    New, Wanted To Say Hi!

Hello Diddle...welcome to the boards I'm just starting my new process...lapband was removed in 2/2010. I went back to my surgeon for the RNY in October but, have decided to go with a new bariatric center. Attended my first meeting today and ready to start the testing and appointments How are you feeling?

    The Journey Now Begins

    How are things going Tor?
  4. Panda, I would think there was something wrong if you had NO anxiety. I think it's perfectly natural to have it because it is a big decision and a serious surgery. But RNY has been around for a long time and surgeries have become so much more advanced as well as the testing to make sure things are ok before they close you up from the surgery. I know I'm nervous and I've only started the process and I've had lapband surgery with two revisions already prior. But if you know this surgery is for you and in the end it's going to help you out...concentrate more on that Good luck!

Have I Made My Final Decision?

Hello Tx I just came back from my information night and they basically stated the sleeve is available but, most insurances don't pay for it and because of the staples used, there is a high risk of ulcers and bleeding. They do do tests to make sure the bleeding doesn't happen but, they said just like a staple when stapling paper sometimes they don't close all the way. They also said there isn't long enough studies on the sleeve for them to give info more than 5-6 years out like they can with the lapband or RNY. So with that, they think the RNY is the better surgery because of the results they already know. Just what I learned today anyway. I was already set on the RNY after having had the lapband already. I just know for me I need the malabsorbtion to help me get to my goal. Definitely do your research and I wish you the best with your surgery.

    Gaining Weight

Hello Luvmetru, Have you considered calling your nutrionist from your bariatric center and starting up with them again? Maybe a few visits to get you started on the right track again so you can lose the weight? I know it's not easy, we're all here because it's not easy, that's for sure. I wish you the best and hope you find what helps to kick things back up for ya.

    failure of bypass

well...we have the surgery to help us not be as hungry and to lose weight but, along with it it's a total mental game. WE fixed our digestive system but, we also need to work on fixing our head - break old habits, figure out what causes us to over eat, learn to mindfully eat...learn to not eat our emotions. I think that's the hardest part of any weightloss surgery but, I'm SO ready for it. I've been working on the mental aspects of it for more than 5 months now and I truly feel it's going to help me with this surgery and after the surgery. it's true peeps who don't follow through with the eating rules and follow-up post op visits tend to gain it back or sometimes even worse, keep losing weight the unhealthy way. They don't eat their Protein, don't take their Vitamins.....that to me is a risk I'm not willing to take. That to me is someone who didn't do the work prior to having the surgery. Pretty scary. Do your homework before your surgery......follow the recommendations. WE're not perfect but, we certainly can do the best we can with the tools we have and THAT will make us successful

    15 Months Post Op

Hello adot and nik, Great weightloss! I haven't had RNY yet but, I'm in the process. I did have the lapband but, that was removed in 2010 due to a really bad prolaps. Hairloss, from what I'm told happens - I had it with the band too. They basically told me to make sure my Protein intake was at the levels they told me to take in and some folks were taking the Biotin like you said. Glad to hear it's stopped though and that it's filling in for you. nik - as far as emotional eating. It's probably one of the hardest things to work your way through but you can do it. I'm currently working with a therapist on that myself. It was one of the requirements for my surgery but, I'm going to keep seeing her and work through it all because even as I lose the weight with the RNY, I think I can use it so I don't get back to this again. Basically, I do a breathing exercise when I'm noticing my hunger or craving is due to emotions. I take two seconds and take a deep breath, hold it for a second and release it. It slows me down and clears my head. Of course it's getting in the habit of doing that BEFORE you grab the food. Another thing is to ask yourself am I hungry or is it head hunger? If it's head hunger...then chew a piece of gum or brush your teeth...then go for a walk, meditate, dance to one song...something, anything to get the thought out of your head. 5 minutes will do it...YOU can do it I wish you the best fighting that battle. I so, so understand where you're coming from but, YOU know you can do it

Hello BMooney...My band slipped too TWICE! You're right in not having it reattached or corrected. I went that route and after the revision never had the band fill right again. It was either too tight or too lose, to the point where I always felt sick and struggled with losing anything. I ended up with a severe prolaps to where I was basically cooking from the inside out because of all the acid. My band was no longer pointing toward my left shoulder it was looking toward my left foot, that's how bad it was. I was in the process of RNY going through the tests, motions etc got it all done then bingo....bariatric group wanted me to see a therapist for at least 5 visits so I could work out the reasons why the weight didn't stay off so that even after having RNY I won't gain it back like some RNY patients do and I have to lose 20 pounds. Dang if I could lose 20 maybe I wouldn't need RNY LOL....so saw the therapist already, now working on the 20. This is going to take a while...too boot add an insurance change and here we go again. Start the process all over. I wish lots of luck with your journey
  19. That's cool Alex. How about for the Android?

Nectar Protein Powder By Syntrax - ?

The bariatric center I'm going to gave me a sample but, I haven't tried it yet. If I like that one, I'm going to order a sample pack of the flavors because it's sort of pricey (what Protein shake isn't really) in the larger containers. Then I'll know which ones I like and don't like. I'll definitely let you know What Protein shakes have you tried and liked?

    Leanne's Gastric Bypass Story

Welcome to RNYTalk Leanne, I'm on the journey to RNY too. I've done all my assigned tasks and waiting to hear if the bariatric group is ready for me to meet a surgeon and set a date. I'm hoping it goes through before the end of December because I just heard today that my insurance is changing as of January 1st. Nothing like throwing a glitch but, we'll see what happens. I had the lapband put in, on Feb 3th 2006, revision of the lapband in December 2008 and then it had to come out in Feb 2010 due to severe prolapse. It's taken me a little over a year to come to terms with all that and the again realization that I need help to stay on track. I know I have to work on my "mind hunger" and the lapband helped me get through those tough times....now it's time for RNY to help me make the goal. I'm looking forward to that journey and happy to have folks here for support. So I wish you the best on your journey too!
