    Constipation After Surgery

Best thing to do is always to call your bariatic center/surgeon to find out what they recommend. Each group is different but, in the end if you end up with an issue at least you followed their instructions so they know the next step to take.

    Lesson Learned!

Oh so sorry that happened. I have a feeling it happens to the best though and that's how we really do learn just how slowly we have to eat. I know when I finally have the surgery it's going to be mostly shakes for me at work. For home I bought baby utensils to use so that I remind myself to slow down. Any other tricks folks use might be a great thing to share on a separate thread!

    Hungry Or Not ?

Head hunger CAN be tough to say the least. I had it with my lapband and heck still do. One thing I try to do is when I start craving something or "think" I'm hungry, I'll sip at my Water more. If after a few sips it goes away then it's head hunger...if it's still there and my stomach feels achy then I know I'm really hungry. Hopefully that will still work for me when I have the RNY

What Protein Shakes Do You Use?

How is the sugar content in those Law? vamp - I don't think I ever answered you on the PB2. It's Peanut Butter powder...basically peanut butter with the fat taken out of it. YOu can mix it into your Protein drinks for added protein and it helps with the after taste of some protein powders.

What Protein Shakes Do You Use?

Cool, I'll pick some up. Did you use Cherry Koolaid for the cherry syntrax? Or did you invent flavors?

What Protein Shakes Do You Use?

vamp...I tried the twisted cherry and oh lord the after taste turned me off. Do you add anything to yours to not have that after taste? ....if you mix it really cold does it help? I had mine cold but, not with crushed ice or anything. Maybe I need to try that. I was thinking of adding some koolaid (without the sugar) to it to see if it would help. Suggestions? Now the Syntrex Mint cookie...I loved it and the pure Protein chocolate love that one too. I've been using the Capella flavorings too and it's great to add the coconut and toasted almond to the chocolate shake. Yumm
  19. John....when I saw the therapist just last week she told me they're acutally thinking of offering bypass to diabetes patients because it's been so successful in helping with the disease. So folks who don't necessarily have to lose weight may also be getting the surgery to cure their diabetes. She said it's because of the re-routing that's done, it helps keep the sugar spikes and lows more even. CAn't explain it like she did. I don't have diabetes but, we talk about the surgery and she happened to mention it. I thought that tid bit was quite interesting. It also made me realize if they're going to offer the surgery to folks who don't need to lose weight then it's safer than it used to be.

JenniferD - I had the lapband put in Feb 2006, had it revised Dec 2008 then ultimately removed after a really bad prolasp Jan 2010. The first year was wonderful, I lost over 80 pounds and kept it off for about 6 months until the first slip happened. I had it revised and the doc put in a bigger band and after that it was a few years of heck for me. fills, unfills, fills and then unfill. Many, many nights of not being able to sleep because the reflux was so bad that I'd wake up feeling like I was drowning. Still, if it had stayed for me like the first year I would have kept going. Not everyone has slips but, unfortnately a high percentage do end up with issues such as reflux and weight gain again. The bad foods go through the band better than healthy so when you're suffering with all of I mentioned you eat those things to get something down. What I didn't know was that 90% of folks who have had a revision of the lapband to another band or to correct that band end up with it being removed. Had I known i wouldn't have bothered with the revision. Now...that's just my story and many many folks love their bands. One of my best friends still does well with hers, doesn't feel sick etc but, she'll be the first to admit she eats around it and hasn't lost weight in a while. I did the band because I was afraid of the re-routing of organs etc that bypass has to go through but, now for me.....rny is the what I need to do. Alot has changed since 2006 and it's become even safer so I'm more comfortable with it. I've had many friends do very very well with it. I"ve done lots of research and now am comfortable heading in that direction. I do wish you the best with your decision...definitely talk to all your docs about your situation. We're all different and just because some had issues with any of the bariatric choices doesn't mean you will
