    ***slave To The Scale***

I step on the scale daily as well but, I do it keeping in mind I KNOW there will be fluctuations up and down by anywhere between 1 and 3 pounds. It all depends how much your drank or what you ate the day before. I keep in mind that I don't move myself down in weight until I've seen that weight on the scale for several days stay the same or go below it. It's all a head game with the scale. Just know that if you're following the diet and exercise plan your doc recommends it will come off For me it keeps me in check...if it goes up, even knowing it won't stay...I will be extra sure to take in all my Water and to watch my Protein. If it stays up....cut back the carbs and/or rev up the exercise and it gets back to where it was.
  2. My surgeon and nutritionist said the liquid in my shake counts towards my 64 oz for the day. If I drink milk..that counts too.

    Coffee Drinkers

Caffeine can cause dehydration and irritate the stomach. That's why my surgeon said no coffee at all the first 5 weeks and now I can have decaf only.

    Left Side & Back Pain

I had the same pain and it eventually goes away. Sometimes it took me by surprise but, then it would go away just as fast. Lots of healing being done in there and it takes a good 6-8 weeks to heal all the incision/cut sites inside and out.

    More Blood Work?

I had bloodwork a few days before my pre-op as well. Sometimes insurance requires it I think. Sometimes they just want to make sure you're levels are ok and if not they'll have you start your vitamins before surgery. That's what happened for me...build up the vitamins before the surgery because after surgery for me anyway, I was told no vitamins until my first post op visit and nutrition visit.

    Still Having Pain

everyone definitely is different and pain tolerance levels are also different. I can say my pain lasted 3 weeks but, I had an infection in one of my incisions which caused it to last longer in that area. As long as your incisions aren't red, hot and puffy it's probably pain for regular reasons.....they sure move alot in those incisions when doing our surgery. The left side incision that is a little bigger than the others will take longer to feel better. If you're really uncomfortable...no harm and having the doc take a peek

    Is This Dumping?

I don't think that was dumping. Syntrax is below the sugar and fat level maxes. I have them myself. You've just had surgery and you're not healed. I know for me, the first few weeks I took barely anything in. My stomach was too irritated from all the work that was done. I'm thinking it's the gas still in your system and you need to sip slower. Also keep in mind...the syntrax fruit Protein drinks are made from whey. There is a possibility that you are lactose intollerant after the surgery. Folks can have that happen even if they never had a lactaid problem before. Try a soy based Protein shake instead for a bit to see if it helps. Definitely let your surgeon know though what's happening. You want to make sure you get fluids in. Mine told me that if protein wasn't sitting right for the first few weeks to at least get Fluid in so I don't become dehydrated. Let them know what's going on for sure to be on the safe side.

Pre-Op Liquid Diet - Cant Stomach This! :(

Hi Sharon....so sorry you're having a hard time. Every doctor's requirements seem to be different. Mine didn't even require a pre-op diet other than to lose 10% prior to surgery. Basically she told me to try to lose because it would shrink my liver making it easier and safer for surgery. I know a few folks here did have to go on a two week liquid diet such as you...hopefully they'll be able to help with input. Just know its not forever and you're surgery will be here before you know it. Hugs

    Pain Meds

I bought mine at CVS as well. Years ago Tylenol had a chewable mint tablets and man they worked great! But for some reason they stopped making them. I wish they'd bring them back! CVS though does sell their own brand of liquid acetophemine (spelling?)

    The Easy Way.......

You tell them the truth....you're eating healthier foods and in smaller portions, drinking plenty of Water and exercising. They don't need to know about surgery unless you feel you want them to. THIS RNY is far, far, away from any diet I've ever been on. It's taken pre-mental work, pre-research, pre-testing etc and now all the post stuff...post mental stuff, post appointments, blood work, Vitamins etc. Far from easy! We're just fortunate in that we don't feel the hunger that we did prior to the surgery. For a while anyway but, even that will come back but, hopefully we have all the good eating habits we need by then

    Dumping Syndrome

Bert_n_ernie...sure sounds like Lactose intolerance. Its not uncommon for RNY patients to become lactose intolerant for a time after surgery. Most shakes are made from whey but, switching to one made from soy and mixing it with Water not milk should help you. I believe you can be tested for it or basically do a self test. Don't have any dairy for a couple days.....if it stops then that's probably your issue. If it doesn't then it's something else and definitely call your surgeon about it. Nutritionist can help too.
  17. Amazing how different each hospital is. The first day I had nothing but, the surgery and IV, Second day in the afternoon swallow test...had to wait in that radiology room for 30 minutes, back to my room and was given a medicine cup and 1 cup of ice chips and Water. Told to sip 1 medicine cup an hour. Later on nurse ordered me liquid dinner....SF Jello, chicken broth, tea, carnation instant Breakfast with skim milk. Next morning same stuff and out the door. I don't understand why they'd just give you water then have you go home. How long were you in the hospital? I sure hope you're doing ok.
  18. Nice article. I think technology helps quite a bit. Heck we're here and it's one of the most supportive and knowledge heavy places to go besides you're own surgeon's office of course. How big a role does technology play in your weight loss journey? Well when I'm diligent in tracking my food, I do take in my Protein better. Without technology I wouldn't have met YOU online and gathered lots of great information and thankfully to technology Alex gave us this beautiful site to use. Do you see that role increasing? Decreasing? Why? More than likely increasing because the world just becomes more and more tech savy. A wealth of information is at our fingertips and as those fingertips revolve and want more technology...it's provided or invented I like the idea of receiving text messages to remind me to eat, drink or exercise. How do I sigh up?

    One Day Post Op

If you haven't drank anything since 9/23 that's bad. You're probably dehydrated and that won't help with the pain.
  21. LosingItForMe2011

    Please Helppppppp

Definitely no Naproxin. I used to use it for migraines but, the surgeons said for sure no NSAIDs and Naproxin is one.
