Just Got Home

If it's the incision on the left side that is the incision they use the most during your surgery. They use it to hold or retract back your liver so they can see your stomach. My surgeon said it's also the one they use to go in with the stapler to staple everything inside. It's the most used incision site so lots of bruising. After a few weeks it should feel better. If by any chance it becomes red and hot, call your surgeon. It happened to me and I ended up having to have it looked at and taken care of because an infection set in. Doctor said about 10% of patients get an infection there. Not all patients so I'm sure you'll be fine and feeling much better after a week or two -
YUP I agree with DLC and the rest. Call your surgeon, better safe than sorry. I called mine because of an issue I thought was nothing but, irritating and now I'm on an antibiotic. Glad I made the call.

Being Tested For C. Diff. (Clostridium Difficile) Ugh!
LosingItForMe2011 replied to LosingItForMe2011's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you everyone. The test came back positive so I'm now on yet another antibiotic. Weird how an antibiotic caused it and now I have to take another one to fix it. Just have to be extra careful so no one else around me catches it. So looking forward to when this is over, just praying all these antibiotics don't cause yet another issue (My gal friends know what I mean LOL) Anywho...thanks for all the well wishes. This sure has been a ride but, I know I'll look back at it all and be thankful. -

Being Tested For C. Diff. (Clostridium Difficile) Ugh!
LosingItForMe2011 replied to LosingItForMe2011's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello #4, Well it happens from strong antibiotics or you can get it from someone else who has it. For me I was on heavy antibiotics so it wiped out my natural balance in my intestines/bowels. The worse part is I'm not contagious if I have it so I have to be extremely careful so no one else in my family gets it. Craziness! The antibiotic caused it and get this...what heals it is yet another antibiotic. It can cause bigger issues if it's left too long to fester so if I do have it, I'm sure hoping we caught it early enough to not cause colitis or other issues. I had to look this up because naturally the surgeon only mentioned it didn't explain it all. I'm sure she will once we know for sure. It's just not pleasant. It causes cramps or pain in the abdomin but, my period is now 8 weeks late as well so I thought at first that was part of it too. Hoping to hear soon. I think I threw the woman off in the lab. She gave me the sample cup, toilet guard, baggie and told me to put the date and time I did the sample. Then bring it back to her and they'll test it. I think she thought I was going home. Heck...didn't take long to give the sample. TMI I know but, that's how sick I'm feeling with this right now. Yuck! Besides if they have to culture it for 3 days I didn't want to wait yet another day. Thank you for your support. I appreciate it. I keep saying....this will all be worth it. It's for the best....as I squeeze my cheeks and pray to the porcelain Gods LOL -

Never Feel Hungry Post Surgery
LosingItForMe2011 replied to Roman1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
DL What a great idea on the Protein powder and a pinch here or there. Never thought of that and will be trying that myself. Roman...I had my surgery 7/11 and still don't feel hungry. I have to remind myself to eat as well. I try to drink one shake a day mainly because it's 25 grams of protein in liquid form so easier to get down. I do admit though that I sometimes gag at the thought of drinking it so I have to doctor them up a bit. I use sf flavorings and different combos on them to do that and get through them. I've had a slight tummy or intestinal ache the past few days so thinking I may be becoming lactose intolerant I switched tried a soy based shake today. Taste is different for sure but, again with some doctoring up it helps. Some of the things I use to change the flavors: Add Torani sugar free syrups, cocoa powder or capella sugar free/calorie free drops. It's worked so far...hope some of this info helps. I for one can tell you protein is very important. I had an infection in one of my incision sites. After the surgeon looked at it and took care of things she upped my protein intake from 50-60 grams to 70-80. I have to tell you the healing started working alot faster once the protein was upped. So I know that goes for our insides too. Make sure to get it in! -
To Scale Or Not To Sclae?
LosingItForMe2011 replied to rpil003's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I weigh daily but, i also keep in mind that the scale will go up and down so I don't beat myself up if it goes up a pound. When I do see it goes up I make sure to really watch what I'm doing to get it back down and keep going in the right direction. -

LosingItForMe2011 replied to got2bethin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm having the same issues but, thought that maybe I was becoming lactose intolerant. So today I tried Soy instead and still have the same issue. What I'm wondering is .....does anyone else have light cramping in the lower ab region...almost like your period is coming but, it's your intestines? I thought it was the antibiotics I was on but I've been off those for about 1.5 weeks now I beleive. I'm just about afraid to leave my house because I'm afraid I won't reach a bathroom in time. Just yesterday I even brought extra clothes with me just in case -
Emergency Room :(
LosingItForMe2011 replied to jessamarie24's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc put me on an anacid perscription when I left the hospital. I believe she does that on a regular basis for at least 6 months for patients because they want to make sure an ulcer doesn't start up while healing. I hope you're feeling better and the meds help! -
I Feel Like Im Preparing To Die
LosingItForMe2011 replied to jadeharper's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No surgery should be taken lightly so if it makes you feel better to have things in order there isn't any harm in that. I had it all set myself...years ago did the will so that was set, I made sure to complete a healthcare proxy and told my husband how I felt about things. I wrote both my husband and son letters when I had my lapband surgery back in 2006 so didn't feel I needed to do that again this time but, I did talk to them both. I trusted my surgeon which was a big help. I asked all my questions etc. I was nervous about it all anyway because of course there are complications that can happen. Nope....no harm in being prepared -
Must be dehydration. I hope you're doing better. Sending well wishes your way Tank!

