    First consultation!!!!

Hey People...I've got my first ever consultation coming up on August 1st. I got to say that I am rather nervous. Can anyone tell me what to expect? or at least some words of encouragement. I believe that I will get approved for it, my BMI is a 40. But what concerns me alot, say I do get approved and everything how will my friends look at me when or if I tell them about doing the surgery? How did your friends and/or family react? I feel like I am going to get negative feedback from them...Thanks guys!:cry

    Help..

Hi lap-band people...I have been on here before. It has been awhile though. I'm feeling as thought this weight thing has beat me though. Doctors insist that its as easy as a diet 1-2-3 and thats it. I have been big my whole life. I love food, but who doesn't LOL. I am very confident in myself, I know I am beautiful. But i am not confident in my ability to lose weight on my own. I am at my biggest. 270 pounds..on a 5'4 frame. I have always been big though and I know that a simple diet will not work for me. I like the prospects of trying the lap-band surgery. But my doctor will not even think of it. She says that I am too young and basically says that its taking the lazy way out. I am twenty years old. And i have dreams of entering the United States Navy after I graduate with my bachelors from college. Which will be in another two years. Most of my family is big, infact alot of them have gotten the gastric bypass surgery which I believe is too intensive for me. I Just need some advice I guess. Ia m sure that this is what I want to do. i am in the process of trying to find a new doctor who will at least hear me out. Is there anything anyone call tell me that one help me out in "convincing" a doctor that this is the right thing for me. I am a happy healthy, almost twenty year old female. Who wants to live the rest of her life, but I need help...

    Help..

OK well it seems as though all of you guys have done all of your research. I am just beginning. Are there any hints as to what I can contain in an information packet for my doctor. This is what I want to do, and I want to do it before it is too late. And also just to let you guys know I did speak with a Navy officer and they stated that the Lap Band surgery would not hinder my chances, or anyone Else's of getting into the Navy

    Help..

Thanks guys for the reassurance. And I will definitely talk to the recruiters about that one. I know that the navy out of all of the branches is one of the most lenient ones though. SO i have hope. Dawn NH...I am very close to there infact I used to go to Hesser College. Did you get your surgery done there? I am also very concerned with, when I do get that far a good surgeon to choose. Well guys I must say I really do appreciate your support. I know I need it!

    Boston?

Hi guys! I am form boston and was hoping that maybe someone could give me a few doctors that i could contact while going through the process of searching for a good doctor and contemplating the surgery. I was so worried that i would have to go to some far away place to get the surgery such as mexico or something it was a big turn off but now things are looking up. I would love to hear your opinions on getting the surgery? I am scared of adverse affects after the surgery such as death? sickness? and all that I am a big girl but I am in very good health I dont want that to change

  9. Hi guys! I've been researching this alot and I am thinking it is a good choice for me. I am rather intimidated though because I have notice that most of the people in here are bout in their 30's or 40's..I am only 19. I have been overweight almost all of my life. Vanity wise I am happy with myself, but I dont want to do it for vanity. In order to fullfill my dreams I need to lose weight and i've tried so many diets, nothing seems to work. In about 2 years or so i would like to join the United States Navy and to do so I need to lose about 100 or so pounds. Do you guys think I am too young for the surgery? Will I be able to have kids after the surgery? right now I weigh around 260 and I have a BMI of about 43.9. Thats is really high! I want to live a full and happy life. I need advice guys! thank you for your time and please be honest don't sugar coat anything. I am a big girl I can take it <---no pun intended HeHeHe
