You are obviously one of the people who are not suited to laparoscopic surgery and it will be done via a normal 'open' incision in these circumstances. If this happens, you will take a little longer to recover from the bigger incision, but it should not adversely affect your subsequent weight loss progress. You might have to be off work a bit longer. I don't think it makes too much difference but you will need to be a little bit for careful to avoid infection e.g. taking a shower may not be allowed for longer after the op. So essentially a little more unpleasant but hey that weight loss potential is the same, so good luck :-)

Hi, I have been on my pre-op diet since Saturday last and have lost 10 Ibs. Just on protein drinks 4 times a day and a couple of apples and have found it much easier than expected. I was offered similar to you, i.e. veg etc but decided no, I would keep in simple by keeping myself right out of the kitchen. I thought I would really struggle but perhaps my brain has simply said I can't cheat because if I cheat even once then my liver will expand and I may delay the surgery I have so looked forward to. It isn't worth it. Good luck and be strong.

Living in UK I have never of Edy even as a brand :-) but it must be working, wow 40 Ibs, brilliant, well done.

Sorry to hear you are having a tough time, suggest you discuss with your surgeon or dietian, sound worse than it should be. Good luck.

I start my liquid diet on the 27th March for RNY on 10th but trying to build towards it but replacing 1 and for a few days 2 meals.

Wow 130Ibs, so impressed, well done. Can you say why at first you thought you had made a mistake....hunger, pain, missing solid foods, chocs etc?

Couple of days ago heard of someone who suffered badly when they had bypass surgery...permanent pain and all that. It was 20 or 25 years ago. Hope the surgery techniques have improved or maybe some people simply don't react well to this sort of surgery. Anyway I have heard so many positive cases that it doesn't put me off at all, not even a tiny bit. My dad had a heart attack last Saturday, he is overweight but 78 years old. He is ok now but it made me doubly determined because at 53 now I know I won't even make it to 78 if I don't do something drastic.

Fine thanks, on my diet already in preperation. Have my surgeon, dietian etc meeting on the 28th March and surgery if all ok on 10th April. They require strict diet for 2 weeks but decided, based on what I have read in this forum, to start ahead of time to shrink the liver properly. Not easy I must say but obviously important :-)

Thanks, one hears stories of Gastric Bypass failures, so thanks everyone for support :-)

Great to see these success stories, gives one encouragement for the coming surgery. Thanks.

Yep it is disappointing, its a big committment and once made, one just wants to get on with it.

That's very kind but I will find UK equivalents or already distributed ones thanks. Shipping from the States shouldn't be necessay. There are protein drinks here, I just need to find a good one, will ask the Dietian. Thanks though

Can't buy Bariatric Advantage in UK, anybody happen to know a good alternative in this country, thanks.

Bought a moleskin notebook yesterday. Putting things like questions for the surgeon/dietian, before and after photos, weights and food diary pre and post op. anybody else done this? I hope to look back on it and use it as my reminder of what I went through and perhaps help to keep me on the path.

Great, yep its a handsome notebook with elastic closure, something that's a pleasure to open. Good to hear somone else has tried it. My op is 10th April....can't wait to get it all going now I have committed.
