To The Emergency Room I Go...

yay glad they found it. -
If it's frozen shrimp I can bet if you let it thaw a bit you could actually pull the breading off. Then you could steam or quickly stir fry (with Pam) and have it that way. If it's the shrimp that tastes strange then maybe it does need to be thrown out. I wouldn't take your chances on seafood. Last think you want is to get sick from it. I can't say we were told to clean our plates but, we were definitely rewarded with sweets - homemade cookies, cakes and other desserts. Hence why they become "comfort food". We all get it from somewhere.....cultures, up-bringing, social obligations etc. We can fix our anatomy with this surgery but, our thoughts need to change as well. Definitely NOT an easy task to do but, it is do-able just takes some work. Constant work LOL

Feel Like Im Going To Be Sick

Yippee! Have a safe trip home! -
Each bariatric group has different limitations so you'll want to follow what your group recommends for you. I believe most groups thought, prefer our proteins to not be covered in crumbs, crackers, flour etc because they tend to want to keep the carb count pretty low and the protein count high. Best bet is to call your nutritionist or surgeon's office. Good luck!

Pre-Op Appointment!
LosingItForMe2011 replied to bekki03's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello bekki, I don't recall having any questions at my pre-op visit mainly because I asked them all along from the start. By now you probably already know how long your hospital stay will be and what the post-op diet is going to be etc. If not then that's something you'd want to ask. My surgeon's team had already set up my post-op visits based on the surgery date as well. If you have doubts or concerns about ANYTHING ask now! Good luck! -
Good luck to you all today. See you on the losing side

Feel Like Im Going To Be Sick
LosingItForMe2011 replied to Bambiv's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have noticed that if I'm drinking Water and my chair is a little slumped back it doesn't go down as easily as it does when I'm sitting up straight. I had a lot of burping for the first few weeks but, that seems to have eased up as well. Just have to remember they re-routed things in there so there is bound to be air and gases in there as well that need to come out and adjust themselves. It does get better Are you home now? -
ON the website but, I do log my food through my app so I don't forget.

I haven't had any issues with SparkPeople. They have a forum for RNY as well.

Im A Month Out How Many Calories Should I Be Comsumig
LosingItForMe2011 replied to nannon32's topic in Food and Nutrition
nannon - you'll read over and over on the boards how every surgery/bariatric group has different requirements or nutritional suggestions. The best bet is to call your group to find out how much Protein they want you to get in. Most groups go by protein vs calories. Men's protein goals are often different from women's as well. My surgeon's main concern is me getting the protein and fluids in. They haven't been concerned about calories yet. -
lovealways...call your surgeon's office. They'll tell you what you'll need to do. The folks in that office that do the billing for the surgeon/bariatric group will know what your specific insurance commonly looks for in order to approve folks for surgery. I was denied denied the first go round but, was approved a month later.

Headaches & Dizziness
LosingItForMe2011 replied to sweet's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do you take BP meds? I know I do and have to watch it because I've had that issue before when I didn't need the meds anymore and was taking them. I know have a wrist BP machine to monitor it. -

How far out from surgery are you? Have they also monitored your protein and fluid intake? -
It's natural to be scared! Any surgery is scary let alone one that changes your organs. You've taken the time to research this surgery, you decided this was best for you....you're going to do great!

SparkPeople has an app I'm using to track them both as well as my weight and exercise.

