    Gas Pains

It could be gas then but, the best bet would be to call your surgeon and let him/her know. I had to do that myself and found out I had an infection in my left side incision site. Not saying you have an infection but, what I'm saying it's it's always best to call your doc and give them a heads up. They'll have a better idea what it is that is causing you discomfort/pain. Good luck!
  2. It's more dependent on your insurance than anything. Give them a call and ask them if they have any "special" requirements before approving RNY surgery. Some insurance require 6 months of Medically followed weight loss, others 3 months. Some it doesn't matter but, they want to see co-mobidities etc, which you've already mentioned you have. You're insurance should be able to give you a hand with that though so you'll know for sure. Your bariatric center should also be able to help you since they are used to dealing with insurance companies they already know "most" of the requirements of the insurances out there. I say "most" mainly because each plan and have differences from the norm depending on employer or school etc. Good luck!

    Gas Pains

Is the pain around the incision site? It's common for there to be pain in that site because they use it more to move the liver out of the way to reach the stomach and per my surgeon, they use that site for the stapling inside as well. It's used quite a bit and there is a lot of bruising in that area. That combined with the gas can make it tought.

    40's New Beginnings

I'm 48 and had my surgery July 11. I've lost 35 pounds total with about 18-20 being post op. I'm very scared that this won't work or that it's going to stop working. The best any of us can do is keep trying, eating correctly and exercising and it will come off. Stalls are expected but, eventually the scale will move. We have each other to keep up the encouragement.

Have To Crush All My Meds.

I have to take blood pressure meds and GERD medicine but, the doctor and nurses told me I could cut them in forths to take them. I've been doing that and I've been fine. I bet the choco syrup works great though.

So Im Home From The Hospital...without My Rny! :(

Wow that's terrible but, you know it's good that your bloodwork was checked. Best for you to be at the correct levels on all count so you can heal properly after the surgery.

    Drinking

depends on the time of day for me as well. In the morning it's as if I have to wake my stomach up so I have to be very careful how much I take in and how fast. As the afternoon comes around and I've eaten, I'm able to take a couple sips together of cold Water and then wait a minute and be able to take more. It's so tricky....yesterday I did that and then by mistake took a good size sip and could feel it in my esophogus for a short time. Had to wait for it to go down.

    Still Cant Eat

If you're not tolerating clear liquids either that doesn't sound good. What about differences in temperature...warm vs cold fluids? Definitely call your bariatric center/nutritionist. They may have some tricks of the trade to help you. I know for me some things just aren't going to go down. I have to psych myself up to get a protein shake down. I can't tolerate scrambled eggs even after chewing well because I got sick on them a few days back. Just the smell of them turns me off. But you should be able to eat pureed foods by now.

    New Here

Hi Elizabeth, My surgery was 7/11 and I've lost about 20 pounds since my surgery (approx 5 weeks). I'm thrilled with the 20 pounds because I know without this surgery there is no way I would have lost 5 let alone 20. All the research I've done, Reading I've done, Websites I've visited have shown me that every person's journey is their own. BELIEVE ME I have to keep myself in check as well. It's so easy to compare journeys but, that only puts unnecessary pressure on ourselves. Sounds like you're eating right and exercising so it's going to come off...your body is adjusting right now but, the scale will move. As my surgeon said she's never seen this surgery not work if folks follow the rules. Heck ya, I think we all want the weight off NOW...but, it won't happen that way. It's a life long journey even after hitting your own goal. We will always be a work in progress even after hitting goal. Congrats on great weightloss! Celebrate it!

1 Month Post Op And Not Losing:-(

Only lost 22? I think you're putting too much pressure on yourself! You've done fantastic 22 pounds girl...that's two 10 pound sacks of potatoes and 2 boxes of butter. think about that.....we're not even allowed to carry that much weight one month post op. Sometimes we have to put things in perspective in order to see it...so picture those items. Keep exercising and eating the proper amount of Protein and the scale will move. Our bodies can be stubborn at times and with less cals going in and more exercise happening, it could be holding onto the weight for a bit. We're all going to run into stalls but, for how long have you stalled? If its only been a few days or even 1 week...if so it will move. How often are you stepping on the scale? You've been through enough with the surgery and all......give yourself a break and try not to be so hard on yourself. BELIEVE ME I know it's easier said than done.....we all do a great job beating ourselves up (heck I'm better at it than any Ultimate Fighting Champion) but what we really need to do and love and accept ourselves. We made a great decision to get healthy and it's happening but, everyone has a different pace and our bodies definitely let us know it. It's going to come off, 22 pounds is fantastic for one month!

    Nasal Gastric Tube ?

Hmmm i've had an NG tube before but, that was when my lapband came out. I didn't have one with gastric bypass. Any idea why they say you'll need one? Are you sure it's not a drainage tube/bulb that was mentioned?

    Help

It is possible that as much as you mushed the tilapia that you ate a little faster than your pouch was ready for. Happened to me yesterday with scrambled eggs. I've been able to eat them with no issues but, yesterday I barely got half in when I just knew something wasn't right. I thought I chewed well because I'm so afraid to get sick and I didn't eat what I normally can and sure enough....my pouch had enough and up it came. First time that's happened for me since surgery and I really don't want to do that again. I won't be eating scrambled eggs anytime soon either LOL. Hope you're feeling better. They did mention that pappaya emzines (spelling?) help with digestion. GNC sells them in chewable tablet form.

    Am I Crazy?

Yuppers...I"m there with ya. I think it's because we've tried EVERYTHING before we had the surgery. Everything worked for a while but, then failed so it's natural to think this will too. But I have faith in my surgeon who told me....She's never seen it fail for anyone who followed the rules. So I'll continue to follow the rules and pray the weight comes off. I"m a slow loser, always have been so it won't surprise me to see the scale stay the same for a while but, I know it's going to move eventually.

    One Piece Of Advice?

Everything above I totally agree with as well as experiment and try LOTS of Protein powders/shakes and other items you'll be able to eat after your surgery. Make sure you have a few options in shakes because your tastebuds change and shakes can be a Godsend in reaching your protein levels. Make sure your surgeon gives you a list of acceptable foods and the stages to eat them in etc. As mentioned everyone is different...don't compare yourself to others and their progress because all of our journeys are very different. It's not a race, it's a life time journey...journey of your own
