Help! I Am Having Gorging Problems!

It's something that got us here in the first place that we need to learn how to deal with before surgery and it's important to keep working at it during the whole process and even more so after the surgery. You're not alone. I find I have to talk to myself ALOT to get thinking the right way. Food has been comfort whether we admit it or not. I know for me I've had to learn to replace that comfort with other things when I'm stressed. It's been a long process and some days I don't do so well....especially the day my surgery was denied a 2nd time. But what I was happy about was it wasn't an ALL day thing that it used to be. So you'll get there. If you're serious about the surgery, start working and preparing yourself for stressful time and what you'll do instead of eating. Lots of books out there to read about RNY surgery and helpful hints in them about this exact thing. I wish you the best with the start of your journey! July 11 is my next date for my surgery...hoping my insurance approves it this time.

Looking To Start The Gastric Bypass Buddy Threads

eglean I've been denied twice. We're going yet again for a 3rd time. I see my PCP next friday to obtain what the insurance claims they need and I'll try again. I have a date for 7/11 so hoping it gets approved this time around.
  4. I just had all my pre-op testing done today and I asked the surgeon if there was a pre-op diet they wanted me to follow. I was told to basically do what I was doing and lose more weight if possible but, definitely do not gain. Well seems to me, there would be something mores strict at least within 3-4 days of the surgery but, nope. The PA I asked said where she trained they had one and she was in the process of suggesting it at this hospital but, consider myself grandfathered because they haven't implemented any changes yet. Well...to be honest...whatever is going to keep the safest during surgery I'll do! So I'd like to know if you're on a pre-op or if you had a pre-op diet...what was it? For how long did you have to do it? Any info would be helpful Thank you

    40's New Beginnings

During the process of getting a date we had several visits one of which was called an Immersion day. Well during that the therapist spoke to us and one thing she said was ......younger folks their skin usually has the elasticity to bounce back but for us that were in our 40s or older...well...she said "sorry ladies, but you may start to look older as you lose weight, the boob will become deflated and look like empty tube socks and the skin will sag" WE laughed but, at the same time. ewwwww. Looks like more surgery after all the weight is loss. Tummy tuck and boob lift.

Let's Help Each Other On Those Bad Days

When I had my lapband I went through losing hair after about 3 months post op. It slowed down and eventually stopped though. My hair didn't get really thin so I was lucky with that. Seems that it's all grown back after it too.

    100+ To Loose

Hi Ken, Insurance has been something else. Two denials for me. I just got the 2nd letter today. Three things left to get done I guess. I can't see my PCP until June 22 so they had to post pone my surgery. She's away on vacation and the covering provider won't give me the "medical release" they want from her. Stinks! But.....in will come in time.

I did see some biotin that was small gel type pills...but wasn't sure we could take those. I'll have to ask my surgeon if I see my hair falling out.

    40's New Beginnings

All good tips northwoodslady and I thank you for those! I have all my protein shakes, vitamins, shaker bottles, etc ready. Just before I'll pick up the other fresh ingredients I need like skim milk, yogurt, etc. I already bought new sweatpants/capris, tshirts etc. New bathrobe and slippers for the hospital and walking the halls after surgery. Then bingo...now have a new date as well. July 11 can't get here soon enough.

Helpful Tools That Help You With Your Rny Routines?

ONe of the other tools I just bought was a small thermos brand thermos from Amazon so that I can take soups to work. It comes with a cover you use as the bowl and a metal spool that attaches to the cover. It will keep the food inside it hot for 7 hours or cold for 9. Got the idea from a bariatric website.

Helpful Tools That Help You With Your Rny Routines?

My2nd I use Sparkpeople and I have the app on my phone as well. You can create your favorite foods to use each time or use the ones already in the program. It will track the protein for you and you have other choices on what you want it to track.

You're doing great Mel! Man I sure hope I can start this journey next month. I've had two rejections from my insurance so far. I see my PCP to in a few weeks and hopefully will get the final qualification the insurance wants.

    I Week Out.

Tammy - what about reading one of the many gastric bypass books out there. One that i found helpful and was recommended to me by my bariatric group was Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies. I found a lot of information in it along with recipes and great tips.

    Pre-Op Testing ?

My preop stuff was 6 vials of blood, EKG, quick physical and Chest Xray. I had had bloodwork about 4 weeks prior and they put me on my post op vitamins early.