What To Know
LosingItForMe2011 replied to starlight06's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It's my understanding most folks end up with a drain but, not all. I for one did have a drain but, I also had more extensive surgery because it was a revision from LapBand to RNY. My surgery was on 7/11 and I went home with a drain. That drain came out on the following Monday, July 16th. The surgeon said she wanted to make sure all connections were set and that issues from scarring from my lapband didn't cause issues. -
New To The Site Had Surgery On 7/23/12
LosingItForMe2011 replied to Roman1's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello Roman1, It's not uncommon for folks to start an intolerance to milk based products and have to switch to soy based. Have you tried a Protein shake made with soy vs made with whey? That would include your greek yogurt. From what my nutritionist says it's not that we'll never be able to have milk based products again, it's just for some reason, the reaction from the stomach is an intolerance to lactaid. So lactaid free milk, soy milk, almond milk...all with no sugar added are better choices. Best bet would be to call your nutritionist or bariatric center for some suggestions. Hope your stomach feels better soon! -
Ahh A Great Dinner!
LosingItForMe2011 replied to dstollery's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
DS - my surgeon and nutritionist allow mashed potatoes but, only if I'm meeting my Protein goal of 60-70 grams per day. My surgeon up'd my protein from 50-60 to 60-70 to help aid in healing up this wound site of mine. I'm having a hard time getting in all the protein because the shakes are starting to turn my stomach or I should said I just can't drink more than one a day without feeling like gacking. It's a head game on that, that I know but, I do manage to get at least one 25 grams of Protein shake in a day. Anyway, I do agree though that it's really odd how each bariatric center/surgeon/nutritionist have different rules to follow and different lengths of time for each stage. -
2010 Lapband Removed, 7/11/12 Rny Completed...
LosingItForMe2011 posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi Folks I wasn't sure how to start this thread but, I wanted to let folks know who are going for a revision that even though the lapband isn't in right now, it's still considered a revision if you've had a lapband before. Main reason...the flap they used to hold the band to your stomach may still be there which can cause complications with RNY surgery or cause changes to have to be considered. I asked my surgeon how things looked - I was told my liver adhered to my stomach so she had to partial unstick it from each other so she could do the RNY. Then the flap was still in place on my stomach so she had to undo that or give me a bigger pouch. She undid it but, I still have to have a slightly bigger pouch than someone who hasn't had either surgeries before because there was scarring on my stomach and she wanted to make sure she could close the staples. Because of all this "extra" work I have more bruising than usual and I have to have a drain in longer than usual. I have to say the drain doesn't hurt but, it is...well....yucky to have to tote around. I have to empty it 4 times a day and change the bandage where it goes into my abdominal wall or it will leak. It has leaked because the gauze got to wet with the fluids coming out. the tape stuff holding it all together is a pip to get off and reapply but, I"m doing it. I'm really bruised up on my left side, that side most folks complain about because that is the incision most of the work is done from so a lot of bruising does happen. Lots of Heprin shots too which thins your blood so the heprin will cause brusing to happen more easily as well. Other than those two things I'm doing ok. Lots of gurgling going on in my intestines to say the least and sometimes they get a bit crampy but, it passes. Water has to go down slowly and I have to make sure there are no air bubbles becasue I found the bubbles make the sip of water hurt in my pouch. I'm able to get a shake down so I've had at least 25 grams today so far...I'l have to work on another shake in a bit just to try to get to 50 if I can for now. I do feel as if my stomach wants to hick-up which gets a tad uncomfortable until I can calm them down. I've slept alot the past few days but, that's to be expected and I did walk quite often while in the hospital because I knew it was better for me. I'm excited about my new begining but, scared too. I've done so much research, I've been to meetings and had conversations with my surgeon, therapist, nutritionist, read books, did online work etc. So although I'm scared because, heck, I've tried to lose weight with every diet under the sun including the lapband and still here I am with yet another surgery. My surgeon states she's never seen it not work so that made me feel better plus I've taken the necessary steps in finding my own "food" issue therapist and will continue to see her thought recovery and after. She keeps me thinking I'm not worried about losing a friend in food....I'm more concerned that I have the tools in place to replace it and I believe I do. What's really great is I have total support from my 22 year old son and my wonderful husband. THAT is a big thing and the best. The hours after my surgery my husband was with me and said "welcome to the beginning of your new life, love" ~~Thank you John, I love you very much! So I'm here with you all, learning and helping each other and I very much appreciate a website/forum available to come to. Anyone considering the revision, It sounds scary but, I can only tell you it's been ok so far for me. Was I scared....HECK YES! All things should be considered prior to having the surgery! I'm excited......I'm going to do this.........why....because this time........I'm LosingItForMe -

I'm not allowed veggies yet. I can have mashed potatoes IF I manage to get all my Protein in first. Sounds like a great dinner though
