    Dr. Gonzalez Support Thread

The few friends that I have referred to Dr. G have found Laura to be very, very helpful in finding fill doctors near their area. Give her a call, maybe she can help. It's great to hear that you have support from the people around you at work, it's seldom like that. Often times you'll find someone thin critizising weight loss surgery........yeah like anyone without a weight control problem would know!

You are doing good. Maybe a higher rate of weight loss is not so good is you are having kidney problems. Take it easy and lose that weight at your own pace. CaliforniaNurse welcome to our group!! Is it any easier being a nurse and around doctors after having the lap band? What do you think Judy? With your sister as a band partner....... jen6740 how are you? I hope it all went well for you with Dr. G and you got back home alright. Tell us about it!. I think I'm at a small plateau at this point, but I'm ok with it because I know after a couple of weeks my body's metabolism will kick in and I'll be back on the saddle. I didn't lose any weight last week at all, but I think I felt a little loose in a pair of new jeans that were a little tighter. or maybe it's wishful thinking. NewBlew I got mine about a week after surgery, maybe you should contact Dr. V...Well I gotta get back to work guys, check with you all later!!

I have now reached my first big goal! It's official!!! I have lost 50 pounds! I hope you all had a happy and safe New Year's celebration. I look forward to 2008 being my year when I can finally shop and dress and live like I WANT to, not like I HAVE to. Getting the lap band has been the best thing I've done for myself. I hope you have all been as successful as I have, and may 2008 be bring the same satisfactions to all.

Sunshine its good to know you've hit your sweet spot with the adjustment! I hit my sweet spot at my third fill and have been doing great since. Judy and NewBlew I got that nasty taste also and I know it was the floxstat, so as soon as that was over I was back to normal. I wish you all a happy New Year and may you work hard at reaching all resolutions so that they may become reality. Lots of hugs for everyone!

Welcome NewBlew, it's when you have the band that the work really begins, you'll reach goal weight sooner than you think! Glad to hear you had a good experience, that's pretty much how it all went for me. Did you finish decorating your Xmas tree? Sunshine it looks like you got a little confident with taking the big pills. Some of those you really have to cut up in two or three pieces. Have you done better so far? No more heaving?

I hope you are feeling better sunshine, did you eat too fast? Sometimes it takes a couple of days of liquids after the fills to get back in your routine, I usually can keep eating normally just a little slower and with a WHOLE LOT of chewing. Take good care of yourself! Newblew, wish you the best and hope everything turns out great for you.

You are lucky! Angioedema almost killed my cousin , peanut allergy. When that happened I read up on it and never ran across any references to kidney damage, but, who knows that's better left to the experts. I read the hereditary angioedema may affect the GI tract with a lot of pain and vomiting. It sounds like you're in good hands and you have good doctors, I wish you the best and hope you get better. I'll keep you in my thoughts Sunshine. Make sure you mention all this to doctor G.

That's the right attitude NM Sunshine, it's hard getting bad news from your doctor but as hard as it is remember that binging will only make things worse so a here's a big hug :girl_hug: and try to get back on the "wagon". Let us know what your nephrologist says and count on us for support.

I'm sure that NewBlew started this thread as a means for Dr. Gonzalez Patients to support EACH OTHER. If you read the previous posts on this thread you will see what I mean. It has been a place where most of us have found usefull tidbits of information, as with most of the other threads on this great forum. If you have been banded I'm sure you have some useful advice on lap band life we can all learn from and thank you for.oxoxoxox

LoL...like the other 99.99% of us, I'm sure. But humor aside, stuffing our face alone does not an obese person make. My friend Libby eats like a horse and has a beautiful body, so does most of her family. Genes and what not. So some of the factors cited by Sunshine play a huge role in our face stuffing outcome. (stuffing, get it?..in reference to the holiday..haha) Once more Happy Thanksgiving!

    I want it OUT!

Vomiting and diarrhea sounds like a bug. If you have temperature it may be. Call your doc. We'll root for you, hang in there and don't give up on your band yet, it's way to soon.

