  1. Hi everyone I was banded on Monday Nov 19 and subsequently discharged on Tuesday. My doctor told me that I could pretty much start back on the same diet I was on for the week before surgery (high Protein low fiber) So I'm eating oatmeal, mashed potatoes, etc. I was afraid to start eating those things because of what I've read here - but I figured he "saw" what he was working with and only HE knows how he positioned my band... Now onto my problem ... If not for the pain I'm having at my port site (which is about 3 inches above my belly button) and at one of my insicions on the left .. I don't feel any different. I got up a few hours after surgery and started walking so that the gas would be tolerable - and it has been, so far. I am able to drink normally (I expected to only be able to have tiny tiny sips) and I honestly haven't been "super chewing" my food and have not had any issues. I'm almost starting to think that they cut me up and didn't put anything in there :paranoid ... I mean shouldn't I feel SOMETHING ?? The only thing I am doing is limiting the amount I eat - and stopping when I'm full ...

    Do you trust your scales?

For me, it depends on WHERE I stand on the scale. I can weigh myself 5 times and get different readings all 5 times !

What's Good to Eat after the Post-Op Diet?

THANK YOU !! I was banded on 11/19 and have been struggling with what to eat .. I've had a won-ton soup from the chinese place EVERY DAY ... Starting today - I will try YOUR way
  4. Thanks Transformer I'm still pretty swollen and I *know* I have no restriction .. but I read stories where recently banded folks were having issues swallowing/gulping, etc ... and I don't feel ANY different - I'm not sure that's "normal" ..
  5. I'm on my pre-op diet and my surgery is scheduled for Monday Nov 19, however I'm struggling with when to eat. I will have a good Breakfast (oatmeal, 1 egg, glass of milk) and that will hold me (suprisingly) to the point that I forget about lunch. Then when I realize I'm hungry .. I'm STARVING (which COULD cause me to over-eat) So far this week my days have gone as follows : I wake up at 6am Breakfast (7:30am) - every morning at work mid morning snack - skipped because I'm not hungry Lunch - if I remember at 11ish I'll have a slimfast shake. Afternoon snack - nothing because I'm driving home - I'm STARVING dinner (3/4pm) - Soup, or whatever Bedtime snack (6/7pm) - Jello pudding I go to bed at 10:30/11pm I should be getting in 1200 calories - but I'm barely getting in 900. My question is should I force myself to eat every couple of hours ? Or just when I'm hungry ?:help:

Am I supposed to eat even if not hungry ??

Oh one more thing .. I drink a minimum of 4 liters of water/day (aka 16 glasses)
  7. I'm set to be banded on Nov 19 and I'm nervous about the 'mental' changes that I will have to make. I'm wondering how one gets to the point where they don't NEED to eat everything on their plate - in other words, I often find that I am no longer hungry, but keep eating because it tastes good or because I don't want to 'leave' any. I'm worried that I won't be able to 'stop' myself .. and I'm hoping that THAT is where the band will step in and make me feel "SO FULL" that I won't want to finish. Does putting less food on your plate help? How do you get past the "memory" that even though there is a "serving" on your plate - there is still "more" on the stove ?

    Recovery Time//Time Off From Work

My surgery is scheduled for Nov 19 (Monday) and I'm taking 2 weeks off and returning to work on Dec 3 (Monday). I had planned on coming back to work on the 26th - but figured it wouldn't hurt to give myself an additional week
  9. I was getting worried since my surgery is in a week and a half (Nov 19) and my doc's office had just sent in my paperwork to Aetna last week... I got the call this afternoon that I have been approved  I seriously thought I was going to have to fight and appeal and fight some more and not have surgery until next year. I told the nurse that I'm a little offended that they approved me so fast - since it technically means that I'm SO fat that they had no excuse or "loophole" that would allow them to reject me I'm excited and nervous about the surgery

How do you get used to 'leaving food behind' ?

I think PB means "P"roductive "B"urping - in other words when you burp a little bit of food comes up ... at least that's what I *hope* it means ...

I just wanted to thank all of you for replying. Those who are in the same boat as me and those who have navigated these waters for sharing their experience !!

    NOV surgerys??

November 19th for me - and I'm nervous and excited at the same time.

    Nervous, very nervous....

OH girl .. I know EXACTLY how you feel. I'm set to be banded on Nov 19 and after more than 6months "waiting" - I thought I would have been past the whole "what about not being able to EVER eat this or that again" thing ... I think you EVENTUALLY get back to eating 'anything' (some folks have trouble with certain foods - and in that case, you won't WANT the food, anyway after you've had trouble with it) I wake up thinking about my next meal - and even when I'm eating I'm thinking about what my next meal will be - I am WITH you on the whole 'loving food' and "missing food" thing ...

Do you tell people you're banded?

I've been working towards my surgery date (I have known since May that my surgery would be in November) - and just started telling people this week. I had to tell my boss because I was requesting the time off work (and we're pretty "close") - I explained to her that it wasn't a "secret" but that it's not something I'm broadcasting, either. I have since told 3 of the 5 members of my team. The other 2 will find out next week. It's not something I'm "ashamed" of - but I also don't feel that I need to just go out and tell everyone and their mother. If asked, I will tell - but I won't be advertising.

    Water while excersizing ..

Hi Everyone ! I'm new to this forum, and this is my first post. I have done a lot of reading here as I prepare for my surgery (scheduled for Nov). I'm not sure if this should be posted in the food forum or the excersize forum .. but here goes... I have a really stupid question: I know you're only supposed to have small amounts of liquid (or anything for that matter) - but what happens when you're excersizing and REALLY thirsty ? Can you 'gulp' down a 24 oz bottle of Water ? How do you keep from being dehydrated ?
  17. Mrs SmartyPants

    Water while excersizing ..

Thanks for the replies. So, you can have an entire bottle of Water (24 oz) as long as you drink it slowly ? I was under the impression that you could only have small amounts of liquid at a time.