Day 4 Post-Op; Misery.
LosingItForMe2011 replied to punk.rock.mama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some folks sayd GasX helps and others recommend walking it out of your system. I can't say I've had the gas pain...I have been bloated by it and walking helped with that but, I wasn't having pain. I hope it goes away for you soon. -
Dry Mouth And Throat
LosingItForMe2011 replied to kiwiladydee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't get 64 ounces in but, my nutritionist says the fluids in my shakes, milk, popsicles etc all counts. I probably get about 50 in each day....for me its one of the hardest parts to do. -
Surgery Tomorrow!
LosingItForMe2011 replied to jess53772's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Welcome Jess and congrats on surgery tomorrow. Everyone loses weight differently and at their own pace so try not to worry about it so much and concentrate on what your doctor/bariatric center has taught you. They'll supply you with the info you need when you are released from the hospital and let you know what you can and can't eat until your next visit. The best thing is to concentrate on the healing aspect of the surgery and getting your fluids & proteins in. Good luck tomorrow and let us know how you're doing -
Dry Mouth And Throat
LosingItForMe2011 replied to kiwiladydee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you getting enough fluids in each day?If you are...how about.....where you live is it really hot and so the A/C is constantly running? A/Cs take humidity out of the air so that could be part of it as well. -
Are Men As A Rule A$@es Or Are They Just Stupid?
LosingItForMe2011 replied to Bert_n_ernie's topic in The Gals' Room
I think for me I went into this realizing that truly it's only ME that has to change how I'm eating. It's my journey not my husband's and not my son's. I knew they'd bring stuff into the house that I couldn't eat. Heck after surgery it takes quite a few weeks/months before we can have a full "healthy" menu. I sure do miss crunchy stuff because they were my downfall...and right now...I'm with Wps2, popcorn is a tough one. I love popcorn, must plain popcorn. It's healthy but, it's a no go for me right now and I know it. So when it's being eaten in the house it's difficult and man you can hear every single crunch and I swear the crunch noise is louder. LOL But...I have to remind myself that I chose this path my guys didn't. I guess it does help though that they are also very caring in that, they will ask me if there is something they can do for me or get me often and they make sure I'm ok. They don't think twice about having their popcorn, take out food etc but, they do need to eat. Again I just remind myself that I chose this and I'm doing this for me.....it will benefit them in the long run but, still this choice was for me and my own benefit first. Keep that in mind the next time your spouse or family is eating something you can't. Believe me it's hard certain days...especially if after the popcorn, some other snack is then picked up. Then I start thinking...My God...I used to do that and no wonder why I gained weight and then I'm proud of myself for taking this step. AS much as I'd like them eating healthier too, THEY lift the food to their mouths not me. I don't bring the stuff in so it's their choice. I love em anyway. Continue with your own journey, don't let the comments get to you...let it roll because when it's no longer funny to them, its not worth saying. Easier said then done sometimes I know....but you can do it. Half this losing weight battle is putting things in perspective for yourself and keeping positive. Let em have the ribs, popcorn, candy.....while you lose weight and get healthy, happy and more fit -
Way to go David! Pants on the ground, pants on the ground, loosin' weight dude with his pants on the ground. hee hee. Hmm thinking maybe some suspenders are needed until you buy yourself some new work pants? You don't want to be giving your patients heart flutters seeing your new butt!

What Are You "eating"
LosingItForMe2011 replied to irshangel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh it's definitely harder when the menu is limited. I'm looking forward to having options myself. Keep up the good work irshangel! You can do it! -
Heck, I didn't leave the house for a week when I got home. You have a bunch of healing to do and just that trip to the grocery store and if you carried groceries into the house...you probably burned more calories than you're taking in. Short walks is about it for a while, while you're healing. My doc didn't give permission for longer walks/exercise until 3 weeks out when she knew I was taking in enough protein and fluids.

What Are You "eating"
LosingItForMe2011 replied to irshangel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is difficult to get that "chew" at 2 weeks out. I was only allowed liquids plus greek yogurt, scrambled egg whites or cottage cheese that you could actually chew to liquid form before swallowing. Not many food choice items during this stage. I'm now in Stage 4 where I can have solid Proteins but, still no carbs, fruit or veggies. Chewing chicken to liquid form takes some time for sure. I am allowed mash potatoes or mashed sweet potato but, only if I meet my Protein requirements for the day first. Thats my only carb allowed right now.