Hi everyone. Great to hear from you Vmills and Gigi! You know Sunshine everyday we are hearing more and more research about obesity. I think that in time our kids and grandkids may have this serious epidemic under control, with our help. It's up to us to advocate as well for the benefits of a healthier life. Most people on this forum have had the courage, will and determination to not only advocate but be an example to others. Lets keep it up! One of Dr. G's first questions whenever you go see him, "tell me about your exercise..." and right about there is where most of us either look away or go"..huh? well I've been thinking about it..." Well, here's a little bit of information I read recently that will serve as consolation: "There is a misconception that actively exercising is the only way to make a healthy difference in an otherwise sedentary lifestyle. However, Hamilton's studies found that standing and other non-exercise activities burn many calories in most adults even if they do not exercise at all." Then it goes on to say: "Hamilton hopes that creative strategies in homes, communities and workplaces can help solve the problem of inactivity. Some common non-exercise physical activities that people can do instead of sitting include performing household chores, shopping, typing while standing and even fidgeting while standing. Given the work of muscles necessary to hold the body's weight upright, standing can double the metabolic rate. Hamilton believes that scientists and the public have underestimated common activities because they are intermittent and do not take as much effort as a heavy workout." I read this article and I said YEEEES! I'm sending it to Dr. G so next time I can answer "well....I stood up for x amount of time...went shopping for xxxx amount of time..." So you read it guys and gals, lets go shopping! 123...shop.....123.....shop....123...shop!!!!! For the entire article click here: Stand Up To Decrease Risk Of Disease

I wonder if you can turn the twinkie inside out AND THEN fry it. Glazing of course, would be after frying it and the ice cream after that. Kind of like an extreme American tempura...

OMLA: Thanks for the play by play and we're all glad everything turned out great. Let us know how you do with your first two weeks post surgery. That was the toughest period for me. Dr. V told you about Calorie Counter, Diet Tracking, Food Journal, Nutrition Facts at The Daily Plate , it's a very good site. I use it and it sure helps, I like it better than the other one. NM sunshine you're right! Those traffic circles are scary at first. A huge intersection with no clear lanes it just feels wrong but I guess the locals have it down pretty good. A little European flavor to it.

If you lube your food, you can eat almost anything!!! For example, I started to make a list of food that comes with lubricant allready in it!! The first I tried was TWINKIES. I turn the twinkie inside out so that leaves the creamy stuff on the outside and you can have TWO of them with no problem. The chocolates with the creamy cherry middle, same thing. Just turn them inside out and you are home with up to four of these bits of mana!! Please contribute to this list, because the person posting with the tastiest treat wins a trip for two to Vegas!!!!

    Mexico ?

The more patient traffic there is, the higher the probability for mistakes to be made. Probability and statistics. Who hasn't heard of the patient that got the good kidney removed? Especially here in the US where hospitals, doctors and nurses are overloaded with work. It's sad but ugly stories happen all over the world, and if we go by the numbers it's probably more frequent in the good 'ol U.S. due to the higher volume of patients and understaffed hospitals. Score wasa, research is the key word. Though I am concerned about any doctor giving out confidential patient info. :cry

It's good to know everything turned out fine and your trip in "bandland" begins. Are you glad you went with dr. G and his team? I was very pleased with my surgery and the whole experience. Check in this thread whenever you need advice! The real work starts at home though. I had a little bit of a hard time controlling my appetite at first but after the third and fourth weeks it really sank in and I realized that it is a complete lifestyle change. Kikival, if you're close to TJ you'll be getting free fills, that's great! Newblew you'll be surprised how time flies. You'll be back home newly banded before you know it! Just make sure you stock up on your liquids and other groceries before you leave for TJ so you don't have to go out while in recovery. It's been a good veteran's day for me, I wish you all the same. For all our vets out there I wish the best. Always in my thoughts and prayers.

Onenonly give your parents links to positive information on lap band surgery, maybe they don't have enough info on the subject. NM sunshine We will read about good and bad on doctors in the U.S. and Mexico. We need to know that anyone can post anything they please. Truths and lies alike. Our own experience and research is the best source of information. Like Ken Mills wrote in his article on picking your surgeon: Do not believe everything you read on the internet, good or bad. Be skeptical. As for spreading good or bad, I suggest we leave that for other threads and try to stick to support of one another and any newly banded people that ask about lap band life. At least in this thread. Newblew named it: Dr. Gonzalez Support Thread.

    Assisted Suicide/Interesting Reading

Chronically unhappy or chronically ill? or both? Sometimes judgment may be impaired, but a mentally sound individual knows when his/her life is over. I have seen it up close on two occasions. Two people very near and dear to my heart that lived through the worst and bravely fought terminal illness simply said "I'm tired, I want to rest". After years of struggling, suffering, and seeing the fighting spirit in their eyes slowly wear away. In the end you know they keep fighting mostly for you because they know you are suffering. For the loving and unselfish watching us suffer hurts them more than their own pains. We urge such people to fight and not give up because it's hard for us to say goodbye. The least we can do for these brave individuals is respect their decision and let them go. It's easy to have opinions one way or the other, in good or fair health with death nowhere near in sight. The poll would be a little biased, don't you think?
