Sending good thoughts your way!

And I had a drain but it came out before I left the hospital. Mine was to collect fluid and do a dye test (ech) for leakage before I left the hospital.

Surgery Tomorrow Need Help
aleyampat replied to disneynut02's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Glad to hear you're home:) -
Hi, everyone. Looking for opinions cause I know that everyone is different. My surgery was last Thursday. Came home last Saturday. In the hospital I had a morphine PCA (don't think it helped) and was supplemented with toradol every 6 hours (my best friend). I came home on percocet. I was taking 2 every 6 hours. Took away my pain almost completely and lasted about 5.5 hours. I was feeling great. But the percocet has run out. Tylenol isn't cutting it. What to do? I feel like I'm being one of those (sorry age group) whined ass 30-40 year olds who scream and get hysterical over pain while the 90 year old in the next bed says, "no honey, I'm perfectly fine." I'm not quite a week out. So here's the opinion portion. I'm having what I would call a 7-8 pain on the left side below my breast and over my rib cage on the left side. This happens to be where my JP had been located. I'm going to call for more pain medicine in the morning cause this pain is going to keep immobile and I want NOTHING to put the brakes on my recovery. Did/does anyone else have this much pain 6 days out? I may just be crazy thinking I shouldn't still hurt this bad;( What are everyone else's experiences?

Law, What were your symptoms besides pain? Any fever, shortness of breath, coughing, etc?
-
I'm trying a heating pad now:) Fingers double crossed that it gets an official name as my new friend:)
-
I have not Kiwilaydee. I've been using ice. Maybe I need to switch. Did the heat help a lot?
-
Kiwilaydee, Gives me hope that I'm not crazy and that there isn't something more wrong with me:) I'm on day 6 so hopefully mine will abate soon.

Not as far away as Southern California either;)

I started my full liquids today!! I am so excited. More choices than broth, cold drinks and broth and more and more broth:(
-
Violet, I should have said was. They pulled mine before I left the hospital on Sat. I'm very happy to hear your pain level is good. I'm looking forward to that day:) As long as I have pain meds I'm good. Lol! Other than that area the rest of my body is pain free. Maybe I was extra sensitive to the drain:( People keep suggesting gas pain. I get gas pains occasionally, too. The 2 pains are definitely different.
-
Violet, I am also 6 days out!! Yay!! I'm glad your pain is good. Mine however is bad. It's just one area where my JP drain is located. It is much better than in was 6 days ago but I still need pain meds to function normally.

I'm taking 6. Period:) I'm almost one week out and I can't imagine going back to work a week from now.

Absolutely awesome!! Keep up the great work!!

Surgery Date 06/01/2012

I had my surgery 6/7. I am also having a tough time intaking all my protein. I feel full so quickly. I'm lucky to get 75% in and certainly there is no room for extra fluids. I'm also still having a lot of pain. I push myself to walk hoping it will help but it hasn't so far. I'm keeping my head up though. Everyone keeps saying it gets better. -
Finally the wait came to an end of June 7th. I am now 3 days post op. Came home yesterday. For some idiotic reason I thought I would not have post op pain. Lol!! I'm an RN. I know better. The pain was immense for the first 2 days in the hospital. I'm not really sure the morphine worked but the toradol certainly was my best friend:) Now I'm having a hard time taking in all my protein. Any one else have these issues? Also my doc said cut my daily insin to 15 units. My sugar is hanging in the low 110's. I'm not comfortable taking the insulin. I'm across that I'll become hypoglycemic and be unable to respond because of the pain. Any one else have similar issues?

Surgery Tomorrow Need Help
aleyampat replied to disneynut02's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Were there bigger bottles? I didn't even have to do a bowel prep before mine. Completely surprised me. But each surgeon has his/her own rules. I'm just used to all my gyn surgery pts having had bowel preps prior. If they said 1/2 a bottle and there weren't like 60 ounce bottles there I'd say you're good. -

How much did they tell you to drink? In the hospital we make our girls drink boat loads of it before surgery. -
Good luck Nicole! Can't wait to hear all about your journey!!
-
Congrats!!! Cant wait to hear how it all went:)

Ocean, I have jello and juicy juice that I drink/eat along a with my protein. I'm looking forward to full liquids so I can have more variety. Maybe then I'll be awake enough to intake all my protein. I'm still so tired. I take a walk. Take a nap. Take a shower. Take a nap. My pain is better and better each day. I hope by Day 7 I can get out and take long walks:) I'm not used to this much sleep!!

Thanks, Esther! Makes me feel much better about not taking mine. I intend to call the office today and ask. I'm definitely not trying to be "a difficult patient" but i also don't want to unintentionally cause problems.

I am a brand new member to this forum. I am going to have my gastric bypass surgery very soon. My surgeon's office sent the paperwork to my insurance company for approval. I know they'll approve but it's now a waiting game:( I'm excited, scared, anxious, elated, and a whole bunch more adjectives!! Looking forward to getting to know everyone and gain what I feel to be a very important support system!!

Just heard from docs office. EGD on April 17th. Nutrition counseling on April 24th. We will schedule on the 24th of April:) So I'm looking at a beginning of June date. I'm excited and a little upset. I was really hoping for April surgery. Ah well. At least Insurance approved and we are again moving forward.
