A thread for super-sized bandsters - starting BMI over 50?
fairydust replied to Wheetsin's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
[quote=whosyadaddy;555837 Ok did you ever hear of Hemel Hempstead? Thats where i lived and worked and played all over London every day. I miss it sometimes. I like the big city feel. I think i would be happy living in New York City for a while. Yes! I used to go shopping there fairly regularly! I origionally lived in Chalfont then moved to Uxbridge but I am now on the south coast which is lovely. I am feeling really frustrated, I lost loads of weight in my pre-op stage and then the first week out but I have not lost a pound this week on my liquid diet!! I don't see how that is possible!! Any tips to start it moving again or am I being impatient?!! -
I just had a call from the nurse and she said I could take off my dressings and strips. All are fine except my port site, it is still quite open and a bit wet. I am 10 days post op, do you think this is normal? It doesn't look inflamed or anything but I would have expected it to be closed! Shall I leave the dirty strips on?

I thought getting thin would solve all our problems but I now think it is going to cause more! I am only at the start of my journey and already arguments are starting over money, all our differences seem to be coming to the forefront and I am seriously on the brink of leaving if he won't. But how do you know when to stop trying, after 7 years I have dedicated all my life to him and now I don't know what to do?! This is supposed to be an exciting time for me but I am so worried about things.

not sure about how so many people are getting it done on the NHS. I think it depends a lot on which are you are in and how much that trust is in debt!! Also there arenot many GP's that support patients with being overweight, my GP was useless and "prescribed" 1hr cardio a day and eat less-which is easier said than done! I know it cost me loads but it is an investment in my future! -

Hiya, found this thread really inspiring. To see how much people are losing is great and you seem very supportive. I am from London and have always been massive! I used to tell myself I will be then by the time I finish school, then it was at the end of College, then uni and it got to the stage where I knew a diet wasn't gonna do it! The most I ever lost was 6st (84lbs) but then I started to put that back on. I got back up to 340lbs and I knew I had to do something, so I took the plunge and got in touch with a private health company who specialised in bariatric surgery and within 6 weeks I was booked in! I got banded on the 25th August and including the pre-op diet I have lost 25lbs to date. I have to lose the equivalent of 2 children (quite big ones!) but I don't care, I finally feel like this is gonna work. I have never been thin so I don't know what I look like but already I feel great and I have noticed that without the sugar and bread I am not having cravings for stodgy food and chocolate. Maybe Atkins really was onto something!! The British still don't really go in for low carb but I reckon when I can eat again I'm gonna do a low fat version! Anyway just wanted to join in because I am on a long wagon ride and thought some company would be nice!! -
any advice for preop lapbanders??
fairydust replied to sexysoon's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
1. Follow your pre-op diet to the letter, your weight loss will be great and you are ensuring your surgery is hassel free 2. Have a massive blow out before you start your pre-op and really understand that you can never do that again-you will be able to eat all foods eventually but just little bits. I did this and I truely devoted myself to this journey and I am not missing food yet because I know in a few weeks I can start to have some and I don't want to binge like I used to. 3. Promise yourself you will stick to the post op liquid diet-it is for your own good, you want to heal properly! Make sure you have things ready for you to do once your back home instead of eat!! I didn't realise how mush I ate just becasue I was bored and had nothing better to do. I have been watching films I hadn't got round to, doing short walks round the garden, quizzes and reading. When your feeling better treat yourself to reward your hard work, I am gonna have my hair done next week! I am only 5 days post-op so I am new to all this, but I have not had a terible time and I am not physically hungry-it is all in my head!! The pain is not that bad so you should be able to start doing small things quickly like washing up. I already know this is the best thing I have ever done, I have already lost over 20lbs since :whoo:I started pre-op so take full advantage of your first few weeks!! -
Just wondered if anyone knows if you are allowed to have communion wine at mass, and I suppose the wafer in phase one after the op?? Would love to know if you have done it. Also today I did my first burp! (4days post-op) and it was a frightening experience!! Am I allowed to burp? I know it is the gas going which is excellent but all the rest went out the other way! It hurt slightly but felt ok-I know this is a stupid question but do you still burp with a band???!! I am analysing every little twinge, I have no idea how my band feels! At least I am not hungry just constantly sipping. I can get down about 200mls in 25 mins now which I think is ok, I am terryfied of stretching my pouch!! Including my pre-op diet I have now lost 18lbs and I have my chin back!!:clap2:

