBandTalk! Happy 4th Anniversary greyeyes!

3. Oh also the cost was $17,500. You have your surgery and do your overnight recovery at their clinic - not at a busy hospital. That was a plus to me. Also, they usually have an extra bed for someone to stay with you in or near your room. My surgery is in a couple weeks. SO excited for a change.
4.
Honestly, they encourage you to try to loose a pound or two before surgery. And you have a clear diet 24 hours prior to surgery... that's it. Nothing else is required. You have a pretty smooth liquid / clear diet a few days after surgery but that's it. I too was a little skeptical with other doctor's guidelines. And lossing a pound or two isn't easy. They are just trying to get a little wieght off your liver, to make it easier to move during the surgery. Have you had any luck finding a doctor?

5. I tried to give you the website to the doctor I picked in Overland Park, KS area. "The Weight Loss Surgical Center" there's also Dr. Malley in that area as well that a lot of people have had possitive feedback with... Good Luck. I think finding the right doctor for you, is the hard part. Letting go of the $$ seemed to be rather easy - compared to the searching
6. As a cash patient I was SOOOO disappointed with the OK doctors. I talked to several and all were at least 10-12 thousand more than any other doctor anywhere. I settled on a bit of a drive to KC... Portal-to-Go Error I'm having my surgery in approx 2 weeks... and couldn't be more happy about it. Also, good news to know that while talking to my doctor, he was saying that the center will be opening a fill center in the OKC or Tulsa area within the next year or so. Something to also consider and made me feel even better with my decision. Let me know what you find out.

What do you tell people at work

I have to agree that lying isn't an option... not for me. I'm working on getting my surgery scheduled in a few weeks. I have to say that I agree with what Vicki said, "this is my body and no one's business". I think talking about this being a new day, a new leaf being turned over... whatever works in your normal speak. I'm not even telling most of my "friends". My brother, mother and two friends know about mine and that's it. And you know what? I'm good with that. It's no one's business and I have no desire for anyone's comments about WLS. Freedom has a cost......... what's it worth to you?
8. I just had to say, "YOU ALL LOOK FANTASTIC!!!" "HAVE YOU LOST WEIGHT?" Keep up the amazing work.
9. I haven't heard anything. I'm looking for a DR in the OK area as well. Just went to a seminar for Dr. Gorospe in Tulsa.... he's pretty good, though I'm not happy with his price, being a cash patient. Let me know if you find out anything...

Dr. Melley in KS?

Hey banders, I've been chatting with allymb for a couple days now. It's good to get some other input about Dr. Malley as well. I'm also heading to the seminar this coming weekend and am SO extatic! Replicatr you will have to fill us in with your whole recovery... I'm a little older as well, so I'm sure I will relate once my process has started rolling... as it were. citygirl I have to admit that I'm a little freaked about the whole thing too, but this is a MAJOR step toward the next chapter in your life. So I know that you will do great. Do you have a good support system around you, friends and family, not to mention some good old fashion prayer... LOL Hang in there.

Just Starting Out - Travel Questions

I'm in Oklahoma, Tulsa Area. I'm going to be driving to Kansas City, KS to take a look at Dr. Malley and Dr. Ellison, since they are just a few miles from each other.

Kansas City KS ???

Sharon, I just wanted to thank you for your encouragement. I am going to drive over 200miles to go to one of Dr. Malley's seminars. I have a local doctor who performs the surgery only 5 miles from my home, but like you said, "find a doctor that fits". Hence my drive in a couple of weeks. My college room mate uses Dr Malley for her fills. She had the surgery in Mexico and he's the only doctor (local enough) who'd do it. shell
14. :phanvan Hi, I've been playing the game with my insurance company and was denied. Then changed companies and they don't cover it. So I'm not entertaining doctors. I have one localy but just am not impressed by him or his office staff, I'm sad to say. Now, I'm traveling 219 miles to visit with another doctor. Anyone in the car for 3 to 4 hours after surgery... please fill me in. Any help is highly appreciated.
