I lost about 12 before my surgery but substituting 1 meal a day with a Protein shake and the other meals were protein based...kinda like Atkins but, without the high fat meats. I had eggs in the morning, a shake for lunch and then a smaller portion at dinner but, ate the protein first. Kinda like we have to do after surgery really. If I felt I needed a snack I had lowfat cheese sticks, a yogurt or an apple or cutie orange.

Pre-Op Laxative
LosingItForMe2011 replied to Maggie0557's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon didn't require it only to lose weight before the surgery. I wasn't even required a liquid diet before hand. When I asked about it in the office the PA told me she was trying to work on that with the surgeons so that patients would be on liquid diets before surgery. She felt it helped things be more "clean" for the surgery. I actually took it upon myself to go on a liquid diet for the 3 days prior. I figured it would be better colon/intestinal wise if I did but, it wasn't required. -
wahooo congrats!

Getting Dlcoggin To Post A Pic
LosingItForMe2011 replied to nomorefat's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Actually I believe him when he says he wasn't in many pictures and from what I've read DL is working on a blog and pictures for that so I can understand wanting a picture without noise around it. I for one haven't been in many pictures either. Always took them so I wouldn't have to be in them. Still hate having my picture taken. Fortunately I knew I was going to wonder about before pictures so asked hubby to take them for me. He did, I looked at the once and BLECK I'm not posting those dang things until I lose more weight. So DL....when you're ready...we're ready You've been such a help and inspiration for many and so it will be great to put a face to the screenname. -
Ummm in dealing with a therapist who specializes in self image and weight issues pre and post op...she has taught me a few things. For me things were black and white....I was on a diet...I was all in and if I did something off plan, I considered it a full fail. She taught me that life isn't black and white...there is some grey in there and I need to cut myself some slack. Basically if I was on a diet and had one piece of chocolate to not mock, or ridicule myself for it and to stop beating myself up. Learn from it, it was actually in moderation so I did no wrong and move on. taking a little nerd or touch of frosting isn't the end of a good run on eating right...just think of prior to eating right what you would have done and be proud of yourself for ONLY taking such a small amount!

Congrats! It will be here sooner than you realize!

Back On Antibiotics - Bleck!
LosingItForMe2011 replied to LosingItForMe2011's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Well this time around the doc has me on florastor (spelling) as well in hopes to get the good bacteria back in check. Weirdest thing though.....I read all the stickers on the antibiotic bottle (cripe there are 5 of them not including the label) and one of them says May Cause Diarrhea during treatment. UMMM HELLO I'm trying to get rid of that not make more of it LOL When it comes down to it....in my humble opinion....nothing is TMI in here. Anything any of us is going through can help someone else. Jen in SoCal...antibiotics caused the whole issue in the first place for me. The initial antibiotics were for an incision infection. Thanks everyone.....I'm sure I'll have the...ummm...errrrrr........oh heck just say...poops under control soon. hahaha -
A Little Help Please.

You didn't mention how long this stall has been. My nutritionist said it's not a stall until you've hit 3 weeks. Otherwise keep doing what you're doing if you're following your docs plan and the scale will move. -

Water Intake Question
LosingItForMe2011 replied to NurseTAB's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You'll have restriction...clear liquids is very different from mushies and full foods. Some folks have a lot of restriction at the beginning even with just liquids but, others don't. When you get to move onto thicker foods you'll feel it. There are some days I can drink fluids quickly and other days I can feel it sitting there and I'm 2 months out. All depends on the day, how much Fluid I had the day before and well...if I'm stressed I can't drink as much nor eat. -
I had water, nonfat milk, SF Koolaid, sf popsicles, SF ice tea, anything liquid that wouldn't upset my stomach and was SF/Nonfat

If you're not eating enough you will stall as well. Are you logging your food? If not start doing that. Also.....have you seen your nutritionist? They can give lots of tips of what you can do and can help figure out if you're eating enough or too much.

LosingItForMe2011 replied to krystacoyle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've heard that it is common because we store hormones and other chemicals in our fat. As we lose it some of that is released into our systems. Good for you for seeing your PCP to figure it out -
Well....to me why would your doctor be upset...you've lost 96 pounds so far that's great no matter what size you are. Are you drinking all your Water? Are you logging all of your foods? Are you taking in too many carbs? You're exercising but, do you change up your routine?

Can't Have Surgery :(
LosingItForMe2011 replied to kimpossible67's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Never, ever give up on something you want and know will be good for you! Definitely find a center that will work with you. Even then...if they say no...then go another route. Find a therapist that deals with eating issues and work with them. Let them know the truth..that you were told no and the reason why. Then work on it with the therapist and that therapist can then let the bariatric group know her/his opinion. -

Show Of Hands (Part 2)
LosingItForMe2011 replied to Tank's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Meatloaf, with mashed potatoes and fat free gravy and green Beans. I can bet it would be good with mashed califlower when a chef puts the magic touch of spices in it I sure would try it. OH I got an idea too....you know those smoothies in a pouch in the freezer. Well how about Protein shakes with added fruit or other bits you can blend -
My doc doesn't make me crush mine. I can cut them into quarters and take them. Depends on the size of the pill. Try calling your doc and ask if you have to crush it or can you make them small bits instead.

LosingItForMe2011 replied to jknap01's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh believe me, I was there myself and even now after having to have shakes for so long...I find them hard to get down some days. Are you able to have anything more mixed into them? Like a piece of frozen banana blended or fruit. It would help fill you. Although......you're surgery really is right around the corner! Happy thoughts and determination will get ya there -
Hi bam...are you logging your food? Are you exercising? When you do eat...are you choosing foods that will keep you full longer vs something liquidy, salads or Soups? Always the best bet....call your nutritionist. They have lots of ideas on what can be done. I know mine is very helpful and has lots of suggestions for any food situation.

LosingItForMe2011 replied to jknap01's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi jknap....are you on strictly liquids? What type of liquids...anything that can be sipped through a straw like smoothies or protein shakes only? There are lots of ways to "spruce" up shakes that would help be more filling if you're allowed adding stuff. -