Hiya everyone, well I did it! Feeling quite good today but still need to get rid of this gas!! All went well but the surgeon put me on a course of blood thinners for the week following surgery, my OH has just inkected me with it-very nerve racking!! Kinda made me scared about developing blood clots! I am just starting to drink enough, I was worried I would ruin all the hard work the surgeons did but I seem to be getting there! I am analysing every little pain, is it the band, did I take too big a sip, is it gas??!! Can't wait to feel better and understand my new friend bella!!
-
I'm doing well, the gas is moving but still quite puffed out!! I have literally only just managed to go for a #2!! I felt like I had won the lottery, but it was because I had upped the amount I had been drinking. It is really hard to get the Protein in but I am just taking it slow and hopefully will get it in. It has taken me about 45 mins to drink my shake this morning-which is faster than yesterday!! The only thing I am not sure about is follow up checks, do they send us details? When do we need out incisions checked?? No-one has told me anything!! And I didn't get my Vitamins, did you get yours?? I am gonna give you a call later to see how you are anyway so we can have a proper catch up! I went and sat on the beach for an hour yesterday while it was sunny, reckon it did me a lot of good!!
-
Hiya everyone, thanls for thinking of me! I am doing ok, I am little scared of drinking too much but have been reassured that I can't! The gas pains are the worst part of it, my incisions are sore but not really enough to need pain medication and that doesn't help with the gas anyway! I am still trying to find a comfy position in bed but everyday is better so I am hoping I will get over it quickly. If anyone wants to ask me anything feel free. Speak soon xxx

welcome!! Where abouts in the SW are you? I am in Poole. I am being banded on Saturday and can't wait! Keep me posted on how you are doing.

Started my diet on wednesday and everything is going well, have lost 7lbs so far. The diet consists of a minimum of 4 Protein shakes, 2 soupd and 5 portions of fruit and veg. Since that is a minimum my question is do you think you can eat too much fruit and veg?? I stick to the shakes etc but I am eating tons of the other stuff!! I don't want to ruin my diet! Any thoughts greatfully recieved!

I have my first consultation on Tuesday and am really nervous, I have some of the obvious questions to ask but not sure what else. Can anyone tell me anything I should ask other that about complications, life after band etc. Also what can I expect from my consultation? I have had a look and a lot of the American bandsters talk about stuff which I don't thyink we do over here? I bumped into an old friend I went to school with yesterday and I felt so ashamed at the way I looked and she seemed so successful it actually made me cry, so I know I have to do this and go for it with all my strength!
-
Really excited, I had my consultation yesterday which was great and I have booked my op for 31st August!! I am excited but scared at the same time! If anyone has any pearls of wisdom to share I am all ears!! I can't wait, it shall be the start of a new me!!

Banding.....August 2007! Who else?
fairydust replied to JudiM's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello fellow bandsters! I am from the UK and my date for my band is the 31st August so I just managed to be part of your group!! I am a self pay patient and I am having my surgery in London, my surgeon is Dr John Rogers. It is through the Healthier Weight Center. I am very excieted but quite scared as well because I have never had an operation. I am currently weighing about 340lbs so I would like to lose 200lbs if I can but I know it is gonna take a while. I cannot believe I have got this big, but I I am not currently at my biggest. I studied at Cambridge and in my last year I put on a lot but managed to shift some of it before now. At the moment becasue I am young I am getting away with my weight I don't have any serious consequences but I am scared for my future if I do not do this. I wish us all good luck!! -
Hi Everyone! I'm new here and this is my first post! I have a consultation booked with Healthier Weight at the end of the month and was wondering if anone had any experience with them. So far I am impressed! I have always struggled with my weight and I really feel this is my only hope! I am now over 23st and although I have been nearer 30st I need something extra to help me! Any wise words to help me on my journey are much appreciated! How do you prepare yourself for this?
